Extend Search World Library Catalogs

When you do the Extend Search, one option you can choose is to search the materials in World Library Catalogs. This tutorial will give you a very brief overview of what you are searching when you come to this page.


Extend Search

When you click on WorldCat, you will be looking at the results of your search in the largest bibliographic database in the world, which comprises the holdings of many libraries. The records you find here will be following the controlled vocabulary used in U.S. and Englishlanguage libraries, including AUR.

You can limit your results in different ways


Extend Search

No single library (including AUR) has everything in WorldCat, but since you are in Rome, you have access to many materials. Also, the Extend Search can be used to find all kinds of related resources. Here is an example. Let’s say you want this book.

You can also find articles and reviews that cite this book by going into the Articles and Open Archives selection. You may even be able to see a partial scan if you check in Google Books (under Electronic Book Projects).

You can opt to search in the catalog of the U.S. Library of Congress. Selecting this option gives you several ways to search.

Options for more accurate searching. Also, if you select the Call number, you can “browse the shelves� of the largest library in the world!

You can select the catalog of the British Library, which may include materials not in WorldCat or the Library of Congress. You can limit your search in various ways.
