This series is, essentially, an ode to my first year at an art school, as well as to striving to find my own little niche while being surrounded by roughly 80 other incredibly talented people. Succeeding in art, especially in a more institutionalized setting, is so completely subjective; everybody has their own idea of what works and what doesn’t. This series was my way of taking something extremely trend-based, something that was almost (or could be) commercial, and saying: “I really like this method and I’m going to do it and have fun with it, no matter how many times it’s been done.” For me, this piece is a play on how this type of “aesthetic” is still so pleasing no matter how many times or how many different ways you get to see it.
