too! BAke Boys

By Saeeda Ruffin

id you know that some of the world’s top chefs are men? Many of them probably got super interested in food and learned to cook when they were little boys. To be honest, cooking can be really a lot of fun... especially when it comes to baking! Who doesn’t love eating sweet treats that come from the oven? You probably can’t even name one person because just about EVERYBODY loves baked treats. Winter is the perfect time for baking! The smell of cinnamon, vanilla, and all of the other flavors of the season will fill your house when you bake treats. It may be cold outside, but your kitchen will be nice and warm from your oven doing all of that work. Ready to make it happen? Here are 3 mega-easy recipes for you and even your best buddies to try this winter:

8

Dirty Snow Cups

You will need a muffin pan, a package of pre-cut chocolate chip cookie dough, mini marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, and chocolate sprinkles. Place one pre-cut cookie dough in each space in the muffin pan. Smash the cookie dough so that it fills the inside like a cup. Bake at 350 degrees until the edges turn golden. With an adult’s help, take the cookie cups out of the oven, use a spoon to smash the cookie dough down a little bit, and then fill them with the marshmallows, sprinkles, and chocolate chips. Put them back in the oven to bake for another 2 minutes. When you take them out, they will look like cups of snow with a little “dirt” on them!

Cinnamon Swirlers

This recipe will have your house smelling amazing! You will need a mini muffin pan, a can of cinnamon rolls, cream cheese icing, and baking sticks. Unroll each cinnamon roll until it is stretched all of the way out. Cut each one into 3 equal pieces. Stretch each piece out. Then, re-roll each piece (so that they are swirled) into a space in the mini muffin pan. Bake them according to the package directions. With an adult’s help, remove them from the oven and let them cool off. Once they are cooled off, stick a baking stick half-way into each one. Lay them out on a tray and, using a fork, shake icing all over them or decorate them to look like snowflakes! Now, that would be awesome for the wintertime!

Apple Pie Bites

For this super simple recipe, instead of making a whole pie, you’re just going to bake a BITE! Well, not just one bite, but you will be baking little bite-sized apple pie treats. You’re going to need a bag of pre-cut apple slices, a bottle of cinnamon sugar, and a can of crescent rolls. Cut each uncooked crescent roll into 4 strips. Place the apple slices on a plate and sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar. Then, wrap each apple slice with a crescent strip. Sprinkle each one with more cinnamon sugar. Place them on a cookie sheet and bake for 425 degrees for 10-13 minutes. Ask an adult to help you to remove them from the oven when they are golden. Let them cool off and enjoy or eat each apple pie bite with a drop of ice cream while they are still warm. But, remember, don’t be too greedy grinch. You will only need a few “bites!” So, share.

After you finish making these fantastic winter treats, you can officially take the title of “Baking King”! That’s something that you will definitely get props for. Don’t be surprised if people want you to start making goodies for them!
