The Bauhaus theme was rationality and stripping back on whatever isn't necessary. Focusing less on artist/designers emotion. This is why simple geometric forms were used, as they are the most comprehendable as well as the three primary colours.

So what is necessary on a phone?

I recently lost a phone. Is there a replacement or a way to get my contacts back? What about a cheap phone? How basic can I make it? What would I need on this phone? Do I need a sim card? Could my contacts be downloaded from the cloud?

"The circle, the square, and the triangle, every possible form lies dormant in these formal elements. Form is also colour. Without colour there is no form. Form and colour are one." Johannes Itten

Temporary Phone

Who / what / where / how / why? Non smart phone users, replacement or secondary phones Basic phone stripped apart from text and calls. Sold from a vending machine. Using cheap materials and minimal technology, I can create a basic phone that could use the cloud to download contacts onto the phone. Nowadays everything seems to become more complicated and sometimes its best if we simplify our designs, helping us to realise whats necessary.

This concept concentrates on the end of the phone’s life, when it has to be either recycled or put into landfill. The phone is separated into two parts, the electronics and the casing. When the phone has been used the electronics are refurbished and reused. The casing is melted down and can be used again.

This is Matt. He has lost his phone, so needs a temporary one.

Matt walks to his nearest phone dispenser. He types in his phone provider user name and password.

ÂŁÂŁÂŁ This will purchase the phone and bill his contract including a deposit, to insure the phone is returned after use.

The dispenser will give Matt a temporary telephone with all of his contacts downloaded onto it.

Matt uses the temporary phone until he can find a replacement.

The electronics are refurbished and are reused in new phones.

The body is solely made from plastic so can be melted down and used again.

The phone is returned to the manufacturer where the body and electronics can be separated.

To refund Matt's deposit, he goes back to the dispenser, enters his login details and puts the phone in the recycling section.

Plate Drop Using cardboard, design a case to protect a plate from breaking, after being dropped from a height.

Lloyd’s building is unique as all of its services are on the outside of the building leaving the inside uncluttered.

Inside Out

Le Corbusier applied his vision of an external frame to the sofa to embody the clean minimalism of the international style.

The plate is enclosed inside, surrounded by a protective skeleton

Bio inspired Invent something using inspiration from nature

- It has been found that some fish, amphibians, octopus and Bees use polarised light - They use it for navigation, to detect water surfaces and to enhance visual power - Using photo receptors, bees’ eyes filter the polarised light - A bee’s eyes are made up of visual cells. These cells contain microvili tubes which the pigment rhodopsin is contained - The rhodopsin molecules are aligned parallel to the axis of microvili tubes - I have created a product that uses a similar process, to an eye of a bee using molecules aligning perpendicularly, allowing polarised light to be detected.

My idea is to have a window that alters the intensity of the light coming through it, via twisting two polarised filters from 0ยบ to 90ยบ, controlled by a handle.

Work Experience Marketing Insite – Web design company: 27th October 2011 to present I helped increase the frequency of use of various websites by linking sites together to increase the popularity on search engines. I created profiles for a number of clients on the main social and business networking sites, such as Twitter and LinkedIn, as a marketing scheme to boost interest. Mainly I focused on designing twitter backgrounds, logos and websites, including branding a charity website. Jenny Domville - Charity Golf Day: August 2012 to October 2012

Date of birth: 13/11/1993

Aided in the organisation and running of a Celebrity Golf day held at Mere Golf and Country Club in Knutsford, Cheshire. My main role was to design the marketing aspect of the event, including the flyers, banners and invitations. The objective of the day was to raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma research, in memory of a close family friend. The day was a huge success and we managed to raise over £40,000 through various auctions and money raised through team entry.

Tuscan Rooms – Holiday accommodation - Italy: 17th July 2011 to 14th August 2011 I spent a summer in Bagni Di Lucca at a hotel where I was working around a Tuscan property. I mainly worked outdoors building various things including, a staircase, fencing and planting trees. I then moved on to another house where I assisted an Italian builder to restore an old stone barn. As this house was a project, I was given access to their workshop and was given sheets of copper and asked to design and create indoor lighting which I was able to achieve.

Creating the leaflets and posters for events was another of my jobs that I was assigned at PhotoUK, the leaflets were used to bring in customers through my promotional design skills. Bentley Manchester: May 2009 I was given an insight into a car dealership and the many different roles which make up the Bentley workforce. For instance I was in the showroom learning from a professional car salesman, how to sell a car and the communication skills needed with customers. The accumulation of my time in the showroom led to me assisting in the selling of a £120,000 Bentley continental soft top coupe GT, I had spent time outside of work to learn the facts and figures on the cars to aid me. I also worked with the marketing department on the different design tools the company used in order to attract more customers, and the role in which the advertisements had within the company.

Hobbies and Interests I have played rugby for eleven years for Altrincham Kersal RFC, having played ultimately in their 1st and 2nd XV at fly half. I have also represented Cheshire in their Under 18 development squad. In previous seasons, I have been selected as Captain. I am also the team kicker which means I have to convert tries and penalties, meaning I have to stay calm and focused under pressure and practice continually. I have now moved to Blaydon RFC to play higher level rugby. I also enjoy other sports like skiing, where I try to go once a year, and I play golf regularly.

Computer Skills Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Bridge, Lightroom Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Powerpoint CAD: Rhinoceros, Solid Works (basic), Alias (Basic), Google Sketchup
