Located in the heart of Kg. Puah, Setapak, Selangor, 'Serangkai' is a community centre that serves the facilities for public use especially for the village community. Named as Serangkai is due to the three programs; social amenities, commercial, and up-skilling that unite under one roof. This project is focused to resolve social issues where the number of facilities in the area is very minimal and some are abandoned. On the grounds of this issue, Serangkai serves public spaces such as public plaza, community hall, community garden, gymnasium, training centre and retails for the community to fill their leisure time, hold events, learn or training and even run their business . In terms of architecture, the building form is designed inspired by the regional influence that mostly has pitched form of building. Serangkai also has designed to be gradually lower at the end of side in order to unite with the community houses nearby that mostly only one-storey height. And also gradually higher at the center to create the hierarchy and function as a landmark. The concept of Unity that comes from the theme of Sejahtera is aim to unite all the facilities become centralised and be the place to unite the community through the activities. Hence, the strong engagement of the community can be nurtured. The children and teenagers also can enjoy the sports activities in the sports hall. The culture of Kg Puah community is preserve by providing community garden for them to cultivate plant. The merchants also can run their business at the retail shops provided. Taking the consideration of the site, the community centre is being oriented towards north and also shaded by the ample amount of trees so that it is prevented by the direct sunlight.The building facade is mostly open in order to allow the natural ventilation flow over the building and some are covered to keep the privacy. The use of common material such as concrete and timber suit the weather condition and surrounding. The use of glulam portal frame as the construction is to support the hall exposed the aesthetic value in this centre. Greenery is inserted in the crevices of the building to create balance between architecture and nature. The harmony can be created when balance can be achieved completing the needs of the whole creature. Hence, Serangkai will be the place for the community to gather and tighten the relationship that will create the peace and tranquility. Indeed, unity is the demand of Islam so that the bonds among the community remain strong and undead. ۟ ُوا َبيْنَ أَخ ََو ْي ُك ْم ۚ َوٱتَّق ۟ ص ِل ُح َٱَّلل لَ َعلَّ ُك ْم ت ُ ْر َح ُمون ْ َ ِإ َّن َما ْٱل ُمؤْ ِمنُونَ ِإ ْخ َوة ٌ َفأ َ َّ وا “The believers are but one brotherhood, so make peace between your brothers. And be mindful of Allah so you may be shown mercy” -Surah al-Hujurat (49: 10)-
• The design form is according to the regional characteristics by maintaining the continuity with the surrounding areas.
• Provides spaces under a large continuous folding roof for events, performances, shops and play
• Perceive the cultural spirit, and give the village new look
• The building position is most condusive where direct sunlight is least intense facing North keeping spaces cool and comfortable
• Outline the continuity of the context in one form and one structure
