Jacaranda Books Art Music Ltd is a fresh and exciting new independent publishing house based in London. We publish adult fiction and non-fiction, including illustrated books, across linguistic, racial, gender and cultural boundaries – books in many ways as cosmopolitan as our city. Through our publishing, we directly address the ongoing lack of diversity in the industry today, and seek to enrich the landscape from boardroom to bookshelf. We aim to bring you authors and books that represent the culture, heritage and ethnic variety that can be found in London, with a particular interest in works related to Africa, the Caribbean, and African America. At the heart of our publishing strategy is one core element: a love of outstanding, thought-provoking work. We believe that a wealth of unheard, under-represented voices exist globally and are ready to be discovered. It is our mission to create the space for those voices to be seen and heard by new readers. Valerie Brandes, Founder and Publisher

Synopsis Dismissed as a cultural lightweight by the man she is desperate to please, under-achieving PA, Faye Bonsu, is on a mission to find love. A disastrous night out leaves pasta-fanatic Faye’s romantic dreams in tatters and underscores her alienation from her African heritage. Leaving her cosy middle-class life in London’s leafy Hampstead to find out what she’s missing, Faye is whisked into the hectic social whirlpool of Ghana where she meets the handsome Rocky Asante, a cynical, career-obsessed banker with no time for women... until now. Transported into a world of food, fun and sun, and faced with choices she had never thought possible, Faye is forced to discover that no matter how far you travel, you can’t find love until you find yourself. From Pasta to Pigfoot is a fun, contemporary, multi-cultural novel that explores in a light-hearted way the clash of cultures that has become characteristic of our increasingly multicultural society.

Synopsis Adventurers of all languages and nationalities flock to an African city in recession, which could be either Kinshasa or Lubumbashi. They have only one desire: to make a fortune by exploiting the mineral wealth of the country. They work during the day in mining concessions and, as soon as night falls, they go out to get drunk, dance, eat and abandon themselves in Tram 83, the city’s only night-club and the den of all outlaws: ex children-soldiers, prostitutes, students, unmarried mothers, sorcerers’ apprentices… Lucien, a professional writer fleeing censorship, finds refuge in the city thanks to Requiem, a friend from his youth. Requiem lives mainly by stealing while Lucien only thinks of writing and living honestly. Around them gravitate gangsters and young girls, retired or runaway men, profit-seeking tourists and federal agents of a non-existent State. Tram 83 plunges the reader into the atmosphere of a gold rush as cynical as it is oftentimes comic and exotic. It is an observation of human relationships in a world that has become a global village. Coming Spring 2016 a heartwarming inspirational memoir to inspire a new generation...
THE ELEPHANT AND THE BEE JESS DE BOER
The Elephant and the Bee is the brilliant memoir/self-help book by young white Kenyan JESS DE BOER. This incredible and honest work takes a humorous and very insightful look at modern life from the perspective of a twenty-something girl with big Oprah-esque dreams to change the world and how she deals with the harsh realities as they keep on pushing her back down. It is with a hive of honeybees and a few marauding elephants that she finally discovers her true purpose. Travelling from Kenya, to Vietnam, New Zealand, Thailand and South Africa, The Elephant and the Bee is truly a modern guide for a generation hooked on social media and burdened by a sense of duty for the planet and their future. It is the ultimate inspirational text for a generation of young people starting out in the world and caught between the pull of ignorant youth and the reality (just a Google click away) of the way the world they have inherited has been changing and the need for them to step up and take charge.Â
