Get pumped about the new school year by creating your own selfie! It’s a neat way to introduce yourself to others and share what matters most.
Here’s What You’ll Need: • Scissors • Pencil • Markers or colored pencils Cut out this smartphone picture. Using your pencil, draw a design on the borders. Inside the box, draw a picture of yourself at your favorite place. You can draw your bedroom, the playground, or use your imagination to create any background! Then fill it all in with the colored pencils. On another sheet, write 3-5 sentences about yourself. What do you want others to know about you? You can share your favorite video game, talk about what you did over the summer, or tell a funny joke!

The first day of school is fun and exciting, but you may also feel a little nervous about your new teacher and making new friends. These are normal feelings to have. Everyone goes through it. Here are 3 ways you can get back into the swing of things and feel better prepared to start the new school year.
Get Organized
Read
Summertime is all about resting and having fun. When school opens again, it’s back to the books! Exercise your brain by reading every night before bed. Reading more books will help you to learn new words and improve your vocabulary which will help you do better on your tests. Have you read all the books in your house? No worries! Open up your imagination and write your own story.
Clean up every night before bed. Help your parents out with chores around the house, put up your toys, and tidy up your bedroom. You’ll wake up with a fresh start every day without having to worry about where your belongings are. When school starts back, you’ll be prepared for a new routine.
Stay positive!
No matter how you’re feeling, choose to be happy. Instead of worrying about everything that could go wrong, focus on everything that will go right! Whenever you’re feeling nervous, change your thoughts by thinking about all of the cool things you expect to learn this year and the new memories you’ll make with your friends.
Start preparing now and your new school year will go better than you ever imagined! 5

by Girl Tyler Do you know what the word self-esteem means? Well, basically it’s how you feel about yourself. We know you’re smart and awesome, but what you think about yourself is what truly matters. The WHO I AM activity is a friendly reminder of all the neat characteristics that make you the person you are. Some days will be hard and you may even feel down, but you’ll always have this as a reminder that you are a really cool kid.
Here’s what you’ll need: Paper (1 sheet) Poster board (1 piece) Glue Photo of you Markers or color pencils Using the sheet of paper, write down every word or phrase you can think of that describes you. For example, we already know you’re handsome, but are you also funny? A great drawer? Good at sports? Do you love to cook? Well, write it all down! Focus on good thoughts and positive things people have said about you. Put glue on the back of your photo and glue it to the poster board. Use the colored pencils to fill in space around the photo by writing words from your list. Ask your parent or guardian to help you hang the poster to remind yourself just how great you are – we knew it all along!

Using a Toilet Paper Roll by Girl Tyler
Snack time is a really fun part of the day. It also helps to keep you strong and full of energy between meals. Just like you, animals are on the move all day and they love snack time too! Birds love to eat seeds fruit, insects, fish, acorns, and so much more! Here’s a fun way to hang out with your birdie friends while giving them a treat using a homemade bird feeder.
Here’s what you’ll need: • Toilet paper rolls (paper towel rolls are fine too) • Peanut butter • Popsicle sticks • Bird seed • String or yarn (optional) 1. Remove any remaining paper from the toilet paper roll (Paper doesn’t taste good to humans or birds!)
Optional: Slide string or yarn through the ends of your bird feeder and tie a knot to hang it from a tree branch.
2. Use a popsicle stick to scoop up peanut butter. Spread the peanut butter all over the paper roll (A thin layer will do the job.)
Now comes the waiting — but you won’t have to wait too long. How will the birds know how to find the feeder? Birds have great eyes! They use their eyes and ears to find food and you just made their job of finding food a lot easier. Birds can spot a feeder from far away.
3. Take handful of bird seed and sprinkle them on top of the peanut butter. Do this a few times to make sure the entire paper roll is covered. 4. Voila! Your homemade bird feeder is ready to go!
Listen closely, you may even hear them chirp THANK YOU!
