WITTERS 2022

IN COLLABORATION WITH IBIE OPUSO-JAMA AND ANNA ZAMO

Our proposal aims to create community-oriented spaces that cater to the live, work, play environment. We provide affordable opportunities for lower income demographics to have access to resources that encourage growth, education, and nature. We further reduce the need of cars by adopting a variety of green transportation as an efficient form of public transportation. Altogether, our proposal focuses on creating an inclusive space for all.

Located in East Harlem, New York. This project creates a community park space in an area that is neglected by the city. Providing a safe recreation for residentail and commercial uses. Inspired by the typology of Central park. Blending public and private spaces into a singular entity to provide unity within East Harlem.

CONCRETE JUNGLE

Introducing green space on a personal level to enhance the quality of life in East Harlem. With the addition of waterfalls for sound reduction and filtration, and green roofs and gardens to provide safe outdoor activites.

A concrete jungle creates a modular system that allows for smooth implementation within the current new york grid while adapting to the existing context that surrounds the site. This project provides a new park system that allows for the addition of more green space within a city that is limited in developable land. ZUCKERBROD 05

This destination ser ves as a unique dining experience, catering kitchen, and event space for many. Intertwining the historic qualities of the site with modern materials to create a “paper lantern” facade was key. ZUCKERBROD 07

ORLANDO OASIS

Located in Orlando, Florida. The goal of this project was to bring as much nature and natural elements to the theatre as possible. Creating moments of pause filled with greenery and immersive views. This theatre was inspired by the fluid dance and music of the production of Swan Lake, similar to the balance of notes and characters that the play produces.

Highlighting the church and the surrounding buildings that immersed themselves over time. Modern sculptures adding new and diverse shapes, patterns, styles, and colors. The landscape and foliage intertwine themselves between each building, unique for a city environment. Swans and other natural habitats are embraced towards the lake. A combination of old and new, with an appreciation for the land and water.

FLORIDA LANDSCAPE: CEDAR KEY

Preserving the rich land and life that surround Cedar Key, Florida was integral. Like the layers of shell-mounds that run deep in the ground, there is layers of history and eco systems embedded throughout. Most of the infrastructure is elevated over 10 feet for heavy storm surge and rising climate change. The town could potentially be underwater in the near future. The artist who come to the compound are influenced by the changing environment of Cedar Key, and seek to promote habitat in the future.

The Forms on the compound serve a function and gradually change and adopt with time. The Compound Rises with the landscape and soaks in water for the use of agriculture, art, and aquatic life. The envelope flows and changes through day to night. The spaces serve a purpose to promote art and evolve with the rise in sea level over time. The architecture is as inspired by the landscape, as the artist to their craft. Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec are featured artist on the compound. Their project titled “Urban Dreams” infuses landscape and urban life through the use of line, harmony and transparency.

The community intends to make the downtown area walkable to stimulate commercial activity, tourism, and engagment. Exposed greenwalls and solar panels will make a public statement, striving towards sustainability. Local expression and tourist exposure will serve the city’s goal to reach higher recognition.

The strength of the site lies in its physical location. There is no better place for a theatre than the heart of the Arts and Culture District in downtown Gainesville. Public transportation, bike panes, and pedestrian friendly streets lace the transects around the site.

BINDING

IN COLLABORATION WITH CHRISTIAN THOMAS, JOHN MELHORN, CATHERINE DICKINSON

Thomas Melhorn is a design build firm based in Jupiter, Florida. I was an architectural intern from June 2020-October 2020. I helped create presentations for competitions such as ICAA and AIA.The goal was to simplify and coordinate plans and elevations to enhance the designs created by Christian and John for this luxury water front homes.

Studying the joints and tectonics of a book bind and its relationship to the form of the University of Florida’s stadium parking garage. The construction of the walls and columns provide circualtion throughout the stadium, like the pages of a book, connected and woven together.

LUMINAIRE

TECHNICAL HARDWARE

Inspired by a menorah, the orah is an abstracted and simplified form of the ancient hebrew lamp. stripped down to natural wood, the two glowing sides seamlessly divide light. Floating in appearance to represent the mysticism of the divine. The individual strips of wood are angled ever so slightly to further filter light from every view. The orah is a symbol of endless light, warmth, and strength.

The inner connections of each piece come together to form a functioning piece of harware. Bringing to life pieces that orginally were lifeless matter. The door knob and lock are details to architecture that are more than hardware. They are a piece to a larger puzzle that open you into the wolrd of architecture. Studying these tiny details inspires me to see larger spaces in the same function. This study was an Intergral part of my ealier education learning the ways in which form follows function.
