Monsters By Girl Tyler

Monsters are only scary in movies! You know they’re not real so there’s nothing to fear. Have some fun with the creatures of your imagination by bringing them to life.

Here’s what you need:

Directions:

• • • •

1. Pull out the plastic liner from inside the tissue box. 2. Paint the outside of the tissue box with white to hide the design. 3. Once it dries, paint the outside of the tissue box with your favorite color. 4. Outline the opening of the tissue box with a black marker. (This is your monster’s mouth. ROAR!) 5. Glue the large googly eyes to the top of the tissue box. (You can glue one or seven! Glue on as many as you want.) 6. For the monster’s teeth, cut out triangles or square shapes from the white cardstock (any sturdy paper will do). Glue the teeth to the inside of the tissue box entry. 7. Glue the large pom-poms to the top or sides of the tissue boxes for ears or antennas!

• • • •

Empty tissue boxes Colored acrylic paint White acrylic paint Googly eyes (these can be purchased at a craft store) White cardstock (or regular paper) Large pom poms Black marker Hot Glue (you’ll need an adult for this!)

Write a scary story and act it out with your homemade monsters.

E x p e ri m e n t drink D

id you know that every time you mix your favorite drinks, you’re practically participating in a science experiment? Liquids are often used to measure density. Density describes how much space an object or substance takes up (volume) compared to the amount of matter in that object or substance (mass).

Density = mass ÷ volume The Density Experiment Drink will help demonstrate this using juices. The density of juice is determined by the amount of sugar or fruit it contains. The higher the fruit or sugar content, the more dense the juice will be.

Here’s what you need: • • • • •

4

Orange juice Pomegranate juice White grape juice A tall, narrow glass. An eye-dropper or turkey baster

Directions: 1.

Before you begin, form your hypothesis by guessing which drink you think will be more dense. (Tip: Identify the number of ingredients,

amount of sugar, and the water content to help you make a guess) 2. Pour one of your juices into the glass, filling it about 1 inch high. Fill the turkey baster (or dropper) with another juice and slowly drop it inside of the glass. Pay attention to whether it goes below or above the juice. (If the liquid does not sit above or below, this means that they have the same density) 3. Slowly drop in the final juice to see which one goes to the bottom (more dense) and which ones go to the top (least dense.) 4. Pour out the mixture and start over with a clean glass. This time, drink it up and enjoy the sweet goodness!
