“ How to Become a Rock Collector
By Jarius Edens

Are you ready to dig a little deeper? Now, you can get dirty this summer and become a rock collector. Our earth is filled with minerals, rocks, and crystals buried deep down below the soil. The only way to get to them is to dig REALLY deep. Here’s what you should know so you can become a FAMOUS ROCK COLLECTOR!

There are different types of minerals in the ground. Mica, fluorite, and calcite are different minerals you might find when you go digging. MInerals are different colors in the ground like yellow, green, and white.
Have mom post your Rockin’ it Out drawings on Facebook using #izzyandlivrockcollector
There are 3 types of rocks below the dirt: sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous. Sedimentary rock is made up of sand and pebbles. Metamorphic rock is another name for crystals. Igneous rock is hardened volcanic lava.
”
The combo of rocks and minerals are called stones and crystals. They are formed under pressure. If you find crystals they may look dirty, but you can clean them off with a little water to uncover their shine. Stones are usually smooth from rain or ocean water. Grab your Summer Adventure Journal and draw any rocks you find when you go digging!

If you want to have an amazing and water-full (We probably just made that word up!) summer, then, you will love these great activities. Because when it comes to summertime fun, the wetter, the better!
1 Water Hose Limbo
4 Water Based activities for boys By Saeeda Ruffin When you think of summertime, do you think of water, beaches, and fun? Of course you do! But, if you can’t get to the beach that doesn’t mean that you can’t still have a good time during the hot summer months.
2 Water Balloon Pinata
This activity is sure to be a hit! Fill some water balloons with water. Tie a string or ribbon, about the length of your arm or leg, on each one. Then, have an adult hang them from a tree. They don’t have to make a design, but they can, if you want. Blindfold the swinger and give them a stick. Then, STEP BACK when they are swinging the stick to try to hit the balloons! Things are about to get wet and wacky.

Splash Those 3 Don’t Sharks
3 4 9
Things will get lit when you and your best buds are trying to figure out how low you can go during a game of Water Hose Limbo. All you need is a hose. Turn it on full blast so that the water comes out in a line (spraying the water will not work). Add music and watch the mayhem!
Most people don’t really want to see a shark when they go to the beach. So, for this game, you are going to do your best to AVOID the sharks in your backyard.
Draw a set of sharks and a set of circles (with number, for game points, on them). They should be about the size of your hand, and made with hard paper, like a cereal box. Cut them out and stick them to a wall or fence outside. You want to put the sharks in between the numbered circles. Fill a bunch of water balloons with water. Throw them at the circles to get points...but, do your best so that you don’t splash those sharks with the water balloons. If you hit a shark, you LOSE points. The person with the most points wins!
4 Water Serpent Skip
Imagine that your garden hose is a slippery serpent. Blast the water from the hose in a stream, not a spray, and have someone wriggle the hose. As the “water serpent” is wiggling, jump over it to avoid getting wet...or jump on the water to stomp that serpent. Your choice!
