Greetings Mighty Mid-Western Region! I am your Regional Teen President, Richard Chandler and I’m excited to welcome you to the 2021 Teen Leadership Conference. Even though we are not meeting in-person, this will be an awesome virtual experience with many meaningful and engaging activities. The Regional Teen Leadership Board and I have worked extremely hard to make sure that this conference is the best one ever. I would like to thank all the mothers and teens who helped us make this conference memorable for everyone, especially our Regional Executive Board, Teen Leadership Development Chairs, Committee Co-chairs, and the Regional Technology Team. This year's conference theme is “Black Excellence: The New Gold Standard”. This theme fits the difficult times we have faced and are currently facing. The news and media outlets tend not to show our positive progress, but we know that when we succeed, it is better than gold. We have planned many things to incorporate this theme and keep you engaged throughout the weekend. I challenge you to learn everything you can. Be sure to take advantage of every opportunity and enjoy TLC 2021!

In Service,

Greetings Teens of the Mighty Mid-Western Region! On behalf of the Regional Executive Board, we are delighted to welcome you to our 67th Annual Teen Leadership Conference, “Black Excellence: The New Gold Standard.” This year we still find ourselves in unprecedented times. While we prayed this conference would take place on the campus of The Ohio State University, God had other plans. Disappointment was felt by us all. However, we are blessed with a creative and dynamic team that worked diligently to enhance the virtual experience. The theme for this conference is “Black Excellence: The New Gold Standard” because it exemplifies who you are. The theme was created to empower and remind you that your excellence is the new standard. That you, in all your greatness is the level all should strive for. Senior Class of 2021, I know this is the culminating experience of your tenure in Jack and Jill. You began this year with virtual events and are ending it the same way. I know this year has been especially hard on you. Virtual is not how you want your tenure to end. However, the team has worked hard to ensure we celebrate you in a special way during this teen leadership conference. I am extremely proud of your accomplishments and extend best wishes as you take on the next phase of your life. I am confident you will make a huge impact. I am equally proud of our regional team. An event like this whether in person or virtual takes the time and talent of a dedicated team. I am thankful for their creativity and enthusiasm to develop what is sure to be an engaging virtual experience. Special thanks to conference lead Member-at-Large Marvis Donalson for her exemplary leadership. Thank you for your passion, dedication and delivering with excellence. Regional Teen Officers you have done an exceptional job this year representing your constituents. You always make sure the voice of the teens is heard. The dedication you have put in is visible not only in this teen conference but everything you have executed. You began this journey as a new team and will end as a stronger team. I am so proud of you. I know you will continue to achieve and excel. You are the leaders this world needs. President Chandler you are an amazing leader. Thank you for allowing me to share this leadership journey with you. I am and will remain one of your biggest fans. Thank you all for having the audacity to be great. In Service,

Tanya Watson Mid-Western Regional Director

Welcome Mighty Mid-Western Region Teens! On behalf of the National Executive Board, I am excited to welcome you to the Mid-Western Region’s 67th Annual Teen Leadership Conference. Once again, we find ourselves enjoying this conference from the comforts of our homes and streaming live on a virtual platform. We continue to re-imagine our TLC experience. Our theme this year, “Black Excellence: The New Gold Standard” is so fitting and powerful. Our children truly have set themselves apart as the new standards for what excellence means. The strength and resolve that it takes to navigate through a pandemic, racial unrest, and an uncertain path forward, builds the kind of character that is built to last. These experiences need not be ones to discourage you, but instead, let them confirm the knowledge of who you are and whose you are. Excellence is not a destination that you eventually reach; it’s a way of living. Live each day and each moment with the goal of being excellent and you will continue to set new standards. Congratulations to the class of 2021 including our Regional Teen leaders – President Richard Chandler, Vice-President Devon Vowels, Treasurer Montana Billings, Foundation Chair Sydney Williams, and Nominating Chair Conner Long. This is not how you imagined your senior year, but I want to encourage all our seniors to trust the plans that God has for you. He has not changed His mind about your purpose. I encourage you to continue to dream dreams that are exceeding and abundant and to continue to shape our world by making your voices heard. You represent the remnant generation; called for a purpose and prepared for His timing. Thank you to the amazing regional team, led by our Regional Director Tanya Watson and TLC conference lead, MAL Marvis Donalson. It takes every one of us doing our part to make a conference like this come to life. We are zoomed out, but the careful attention and creativity you took to ensure this conference provides an engaging virtual experience is commendable. Congratulations on a job well done!

On Mission and On Purpose,

Nadine J. Gibson National Treasurer

Greetings Mid-Western Region Teens! As Regional Treasurer, I take great pride in welcoming each of you to the 67th Mid-Western Region Teen Leadership Conference. “Black Excellence: The New Gold Standard” is such a fitting theme for this historic and extraordinary year. Bringing this theme to life has been a labor of love for every member of the regional team and we invite every teen to take full advantage of all this conference has to offer – from committee meetings, interactive workshops, legislative programming, and community service to competitions, teen officer elections, senior gala and engaging social interactions. Whether virtual or in person, Teen Leadership Conference creates an unparalleled opportunity for our teens to showcase their leadership skills, talent, and expertise in academia, athletics, and the arts; to raise their collective and individual voices as advocates for change; to network with teens from across the region; to celebrate the success of the graduating seniors; and to give back to the local community with their time, talent, and treasure. I am so proud of our amazing group of Regional Teen Leaders—President Richard Chandler, Vice President Devin Vowels, Secretary Asata Young, Treasurer Montana Billings, Foundation Chair Sydney Williams and Nominating Chair Connor Long. Despite a global pandemic and the inability to gather in person this program year, our teen leaders, along with the Teen Committee Chairs, found a way to establish a strong bond of friendship while creating innovative virtual programming that was interactive, engaging and FUN! I am confident that their spirit and enthusiasm will be felt throughout this year’s teen leadership conference. Kudos to the RTL on a job well done! To the Class of 2021, I know this is not the way any of you envisioned ending your participation in Jack and Jill but I hope you are all very grateful that the leaders of this region put forth their best effort to ensure that you have the very best experience this year. Congratulations to each and every one of you! Your parents have made a significant investment in your future and I cannot wait to see how you utilize your power to make a difference in the world. I would be remiss if I did not thank our TLC lead, MAL Marvis Donalson, Teen Leadership and Development Co-Chairs, Kassandra Hayes, Luchara Wallace and Keith Vukasinaovich, Teen Committee Co-Chairs, Aramide Boatswain and LuVerda Martin and the entire TLC planning committee. Thank you for your dedication, diligence, and hard work in planning a dynamic and memorable virtual experience for the teens of the Mighty Mid-Western Region. Have a wonderful conference! In service to our Children and All Children,

Deidre Lindsey Mid-Western Regional Treasurer

Greetings and Congratulations to the MWR TLDC! Your hard work and dedication have made this another memorable and impactful year for the Mid-Western Region’s teens. While this year’s theme – Black Excellence – The New Gold Standard - is indicative of the pride in self and community that is necessary for collective success, it also speaks to your strong sense of self-determination and self-definition. You have modeled and demonstrated solid leadership, creativity, innovation and the importance of connection for all of our teens. These things along with the love and undying support you have from our Jack and Jill community will continue to lift you higher as you move into the next phase of your life. Thank you for all that you have done for and with Jack and Jill! Thank you also for all of the things you will do as leaders in our wider society. It has been a pleasure working with you. “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; 26 The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” - Numbers 6:24-26 25

Sincerely,

Cynthia Miree-Coppin Mid-Western Regional Secretary

Greetings, As Regional Foundation Member-At-Large for our Mighty Mid-Western Region of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, and Chair of the 67th Annual Mid-Western Regional Teen Leadership Conference, I welcome you and extend a heartfelt congratulations to all of our seniors. Under the leadership of Regional Director, Tanya Watson, alongside my Regional Executive Board sisters National Treasurer Nadine Gibson, Regional Treasurer Deidre Lindsey, Regional Secretary Cynthia Miree-Coppin, and the support of an amazing Regional Team, we have worked tirelessly to deliver you a conference filled with unique experiences that you will remember long after your time with Jack and Jill. To the Class of 2021, I will not exhaust the circumstances to which you were handed at the top of your senior year. In many cases the situation was not ideal. The timing of a pandemic was extraordinary. In addition to learning to adapt and pivot in a short amount of time, you were embattled scenes of injustice playing out your screens. We will never know or understand the depth of your resilience or your ability to overcome everyday stressors. But what is glaringly clear is that your generation’s loud call for a better nation has become an inspiration to us all. It is no wonder that this year’s theme is Black Excellence: The New Gold Standard; for truly, this world will not get better without your creation of new pathways, higher standards and better methods. To all the teens, this year’s Teen Leadership Conference was created to nurture the powerful excellence that lies within you. We want to celebrate your individual strengths as well as your inherited greatness. You are the change that we as a nation need. Your rise to the occasion is not to be misconstrued as an everyday occurrence. Instead, your rise is going to be a significant turning point for the world. Your leadership matters that much. Therefore, I hope and pray that you fearlessly embrace challenges, knowing that your inner greatness is always prepared to overcome them. I continue to reap inspiration from you and I celebrate you now and always. Please do not hesitate to apply the “New Gold Standard” in your everyday lives. Welcome to the 67th Annual Mid-Western Region Teen Leadership Conference.

Marvis Donalson Marvis Donalson Regional Foundation Member-At-Large

Greetings Teens, Families, and Friends of the Mighty Mid-Western Region, Welcome to the 2021 Teen Leadership Conference Black Excellence: The New Gold Standard. We are so grateful to have spent the past several months working with a dedicated and creative team focused on the capstone of the Jack & Jill experience, the Teen Leadership Conference. Working with the Regional Team under the direction of Regional Director Watson has truly been a rewarding experience. We so appreciate the support, dedication and commitment to our Mighty Mid-Western Region Teens. Our 2021 conference theme “Black Excellence: The New Gold Standard” reinforces the resilience and pride that our teen leaders share with the world everyday. This program year has been marked by a call for action. The 2020-2021 Regional Teen Leaders sought new and creative ways to fight Zoom fatigue and engage their constituents in the virtual world around justice and equality and mental health. They delivered on their mission to create engaging and heartfelt connections with teens across the Mid-Western Region. We are incredibly proud of each of them for their resilience and genuine commitment as an Officer and for remaining grounded in their service to the region. The Teen Leadership Conference is a showcase of all the hard work during the programming year by our Regional Executive Board, Regional Team, Teen Advisors, Mother Members, Dads, and Teens. We hope that you will engage in each opportunity presented while making the most of this virtual conference experience. A very special Congratulation to the Class of 2021! Despite half of your high school years being hijacked by COVID-19, you showed up and spoke up for the well being of yourself and your peers. As Nelson Mandela said so well, “There is no passion to be found in playing small, in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” Class of 2021, you have done just that. You are fighters and we encourage you to keep on! Remember to remain confident, humble, and committed to the service of others as you evolve to fulfill your true purpose. You are Black Excellence: The New Gold Standard! Yours in Jack and Jill,

Kassandra Hayes, Luchara Wallace, and Keith Vukasinovich Mid-Western Region Teen Leadership and Development Chairs

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger May you never take one single breath for granted God forbid love ever leave you empty handed I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance. I hope you dance... I hope you dance!! I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance Never settle for the path of least resistance Livin' might mean takin' chances, but they're worth takin' Lovin' might be a mistake, but it's worth makin' Don't let some Hell bent heart leave you bitter When you come close to sellin' out reconsider Give the Heavens above more than just a passing glance And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance. I hope you dance... I hope you DANCE!! DANCE, PAYTON, DANCE!!!
