Task 1: Learn about the Native NW American Indians.

1. Learn how the Raven was thought to be responsible for giving people the Sun. Click on the LINK icon on the assignment page, to go to the story. After reading/ listening to the story return to this page and continue. 2. You need to design FIVE panels for your Bentwood box. Each panel should use symbolic imagery in the Northwest Native American Indian Style. Before you begin you should learn about this style and understand the meanings of the symbols that this culture used. Click the 2nd LINK icon, to go to this information, after your research, return to this page and continue.


Task 2: Making your Bentwood Box. 1. What is a Bentwood Box? Your first task is to find out, Click on the LINK icon to find out more information about Bentwood Boxes. After return to this page and continue. 2. You will need t make a plan for your Bentwood Box. Follow the instructions below carefully. Use the Video and Audio tutorials for extra help if needed: Steps to Follow: • Using a sheet of A4 paper draw the plan for your box. Click on the document icon to see an example, with measurements. • Add your designs to each panel. Use a sharp pencil to draw the outline of your designs. Ensure that your line is clean so rub out any old sketch. • Paint your design using traditional Northwest Native american Indian colours. Click on the LINK icon (top of this task) for help with colours. • Cut out your Bentwood box design plan. • Fold, make and complete your Bentwood Box.


Task 3: Submitting your sample work. • Take a digital photograph of your Bentwood box. • Transfer your photo from your camera to a memory stick and/ or PC. • Click on the button called SUBMIT WORK located at the bottom left of the assignment page. • Use the Silver (BOTTOM) BROWSE button to locate your work from your PC/ memory stick, select OPEN when you locate your work. Then click on OK.
