The From Here After: Fashion Film Festival, is essentially an eight-part fashion series that evokes key messages with the running theme being a dystopian world masquerading as a utopia. Unearthing real issues unfolding in our lives today but telling the narrative through fashion and creative direction.
What the From hEre AfteR festival publication aims to create: A sense of understanding. We will help you understand each film. The meaning behind the concepts and creative direction. Why the styling made sense in each episode. An education. Detailing why the issues explored in each episode are so significant and relevant today. Presentation of Imagery. Showcasing the stills from each episode. Taking a moment to appreciate everyone who got involved in the festival.
19th to 26th of April the film festival is launched www.fromhereafter.org

I see a woman Our first episode drop was wholey inspired by the looks created by DeltaOfPhoenix, an independent fashion designer who oozes dream land, fantasy world. The reason we decided to run with this aesthetic is because we linked this to our ‘dream’ future of equal rights for all genders. The men are covered up, sophisticated and smart. Whilst the females in this episode are resembled to be fragile with quaint dresses. This is why we styled black chunky boots for their feet. To convey the sense that the females are rooted to be strong and thriving but in society they are shoved in to the pigeon whole of the house keepers, instead of the bread winners. They are the dominated, instead of the go getters. It’s a familiar story line we have grown up knowing.
6
In the film, the men walk freely whilst the women are in a uniform line. The women fall down easily because the men find it easier to keep themselves up. The end of the film symbolizes women being able to get up on their own and has the strong core belief of ‘girls supporting girls’.
7
25% more Women have lost their jobs in comparison to Men since the Coronavirus hit. Women, especially mothers, suffer a more dramatic decline in their well-being. Why? Evidence suggests: one main reason is that women are used to having a heavier workload than men even before the lockdown; doing more unpaid domestic work, and have longer total work hours (paid and unpaid work) than men. These are both causes and consequences of other forms of gender inequalities, such as inequalities in pay, in occupational ranking and so on. Female dominating trades have suffered and have had little to no rescue packages, for example; primary research unveiled an independent beauty business, stating “I feel pushed aside and I’ve been really struggling since the pandemic I have no business and it’s difficult to pay my mortgage since I have no clients and no income” A clear divide has been displayed due to the pandemic and also from the effects of the lockdown, where Women have less liberty than Men and are more obliged to sit in the back-seat and watch the Men take the wheel. 8
"Feminism isn't about making women stronger. Women are already strong, it's about changing the way the world perceives that strength." G.D. Anderson

50 years! That is how long Woman have been cast back in society. Back to being the house wives, who’d dare to dream of something more. Men you are envied. Freedom for you is something you are born with. This episode explores Women still having less pay and less opportunity, Let us end the oppression under the blanket of this patriarchal world stuck in its ways. We saw a difference coming, just slight but it was there. Equal opportunities for all, now matter what you identify as.
The images above conveys the man to be standing tall and strong. He doesn’t have a problem getting what he wants. Life will be handed to him on a plate. To the left, the women in this image tells the story of how she is viewed in society. Weak, damsels in distress. She is poised as if waiting for a man to save her. Look at the two different body languages. This is not an equal perception. 11

Since the pandemic, social life begins with social media. ‘We are online more than ever, working from home, attending school from home, catching up with friends via video calls. And as stores and restaurants around the globe shuttered their doors, we all headed to the internet. The majority of respondents agreed that their social media consumption (72%) and posting (43%) have increased during the pandemic.

This episode is a spin on the olden day, silent films. The film makes a statement with moving image developing from black and white to vibrant colour. This represents time itself and telling the narrative the women have always been the leaders pushing positive change forward. The festival has conveyed women as strong and mighty despite having being portrayed the opposite for so many years. Women have not been feeling safe in society. As we know, you feel fashion has a responsibility to speak and raise awareness and have a positive influence, it is crucial for us to show women in a powerful position. We want to shift the perception of women being less than men. The fashion styling in this film represents 1800 style with corsets and puff sleeves. This is to enhance the narrative of women hood and the link to history. 18
We all came from a woman. The real leaders of change giving life to everything we see through care, patience and love. People say Women aren’t as strong, when they are stronger. It takes courage to continue to thrive in a space which built and received no credit for. They are pioneers do you see it now? We always knew that behind every strong man is a stronger women.
“As Women we are so concerned with being likeable, affectionate enough, smiling all the time. We’re not supposed to age, we have to always be in a good mood, always be sexy. Men are not give this extra homework. How are we going to catch up as a gender - this is Injustice” - Jameela Jamil 19

deja vu I’ve done this already. I’ve been here before. This again. Why do I feel this way? Never felt like that before. OMG this again. I’m so lost. When will this end. This is so fun. I want to cry. Help me. It’s getting dark. Get me out of my head. I need help. Omg I have seen that. WOAH Deja Vu. The lockdown blues.

This episode charts our emotions since being locked up in our houses with nowhere to go. It is an apparent fact that almost everyone who experienced the Covid19 lockdown in summer of 2020 found themselves going through juxtaposing lows and highs. Here we have re-imagined that whole space of time in one day. The hair style is conveying the aesthetic of ‘given up glamour’. Someone who still wants to dress up but feels there is nothing to dress up for. Every where is shut. Every day is the same - hence the title ‘Deja Vu’. The key aspect to this film is the way it was created. Through FaceTime. We have reacted to the times. Showcasing how you can create in a new way and fight the obstacle of the pandemic. Staying fresh and a foot. We give to you a haunted film that still inspires hope. The film is supposed to contrast in every way from tone and lighting to expression and narrative. The lockdown was a confusing time that is why we want that feeling to come across in this episode. Lastly, we have made the point of making our model bored and trapped. This is an innovative new way to shoot and style future films.

Alone together 24
The ‘Alone Together’ episode features 3 different characters. Each represents a different time before Covid19 existed. This is because they are each symbolising the mind sets of the different generations going through these new changes and how they are handling these new rules today. We have a 70’s outfit. In the colour scheme of lime green and brown. With an up do hairstyle and graphic liner. Next is out 80’s outfit. The Fila brand was big and men wearing short shorts - hyper feminism - was all the rage in this decade. Lastly, we have our 90’s outfit. A camisole top reading ‘90’s baby’ and flares. The scenes through out this episode is inspired by clueless thoughts. They don’t know how to act. The models can be seen doing unusual poses in public as the don’t know how to act since the new government rules being imposed.

I don’t know how to act anymore So much mystery has lead us here. Now we have to live by so many new rules when most of us just finished learning the last ones. Feeling unsure of what the future holds after lockdown and the new rule of social distancing. Still adjusting to the new guidelines put in place. High numbers struggling with mental health due to loss of loved ones and the drastic changes. Not knowing how to act nervous and apprehensive about returning to work environments. There is so much still going on fromt he after effects of this pandemic. Who actually knows how to act anymore?
you are staying at home.’, ‘Loneliness has less to do with the number of friends we have or how often we see or speak, and much more to do with feeling connected and seen for who we really are. The more we can embrace vulnerability by sharing our struggles and successes.” Ruth Sutherland: CEO, Samaritans. Even after Lockdown, social distancing measures will stay in place. Humans are social animals and we thrive on connection with others – it’s often the driving force behind everything we do. The pandemic has significantly curtailed the way we interact, leaving more people increasingly isolated and vulnerable. No one can be certain of the rules after Lockdown is lifted in England and moreover it is hard for the general public to say when it will

The ‘No Human Possesses’ episode is a reference to the delusion that one race should have more power than the other. Every human should be seen as equals and not be judged for differences in our skins but to be celebrated for our diversity. No human possesses a superiority over the other! ‘ALL WERE ASKING FOR IS EQUALITY NOT REVENGE’ - Kimberly latrice jones ... now let that sink in. Racism,

unfortunately at the heart of fashion. ‘“We’ve already got a black girl,” “It’s not our creative vision,” “Our customer isn’t ready yet.” Prominent fashion people are regularly and credibly accused of racism, labour abuses, and beyond. This is not the only place where fashion is failing to be inclusive, there is also a line where celebrating a culture can become cultural appropriation when treated in the wrong way. ‘If you show love and appreciation for parts of a culture, such as clothing, hairstyles, or accessories, but remain prejudiced against its people, that’s appropriation. On the other hand, if you learn, explore, and understand a different culture and then show that in a style that you’ve developed over time, that’s appreciation.’ Another example of Cultural appropriation can be ‘fetishism’ of clothing e.g. on the A/W18 catwalk designer brands were accused of fetishing the Hijab. “The killing of George Floyd while in police custody and the global outrage and protest that followed is bringing a dawning

and
The concept of this episode is all about lack of understanding from both sides. Key issues discovered: Lower income jobs more at risk of losing money and jobs. A divide that has been made more clear with Covid19 widening the gap. Rich wanting to pay for “special treatments” receive vaccines first. Opposite experiences with opposite income (rich/poor) Some left resentful. UK Influencer leaving country to avoid lockdown and to continue lives. THERE IS LACK OF UNDERSTANDING FROM BOTH SIDES. Their clothes convey which side of the spectrum they fall. Three of the six are dressed more lavish and seemingly more wealthy. The other half are dressed more casual in denim, which in the past has been linked to lower income. In the episode they hold signs up to each other showing that the rich feel it is easy for the poor to get out of their difficult position. They view them as lazy. The poor view the rich as ‘out of touch’ with reality. They are spoiled and buy themselves out of difficult situations with lack of empathy for people who are less well off. 37

Naive Change This episode has the mission of conveying everything we have to fight for. Each person represents a different section of life we need to help, save and preserve. Mother Nature, The Sea, The Sky and The Animals. It is to shine light on how we can not take this planet for granted. We are not visitors on this earth, this earth is our home. We are screaming there is NO PLANET B. The black dress design you see in this image is symbolism of black pollution entering the sea. She is destructive. Our Mother Nature is soft. She is calming force. Just like the Sky. Our Animals can do nothing but wait and hope for people to see the error of their ways. ‘Satellite data have revealed a drop in atmospheric levels of nitrogen dioxide (a key air pollutant released by the burning of fossil fuels) over cities and industrial centres across Europe and Asia as traffic and factories have quietened – falling in some regions by 30-40% compared to this time last year. Levels of sooty particles in the air – which, like nitrogen dioxide, also cause respiratory diseases – have also greatly reduced. Consequent reduction in industrial air pollution itself have probably saved the lives of tens or hundreds of thousands of people.
