21 unremarkable days in
A weird holiday diary type thing
On 23 March 2013 I went to Argentina for three weeks.
Charlotte came for the first two.
These are all the things I took with me.
I watched Dredd on the plane. It was a bit grim. My neighbour watched 25 episodes of Vampire Diaries. I’m not sure what that is but she was really into it.
This is everything we ate in our first three days in Buenos Aires.
This is an empanada that looks like a face.
Charlotte kept a diary too.
We were visiting Robbie in Nicole who are living in Buenos Aires. They are newly married and there time here is like a year-long honeymoon, which is nice. Henry came too.
We ate flan casero almost constantly. It’s like a creme caramel, but bigger.
We did the Buenos Aires cycle tour. This is everything we learned.
We took an overnight bus to Mendoza, the countryside bit on the edge of the Andes.
Then we drove a hire car to our rented caba単a in the sticks. We bought a Carlos La Mona CD in the bus station and listened to it the whole way. It was terrible.
Carlos La Mona is an Argentine national treasure, said the CD stand lady.
We went on one hike.
It was a short one.
Barbequeing the Argentine way 1 Light barbeque 2 Stare at coals for 4-5 hours 3 Put hunk of meat on the grill 4 Stare at food for 4-5 hours Your dinner will be ready by tomorrow.
We visited a vineyard. This is everything we learned.
I copied out every hand painted sign I saw from the bus window. I’m not sure why now.
Charlotte and I flew to Iguazú, home to the world’s best waterfalls (well, top three).
They were pretty good, IÂ guess.
Robbie and Nicole live in a room on top of on old textiles factory or something.
We drank mate all the time in a bid to fit in. No one seemed to notice.
A bit more hanging around in the city drinking cafe cortados with racist sugar.
And then home.
