FROM THE PRINCIPAL

SCOTT DILLE BRONCO FOOTBALL 2015! I am excited for another great Bronco football season! After the success of the last four years, this year’s edition of the Broncos looks to be better than ever. It is great to have Tim Simons as our head coach and watch as he, and our dedicated football staff, works diligently to prepare our athletes for another great season. I look forward to watching them compete for a TRAC title and possibly the Valley Title. On behalf of the students and staff at the Clovis North Educational Center, we would like to thank those students, coaches, and football boosters who work so hard to make football a great experience for our community. As you browse through the pages of this program you will notice several individuals and groups who “together” make CNEC a great place to go to school. As principal, I have enjoyed watching the incredible achievements of our student body in scholastic endeavors, athletics, the performing arts, and other school sponsored clubs and activities. I am so proud of the effort our students make each day in and out of the classroom. And to our CNEC staff —you are absolutely the best! So much of the credit for these top notch programs goes to your dedication and ability to earnestly develop our student’s qualities of scholarship, character, and participation. I would also like to acknowledge our terrific CNEC parents who support and hold their students to such high expectations. Thank you for the tremendous amount of time, talent, and treasure you share. Your dedication to our school community ensures the success of so many of our activities here at CNEC. As you sit back and watch the collective efforts of our players and coaches, please remember to support them, our opponent, and the officials in the most positive way possible. The “Bronco Family” has been, and will continue to be, a shining example of what high school athletics represent.

GO BRONCOS!

NOTEABLE:

Clovis North Ed Center received the California Department of Education “Gold Ribbon Award!” this last spring. Schools applied for the award based on a model program their school has adopted that includes standards-based activities, projects, strategies, and practices that can be replicated by other local educational agencies.

CLOVIS NORTH ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Welcome to another exciting year of Bronco football. Coach Simons and his staff have challenged our football athletes to build upon their successful, undefeated, outright 2014 TRAC championship. Coach Simons and his staff know that winning is not something that just happens, but it is something that an athlete earns through hard work and dedication. The current roster of players have earned the right to represent Clovis North through their hard work this past off season. The team has not changed just physically through their hard work but have formed a brotherhood that makes them a cohesive unit when they take that field on Friday nights. Once again we are looking forward to pre-season match ups where we will face some of the toughest opponents in the state. These contests are a fundamental progression in building the Bronco team: play the best to be the best. The TRAC is always a test of imposing our will and our game on the teams in our own backyard. Coach Simons leads an experienced staff who are working with the athletes to face every opponent with precise execution, and just as importantly, with the heart of a team that fights every play. I thank all of you parents, teachers and students who invest in supporting the mind, body and spirit of our football team. Go Broncos!

COBY LINDSEY, CLOVIS NORTH ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

GRANITE RIDGE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

It is with great anticipation that we want to welcome all of you to the 2015 Granite Ridge football season. This year’s football staff has been working hard with our young athletes to prepare them for what will surely be an exciting season. We know that Bronco Football would not be successful without significant dedication and commitment demonstrated by our Bronco families and our amazing fans. I would like to thank the Quarterback Club and all of our parent volunteers for all of their hard work and enthusiasm in making Bronco Football the best program it can be. In our “pursuit of victory with honor” we strongly urge our Bronco community to exhibit positive support for all our athletes, coaches as well as the opposing teams and officials. The experience and lessons learned by our student-athletes through their participation in athletics is something our young athletes will carry with them through their lives. Let’s continue to show the rest of the league that we do things the right way, BRONCO BRANDED!

ROB STREETER, GRANITE RIDGE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

HEAD COACH AND DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL

TIM SIMONS Tim Simons, one of the winningest coaches in Central Section football history, will again lead the Clovis North Football program in 2015. Simons guided the team to a 7-4 record last season that was highlighted by a 5-0 conference record and an Outright TRAC Championship. Simons was the Broncos first Head Football coach and program director when the school opened in 2007. In 2011, he stepped down because of a health issue, but continued as Clovis North Assistant Athletic Director. In 2012-13 he served as the quarterbacks coach at Fresno City College. Simons began his coaching career 50 years ago as a graduate assistant coach at Fresno State. After two years on the Bulldog staff, he became an assistant coach and teacher at Clovis High School. In 1973, he left Clovis to become the head coach at Lennox High School in Los Angeles. In 1976, Simons returned to Clovis as their head football coach, where for the next 24 years he amassed a record of 220-59-5 for the Cougars, winning 11 league championships, reaching the section finals nine times and winning five section championships. In 1984 he was named California State Coach of the Year. In the 1990’s, Clovis won 101 games, three section championships, and were twice nationally ranked. In 2000, Simons joined the Fresno State Football staff under Pat Hill as an offensive assistant coach, where he remained for 7 years. During that time the Fresno State offense was often among the nation’s best. As a Bulldog coach, Simons coached or recruited many players who went on to play (and are still active) in the NFL, including first round picks, Logan Mankins, and Ryan Matthews. In 2001 Simons was inducted into the Fresno County Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2012, he was inducted into the Fresno High School Wall of Fame.

“In a relatively short period of time, Bronco Football has established itself as one of the top football programs in the Central Section. This year’s team is determined to continue that high level of play. We have an extremely tough pre-season schedule that will lead into the very competitive TRAC Conference games. And, in the end, the Valley Championship will always be our goal. We will be an exciting team to watch and we always appreciate the great support of our fans and community.” — Tim Simons

VARSITY COACHES WILL PIERCE C0-OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR/ OFFENSIVE LINE Will Pierce enters his second season as the offensive coordinator under Head Coach Tim Simons. He began coaching at Clovis North in 2007, as an assistant for the freshman squad, moving to the junior varsity staff the following season. In 13 total years of coaching, Pierce has been a part of 9 league titles and three Valley Championships. He began his coaching career at Clark Intermediate as an assistant football and track coach where they won a CIAL football title and back-to back CIAL girl’s track titles. Along with a Clovis North varsity football TRAC title and two Valley Championships, Pierce also was a part of coaching staffs that lead a freshman team to a league title in 2007, and JV title in 2008. As an assistant track & field coach he helped the Bronco girl’s varsity team to a Valley Championship in 2009. Pierce also coached track at Granite Ridge as an assistant from 2011-12. The girl’s team won back-to-back CIAL championships during those two seasons.

Through team management and organization we free our coaches to focus on their team’s daily workouts and preparation for our opponents, so that we can win games! The Quarterback Club also provides support to our players and parents by maintaining updated communication via Shutterfly team websites, providing hydration and pre-game meals for all teams before all games throughout the season. Other tasks that the Quarterback Club takes on each season are fundraising, merchandise production and sales, money management, uniform management, equipment procurement and management, transportation, snack bar, game program and poster production.

At Granite Ridge and Clovis North we are in a unique position that gives us a competitive advantage over most schools. Our football program is more comprehensive than most because our Quarterback Club takes care of five teams (7th through varsity) as opposed to most programs that only take care of three teams (freshman through varsity). This gives us a competitive advantage because we all share the same practice fields, equipment, and the overall coaching philosophy that comes from our Director of Football, Tim Simons. However, taking care of five teams creates some challenges and is more expensive to run overall. This is why the Quarterback Club exists. The goal of the Granite Ridge and Clovis North football program and the Quarterback Club, is to provide for our players at Granite Ridge and Clovis North and beyond. We raise money so that each player that leaves our program upon graduation takes with them an experience that will benefit them for a lifetime. It is well documented that students who participate in sports teams make better employees, are more likely to finish their education and report having had a good experience during their high school years. Our football program has also been successful in placing athletes at Division 1 schools with full scholarships. Last year we had six of our players go on to get such scholarships to schools such as UCLA, USC, US Naval Academy, Army and Fresno State. We have a track record of getting our athletes into college and we would like to continue that success. So, moving forward, we will need the support of ALL our parents from 7th grade to varsity. Please, get involved when called upon, attend meetings when they are scheduled, donate when asked, volunteer when needed, attend games and cheer on our teams. It takes a lot of effort to keep this football program running, winning and growing. It will take an active Quarterback Club to sustain our football program for the years ahead. Each Team Manager is listed on this page to the right. Please contact your team manager to find out how you can get involved and support Granite Ridge and Clovis North Football.
