Training Workshops to Address Self Resiliency & Personal Development __________________________________________________________________________

Handling Stress This can be a 1 or 2 day workshop which gives participants an opportunity to identify their stressors both in work and outside. The workshop gives individuals opportunities to explore how they react to pressure and learn simple strategies to change thought processes. At the end of the seminar participants will: o Identify difference between stress and pressure o Recognise how it affects the way we think and act o Learn simple techniques to ‘switch off’ This workshop is an introduction to a series of seminars which include: Handling conflict and dealing with difficult people. Developing positive self esteem Changing thought processes to create positive self talk (CBT) Listening Skills - an introduction into improving listening skills by using basic counselling skills. o Practical relaxation therapies to include simple massage techniques. o o o o

Experiential Workshops These are delivered over 6 weeks offering participants an informal and fun taster of some of the theories behind different counselling approaches and how certain techniques can help us, not only gain a better understanding of ourselves, but also strengthen our emotional wellbeing. Workshops can be designed for individual needs but the most popular are:I’m Beginning to Sound Like my Mother! A workshop that looks at aspects of Transactional Analysis and how it can be used to help us understand how we interact with each other. This is particularly helpful for understanding anger and how we can manage it. This course can be expanded to consider other aspects of anger management. Positive Self-talk This uses CBT techniques to help us identify unhelpful thoughts and reframe them so that we can live more positive lives. Story Telling Looking at how creating stories can provide a non-threatening way of dealing with issues we may have.


At the end of these workshops course participants will: o Have a better understanding of themselves and how they interact with other people. o Be more aware of why other people behave in certain ways. o Have had the opportunity to reframe their thinking in order that they can reduce their anxiety and deal with stressful situations in a more positive way. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other Workshops Attachment Theory This 1 day workshop gives participants an opportunity to raise their awareness of the significance of secure attachment and its impact on emotional well being. o Explore the different types of attachment o Consider the way attachment influences the way we deal with a situation o Considers the importance of family relationships and how this can impact on learning o Considers how insecure attachments can affect the way in which we respond to the learning environment

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Child Emotional Intelligence This 1 day workshop gives participants an opportunity to raise their awareness of the significance of emotional health in young children. o Explores the meaning behind emotional intelligence o Explores the importance of experiences from birth to three years old in promoting emotional development o Considers the early influences on our emotional development o Consider the process of nurturing mentally healthy children ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Early Years Building the Foundations for Good Mental Health This 1 day workshop gives participants an opportunity to clarify what we mean by Mental Health. o Explore our understanding of mental health and social and emotional development


o Consider the importance of early relationships o Consider the development of the brain during early years o Consider the conditions that affect brain development and function ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mentoring This 1 day workshop helps to promote emotional well-being in the community. This workshop looks at how we can either modify or set up a new peer mentoring system. Course participants will: o Have a set of resources to enable them set up, monitor and evaluate their own peer mentoring system. Resources such as confidentiality policies, reflective diaries, support workshops, etc. will be provided. o Have a model training workshop they can use with young people. o Have the opportunity to discuss issues such as when to refer on and how to support the mentors themselves with an experienced counsellor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Listening Skills This 1 day workshop gives course participants an introduction into improving basic listening skills. At the end of the workshop participants will have learned about: o o o o

Basic attending behaviour and how minimal encouragement to talk can be used. The use of open and closed questions. Selective listening skills such as paraphrasing and summarising. Reflection of feelings.

This is delivered as a 6 week programme as self help for adults or for helping parents cope with teenagers. At the end of the workshops participants will have a better understanding of: o o o o o o

Levels of anger Strategies to control anger Thoughts that lead to anger The role of the parent Being assertive Negotiating boundaries and consequences

At the end of the course participants will have an understanding of: o o o o

Why individuals react differently in stressful situations Learn 8 skills to use when in a problematic situation. Understand the different personality types How to take control.

Practical Workshops Relax Kids A practical half day event giving the participants an opportunity to learn the ethos of the Relax Kids classes and how to incorporate the work into the school setting. At the end of the session, participants will have: o Experienced a Relax Kids session o An understanding of the planned structure of a session o Ideas of how Relax Kids can be used within the classroom It is recommended that this event follows at least one set of Relax Kids sessions within the school. NB – this training does not qualify any participants to teach any other adults how to use Relax Kids and is purely for use within their own classroom.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Massage In Schools Programme A practical half day event giving the participants an opportunity to learn the Massage in Schools routine to use within their own classroom, to help their pupils learn to relax properly, to encourage positive relationships, promote respect and well-being. At the end of the session, participants will: o Have experience of the MISP set routine o An understanding of how to implement it within their classroom o Knowledge of how the MISP can help promote a more positive and relaxing environment within the school o Ideas of other ways the MISP can be utilised within the curriculum It is recommended that this event follows at least one set of MISP sessions within the school. NB – this training does not qualify any participants to teach any other adults how to use MISP and is purely for use within their own classroom.

Self-Care & Practical Relaxation Therapies This can be offered either as a whole day or half day where the participants get an opportunity to learn practical methods for keeping stress free. These sessions can include:o o o o o

Breathing techniques Self-massage Variety of massages Aromatherapy oils Guided visualisation
