BACKGROUND - The population of the New Orleans area fluctuates dramatically in reaction to both catastrophic and dionysian events. Mardi Gras Indians (a) claim the site during the festival season, and the relative poverty of the area makes it especially suseptible to the devastion of hurricanes. Urban living spaces must be designed to aggregate and service these occurent influxes.

SITE PLAN 1/16th SCALE
OBSERVATION - minimal privacy during the day and a lack of presence at night. An overall feeling of vacancy despite strong pedestrian and vehicular movement. Graphically represtend in (b) DEVELOPMENT - At the individual scale, a sleeping space (c) was developed that could offer light and privacy to the occupant, while an indicator of activity to the communtiy. This move combats the sense of vacancy during the nightlife of the site. Moving to the aggregate scale, the form of a wave serves the dual purposes of increasing privacy between spaces and activating the site (d). This form was further refined into the final model.

FRAMING THE SHOT CBD SHOOTING RANGE & RESIDENCES WAREHOUSE DISTRICT, NEW ORLEANS
DEVELOPMENT - Shooting ranges feature sound baffles (appearent below), and this feature was reinterpreted as a framing feature for sight and light, especially in the facade. An elevation study of the block (B) was undtaken and considered with the concept to design the baffled faces.

CARVE TO REVEAL OLD CITY BUILDING CENTER WAREHOUSE GER DISTRICT, NEW ORLEANS
DEVELOPMENT - The site observation drawing of the site shows glowing glass panels inset into brick (A). A concpet of carving to reveal a special material (glass with reflective foil in this case) considers the exceptional quality of the recycled construction materials that are revitalized. Structural design added rythm to the organization of program. RESULTS - A structurally efficient warehouse with sectional clarity, enivironmental fetures, and exploration of material applications.
