04 Johnson & Johnson
Ad Campaign
Perhaps it’s because the brand name “Band-Aid“ is an everday moniker for any store bought bandage; but Johnson & Johnson, one of the world’s leaders in household necessities, hasn’t advertised for it’s most generic and commonly used product in decades. The challenge for this project was to re-introduce the Band-Aid to parents with children that may have a little more edge then they themselves had when they were young.
Johnson & Johnson
The ad campaign would be implemented through print in magazines like US Weekly and Parent Magazine. A commercial line up could easily fit into the campaign, airing on most cable network channels, as well as kid-centric stations like Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network.

10 AIGA 2009 Poster
Poster Design
Playing off the word “produce,” the desired effect was to create a poster reminiscent of road-side signs for fresh local produce - a staple of any country road. Being that our portfolios are a graphic designer’s own special form of produce, the design features a fruit tree sprouting from the brain. Included would be a tote bag and a three-dimensional invitation with a peel off name tag for each reviewer on the back.

14 The Little Mermaid
Illustration
The original version of The Little Mermaid is much darker than the Disney classic we’ve grown accustomed to. In attempt to reflect the darkness of the original tale, this story begins in the deep sea, where the fish (mermaids included) have evolved into terrifying creatures adept to their murky surroundings. The book cover is reminiscent of shipwreck debris, with wood burned type. The challenge was to create watercolor illustrations that relate to the written type, and in turn, typography that subtly correlates to the illustrations.

Keepers of the Coast
Logo Design
Keepers of the Coast is a nonprofit organization from St. Augustine, Florida; that stresses the importance of sea turtle conservation. With their budget in mind, the challenge was to advertise and identify Keepers of the Coast as an organization with a message of action and preservation. The logo reflects St. Augustine’s “modern-day hippie“ culture, and utilizes the sea turtles natural coloring. Being only a two color logo, it could easily and inexpensively be reproduced as a stencil for applications to cars and for various beach graffiti. T-shirts and merchandise would be sold and profits would be donated towards further sea turtle research and preservation.

Photography
A study of shadow and texture, these photos were taken using high resolution images of animals and projecting them onto the form. With use of studio lighting and manual camera settings, these images were meant to capture the ferocity of the human spirit.

30 Agent Provocateur
Ad Campaign
Agent Provocateur has been making women feel sexy and men thank God for black lace since they opened in 1994. Considering that their advertising is predominantly web and video based, the challenge would be to tame-down their overtly sexual identity without watering it down for public distribution. Each ad highlights deadly sins with sexy connotations: lust, envy and pride. The ad campaign would run in magazines such as Elle, Cosmopolitan and Vogue; and would be able to carry through to specialized packaging as well as billboards.

Magazine
Everything’s made of tiny little particles. Hence the name for this magazine, which focuses on topics like illustration, music, fashion, and photography. Seemingly unrelated at first, Particle forms together as the sum of many to create a whole concept or idea.

44 North Carolina Tourism
Ad Campaign
North Carolina offers a plethora of opportunities to the avid traveling family. It’s natural beauty is affordable and much more likely to bring your family closer together than a day in a crowded amusement park, waiting in long lines. The challenge in this ad campaign was to encourage families to pass on the typical family vacation and visit North Carolina for the affordability of it’s natural surroundings and tourist destinations.

Postcards related to the general theme of “insert your family here“ would be produced for distribution and in turn, not only let your loved ones know how your trip’s going but also inform other possible travelers about the beauty offered by North Carolina.

Collabrative Mural
Julington Creek Elementary School Mural
Elementary school is the only time of our lives that we’re actually allowed a whole hour of our day to just go outside and play around. With that in mind, we photographed actual students from J.C Elementary and illustrated them in relief along a 70ft long wall. There were over 30 silhouettes projected onto plywood and then subsequently cut out and uniquely painted.

Upon close examination of each figure, one will see that each individual “kid includes another child’s silhouette within its design. Considering that all of the figures, although the executed in a similar illlustrative style, are quite different from one another, putting another silhouette in the figure brings the mural together just one step further than before.

54 Printmaking
Silk Screen & Intaglio
Printmaking is an excellent medium of fine art for a graphic designer. It’s already graphic nature provides us with a better grasp of color and design. Many times we will be asked to design t-shirts or other various silk-screened products, and experience in the field will most certainly come in handy.

60 EZPZ Makeup
Logo Design
Sometimes it’s the most simple things that require the most amount of work. Making yourself up in the morning, however, shouldn’t be one of those things. The EZPZ logo features a lemon, a natural symbol of all things fresh and clean. Even if it did take two hours to put on your eyeliner, EZPZ makes anything appear effortless.

Book Re-Design
Notes on Graphic Design by Gregg Berryman is, although an excellent source for information on design, a horribly designed book. The challenge in this book re-design was to modernize the text and illustrations, and in turn sharpen my own skills at layout design.
