new school year means it’s time to refresh your study habits. Are you an intense learner or prefer last-minute cramming? Aht aht! Neither one of these are healthy. The habits you create now will follow you into adulthood. The goal is to achieve a stress-free school year. A great deal of your school-related nervousness stems from how you prepare outside of the classroom. Here are 8 study habits to keep you on top of your game this school year.

4

Keep a reading journal Most students are often fooled into thinking that reading is only for classtime or to be done when pages are assigned. Wrong! Go beyond the required reading. Read as much as you like, as often as you like! Academic journals, news articles, biographies, comic books, magazines, fiction, non-fiction, you name it! Keep a log of how much time you’ve dedicated to reading each week and set attainable goals. Reading makes you a better communicator and learner. Expand your mind and choose selections from a variety of topics.

3

Go to bed early and sleep a little longer Studies show that extra rest helps students to perform better in class which ultimately boosts their test scores. Rest up, honey!

4

Nix any and all distractions Put your phone on silent (or do not disturb) during study time. Ask your siblings to move to another area of the house and keep the volume down. Go to the local library and request a study room. You deserve uninterrupted study time and when you find it, be unapologetic about it!

5

Sharpen your note-taking skills Are you the bullet point type? Do you need paragraphs of information? Are you more into diagrams? Don’t be shy about your note-taking style. These years are critical for how you consume information. Learn to decipher which keywords and nuggets of information are necessary to retain. If needed, ask your teacher for an extra handout or reach out to a classmate to compare notes in case you might’ve missed something in class. Also, notecards are old school but they are proven effective in strengthening memorization. Organization is key. Write down information in a clean manner that will make sense later on.

6

Cramming is pretty dumb Have you ever heard the expression, “I work well under pressure.” Lies. It’s not true. Waiting until the last minute to study for a test is insane and causes unnecessary stress which leads to acne breakouts, overeating, hair loss, and weight gain. Cramming for a test is simply not worth it. Get a calendar and jot down test days then create a study schedule for each day leading up to the test.

7

Reward yourself With all of that hard work, you deserve a treat! Setting a post-study incentive will motivate you to power through. Be it a snack or watching your favorite movie, make the reward something sweet and savory because you my dear earned it!

8

Ask for help Don’t be shy about speaking up when you need help. We all have one subject that we tend to get hung up on and that is okay! There is no such thing as the perfect student, no matter how many awards or A+ scores are handed out. There is always room for improvement with the right support system in place. Ask your teachers for extra time outside of class or talk with your parents / guardian about finding a suitable after-school tutor.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Instructions

3. In a small bowl, beat together the eggs and salt then stir and combine with the tuna mixture. Add in the cheese. 4. Spray the inside of a 12-cup muffin pan with cooking spray. Using an ice cream scoop (or tablespoon), fill each section with the mixture. 5. Place the tuna cheddar bites in the oven for 15 minutes or until they are set. 6.
