Keep Cool At School
S
By Saeeda Ruffin
chool can be a little bit tough sometimes. There are a lot of rules and sometimes kids might not be on their absolute best behavior. That’s all normal. Most students don’t want to be one of “those kids”. You know, the ones who get in trouble A LOT. Well, you don’t have to be. You can do much, much better than that.
You are a young king, and you want to do your best to set positive examples for the other kids and for your community. But, what happens when you’re trying to be the best kid possible at school and things don’t go like you want them to go? You know, like when some kid acts mean to you or calls you a name, or worse? Yikes! It can be super hard to deal with that kind of stuff. Here a few tricks to help you keep your cool when you are at school:
4
Walk Like A Boss
When someone does or says something that is not the right thing, you don’t have to stand there with them. If you stay with them, you may also end up getting a penalty...even if YOU actually didn’t do anything! It’s not fair, I know, but it can happen. So, the best thing to do if people are saying or doing the wrong thing is to get away from them. Hold your head up high and walk like a boss until you are safely away.
Ask Lots of Questions
Sometimes, when kids are learning new things, they can become frustrated. Nobody likes feeling like they don’t know stuff, but instead of getting upset, put your energy into asking questions. You don’t have to pretend that you understand something just because other kids know it. Be honest and ask for help. You may even need a tutor. That is perfectly fine! It’s better to REALLY learn than to fall behind. Get help and you will be happy you did!
Be Good And Get The Reward
When you go to school, you know your family and teachers expect you to do the right thing. That means they know that you are more than capable of being respectful, listening, and following the rules — all while you are learning and having fun. You are a super star kid and everybody knows it! But, the most important thing you need to remember is that you should have good behavior for YOURSELF, not just because other people want you to be good. Super star kids will be the ones who get the cool treats. So, be good and get the rewards!

What’s Your
Game Plan For
School?
By Saeeda Ruffin
I
t’s a brand-new school year. Expect this year to be epic! You had all summer to think about the awesome things you’ll do once you’re back in school. If you’re like most boys, you’re getting excited just thinking about the new stuff that you’ll be learning. It’s going to be great! Hopefully, this school year will be totally different from last year. There will be more activities, more games, and more fun! You might need a strategy for how you’ll tackle this new school term. You want to have a winning school year, so you need a strong plan...a game plan! What is your game plan for making this school year the most amazing one ever? These tips can help you to make this school year the best that it can be:
1. Stay Focused Having recess on your mind is fine, but you need to make sure you have your schoolwork and grades on your mind too. So, make staying focused a part of your school game plan. Doing well on your schoolwork (and with your behavior) is super important. Focus, Bro!
6
2. Be A Good Friend You’re a phenomenal little guy, so making friends may be easy for you. But Bro, are you a good friend? Part of your game plan for this school year should be to be a friend that your bros can have fun with, depend on to be nice to them, and trust. That is the type of friend everyone deserves... especially you!
3. Work Hard School was kind of weird last year, but this year you may be back in the regular classroom. When you get there, you want to do all your work. Remember to do your best and don’t wait until the last minute to do your homework or work on projects. You want to do all your assignments on time – and make sure they’re really good, too. Your hard work will pay off when you get those great grades and treats!
4. Show Respect No matter who you meet at school or on the school bus, always show them respect. The people who work at your school are there because they want to help kids like you be the best person that they can be. Everyone from the lunch ladies to the janitor and the principal – they all want you to succeed and be an awesome student. Make showing them respect (and following all the rules) a big part of your game plan. If you do that, you’re sure to have a successful school year! Now, that’s what we call WINNING!
