AB O UT M E I have always been fascinated with the possibilities of architecture to touch the soul. Personally, I love the works of Peter Zumthor, Renzo Piano, Peter Stutchbury, Wang Shu, Sou Fujimoto and Alejandro Aravena to name a few. The many Malaysian architects that I admire includes Sek San, WHBC Architect, Tetawowe Atelier, and Kevin Mark Low. In a sentence, I would say that a good architecture starts from asking the right questions and finding appropriate creative solutions that are highly sensitive, honest, individual and near to everyday life.

M I C R O HO U S E A House Over a Car

Personal project Jan 2020

T H E I DE A Can open car parks be transformed into livable areas? This micro house concept grows within the boundary of a car park where the kitchen, toilet, bedroom, study and living spaces expand upwards. On the facades, sliding glass windows and vertical screens control the movement of air, light and water into the house.

L I G H T B OX A Celebration of Natural Light

Personal project Dec 2019

T H E I DE A This idea of a space for prayer is all about celebrating natural light, air & water to create a sense of inner peace. The extruded arches bring in light while providing shade and protection from the sun and rain. The small openings on the roof allow beams of light rays into the space as a way to celebrate natural light.

F O R E S T S H E LT E R A shelter for two in the forest

Personal project Dec 2019

T H E I DE A How much space do we really need to live? This idea of a small shelter in the forest for two is all about composing our everyday needs to relax, meditate, exercise, play, work, study, entertain, socialise, farm, cook, eat, cleanse & sleep into a small but effective space. From the front, the shelter is walled up for privacy where a narrow stair marks the entrance. While at the back, the shelter opens up to the surrounding nature.

06 A R C H I T E C T UR E A N D D ESIGN FA B R I C AT I O N C E NTER for YTL Corporation in collaboration with Fab Lab Sentul Park, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

M.Arch 03-04 - Final Year Thesis Sept 2017 - July 2018 Supervised by Mr. Fairus Kholid

T H E B R I EF This project is divided into two parts. The first part of the project involves the investigation, research, development and completion of schematic design. The second part of the project involves the refinement of the design where technical and technological aspects culminate in a final design proposal.

T H E I DE A 3D printing and fabrication technology has enabled consumers to create their own products with greater speed and performance hence democratizing the manufacturing industry. Future cities will consist of large scale printing hubs where nearly all consumer products can be designed, produced and created by non-professionals and non-experts from their home computers. A shift from mass production to mass customization.

TH E PROPO SAL This thesis proposes a center in Sentul Park that provides creative workspaces for architecture and design fabrication and public spaces for fabrication exhibitions and discussions to kickstart the mass customization fabrication revolution in Malaysia. The design proposal emphasizes both sensorial and emotional experiences through the integration of bright spaces, patterns, transparency, nature and fabricated materials.

At the heart of the center is a courtyard which acts as a social glue to the various programmes around it. A bold triangular roof canopy unifies the three building blocks underneath. The proposed fabrication lab is equipped with gantry robots to allow large scale manufacturing. The site can be easily accessed by vehicles and is connected to pedestrians walkways in the park. The views from the site are scenic and green which adds high aesthetic value to the site.

07 U M W TOW E R Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

M.Arch 02 - High Rise March - July 2017 Studio Leader : Assoc. Prof. Ar. Dr. Mariam Jamaludin

T H E B R I EF Students are to design a medium rise or multi storey building of significant complexity for a corporate entity on a chosen site. The proposal should resolve various aspects of architectural concerns including client’s brief, contextual issues, site layout, efficient and flexible planning of interior space, basement parking layout, structural rationality, services requirements, selection and applications, façade design, as well as the project contribution to the urban environment. Knowledge of prevailing planning and building by-laws is also important.

T H E CH A LLEN GES Kampung Baru is a prime land situated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur with huge potentials for highrise development. As it is predominantly a malay area, the development needs to reflect the malay identity of the place. UMW Group was chosen as the client to build its first corporate tower in Kampung Baru.

TH E PROPO SAL UMW Group is a local corporate entity with diverse portfolios in the Automotive, Equipment, Manufacturing & Engineering and Oil & Gas sectors. A new corporate tower for UMW would highlight the presence of the company in the city of Kuala Lumpur. The proposal aims to create transparency and visual access into the tower at ground level. Nature and trees are integrated on the ground, the mid-level and the roof of the tower.

Various facilities such as auditorium, seminar rooms, multi-function hall, retail, showroom, gallery, foodcourt and restaurant are located at the base of the tower. The structure of the tower resembles the malay songket to highlight essence of Kampung Baru malay culture.

08 E C OLO G I C A L U R BA N I SM: T R AC I NG BA N D U N G’S D N A Bandung, Indonesia

M.Arch 01 - Urban Design Sept 2016 - Jan 2017 Studio Leader : Mr. Fairuz Reza Razali

T H E B R I EF Students are to analyse the urban issues of a chosen place in Bandung and develop urban design solutions for that place.

T H E CH A LLEN GES With a growing young population of about 1,300 inhabitants, Lingkungan Asri exemplifies the typical DNA of Bandung with roads and rivers forming the many islands of informal settlements and shops in the city. Each island functions both as dwelling and commercial spaces in creating its own ecosystem of sustainable development and living. During this age of rapid urbanization, Lingkungan Asri has grown to occupy available spaces for individual dwelling and commercial expansion leaving very few quality spaces for its community at large. This urban dilemma has caused many problems including the formation of disconnected shopfronts and backlanes, poor informal settlements and connections, and neglected rivers.

TH E PROPO SAL Ecological urbanism seeks to build correlations between each inhabitant to operate as an integrated ecosystem and increase productivity. New urban design strategies are introduced to allow the adaptation of millions of little plans cultivated by the people and not the architect. Neglected places are turned into individual spaces such as promenades, lively streets, flexible houses, connectors, parks and shops, themselves overlapping into a single whole system of the city.

Ecological urbanism provides an alternative form of urbanism, one that promote a series of flexible principles that can be adapted to the conditions of a particular place.

STRATEGY 1 Renewal of housing units

Existing houses with renewed frontages

This is a basic home shelter for either a family life or a single life. Personal needs and wants can be adapted through extensions and renovations. Each neighbourhood is arranged around a courtyard. Here one can smell the cooking of home and the sound of the neighbours. This centralized arrangement promotes harmonious community activities in support of the community spirit. The courtyard is where the earth and the sky meet to live and rest.

E LYSI U M S HO P P I N G C EN TER Meru Raya, Ipoh Perak, Malaysia

B.Sc Arch 08 March - June 2014 Studio Leader : Ar. Zaki Yusof

T H E B R I EF Students are to propose a shopping mall thet is exciting, creative and innovative as wall as cater for the needs and interests of the surrounding community.

T H E CH A LLEN GES 01 Design of malls tend to be inwardfacing & has no exterior 02 Mall needs to be spacious to accommodate the stores, but not so big that the distances could tire shoppers. 03 Organizations need to help move traffic along or create something interesting to intrigue the shopper to keep them moving. 04 The main goal is ‘to create a meaningful experience for people to walk through and enjoy and therefore want to come back and enjoy. 05 The building needs to let in light and air but not so much that it competes with display lighting.

TH E PROPO SAL A centre that offers new experiences of shopping that respond to the needs of Meru Raya’s diverse residential community. This centre will refine the identity of Meru through the creation of a unified peace of urban fabric with lush tropical landscape. It highlights the recent trends of shopping through the creation of entertainment and open air cafes. High volume central atrium opens up to generous natural lighting.

This proposed project is dedicated for children, teenagers, and families looking for all types of necessities, entertainment & food to serve as the ‘third place’ to be away from home & work. The architectural spaces range from retail spaces, outdoor cafes, a foodcourt overlooking the mountains, and multi-hall cinemas. Elysium shopping centre will be the next prime destination of Meru Raya Ipoh Perak.
