For this assignment you are required to develop and design a small-pocket object. Your final design should be illustrated using at least 3 different view points (elevations) and should be done on A3 (size) paper, including colour and annotations. Read the task instructions below carefully and use the media players and icon links for more help.

Task 1: Design Brief 1. For this assignment you are to design a small pocket object. A short video will be watched in class that shows how students at the Royal College of Art tackle this design project. After watching the video in class you will then need to think of at least SIX different pocket objects for your design. 2. Using TWO full pages in your sketchbook divide each in half so that you have FOUR work areas/ cells. Click on the 1st image icon (top of this task) for an example. 3. Inside each cell, illustrate your initial ideas and add annotations (written comments) that explain your idea: What it is? How it works? Who would use your pocket object? What your pocket object would be used for? etc. Click on the 2nd image icon (top of this task) to see an example of a past students work. 4. Add colour to your designs and backgrounds.


Task 2: Choosing your Pocket Object design 1. For this task you are to choose your best/ strongest design idea. Using a sheet of A3 (size) paper, you should illustrate your pocket object using at least 3 different elevations (view points) such as the FRONT, REAR, top and/ or ANGLED. Click on the 1st image icon (EXPLORE) for an example of elevation drawing. 2. Annotate each of your illustrations/ Elevations to explain your idea fully. 3. Add colour to your designs and to the background for effect. 4. Click on the 2nd image icon (EXPLORE) to see an example of a past students work.


Submitting your work: • When your ICE BREAKER design is finished you need to take a digital photograph of your work (if you need to borrow a camera form school ask). • Transfer your photo from your camera to your PC and then use the SUBMIT WORK button, at the bottom right corner of the assignment page to submit your sample work. • When the next window opens use the BOTTOM (2nd), of the two BROWSE buttons to locate your photo from your PC. When you find it, select it and then click the OPEN button, followed by the OK button to confirm your action. • You will then return to the assignment page, go to the bottom left corner and click the button called DONE. • You can watch a short video tutorial that shows and explains how to submit your sample work inside the eTv/ ICTAC channel, use the eTv link on the assignment page and navigate to the ICTAC channel. To go back to the course home page click the DONE button below left and use the TABS.
