Five tips for creating great videos to grow your business

Videos are a brilliant way of showing what you can offer, telling the stories behind your business and helping you to stand out from the crowd. Here are five easy steps to make sure your videos look good and do a great job of promoting your business.

Decide on the business goals for your videos

What would you like to achieve with your videos? Do you want to let more people know that you exist? Generate more leads or enquiries? Convince more people to go from “just looking” to actually buying? Focus on one goal for each video.

What do you want to say and why will your audience listen?

What are the two or three key points you want to get across? Don’t try to cram too much into one video, it’s better to create several short videos. Think about your audience.

Who are they? What are their pain points? Why will they be interested in what you want to say? Over 300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute so you need to give your audience a really good reason to watch your videos.

Choose the right video sharing platform

Find out where your audience goes and create the right content for that platform. One size doesn’t fit all – what works on YouTube may not be right for Facebook; Instagram and Tiktok are different again.

Tell a story

A good story creates an emotional response; it’s a kind of bonding experience. Using a story helps your audience to remember your key messages, but keep it as short as possible to avoid losing viewers.

5.

Make it sound good and look great

Being informal and authentic isn’t an excuse for wobbly camera work and bad sound! A cheap tripod will keep your phone or camera steady. Make sure that the people and objects on screen are well lit and that the sound is clear. Use a simple video editing tool to trim off the bits you don’t need and add a title and end screen with your logo and contact details.
