Jackrabbit Facilities Fishback Soccer Park The Jackrabbits play their home matches at Fishback Soccer Park, approximately a 10-minute drive from campus. It has a 120-yard by 75-yard natural grass pitch with lights, stands that can seat about 500 fans, a two-story press box, locker rooms and a concession area. The playing surface is considered one of the best in the upper Midwest. Practice Soccer Field SDSU maintains a training facility on campus. It contains a 120-yard by 75-yard natural grass field with underground irrigation and grass that matches the playing surface at Fishback Soccer Park. It also features a goalkeeper training station and an agility and fitness area adjacent to the field. Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex The Sanford-Jackrabbit Complex opened in fall of 2014. The multi-use facility features an indoor practice and competition space of more than 149,000 square feet and a human performance area of almost 15,000 square feet. It houses one of the only eight-lane, 300-meter tracks in the region, along with 100 yards of soy-based synthetic turf. Ground was broken in August 2013. The final beam was raised in March 2014, and the turf was installed in July. Fundraising efforts kicked off in the summer of 2012, with leadership gifts from the Dale and Pat Larson family, First Bank & Trust, Sanford Health, Larson Manufacturing, Brookings Health System and other anonymous donors helping to make this program-changing facility a reality. Athletics Director Justin Sell said that the facility supports the athletic department’s mission to develop lifelong champions and will have a positive impact on the university for decades to come. “The indoor practice and human performance facility will have the greatest impact on our student-athletes. It is a game-changing opportunity to build a facility that will benefit the university for the next 50 years,” Sell said. “The demands put on student-athletes today create the need for high-quality practice and support facilities that allow our student-athletes the opportunity to compete and excel at the highest levels.”

Lang Wedemeyer has become synonymous with women’s soccer at South Dakota State. Entering his 17th year at the helm of the program he built, Wedemeyer will try to guide his talented, veteran team to a third-straight Summit League Tournament championship. Last season, the Jackrabbits collected nine shutouts en route to their third consecutive winning season. Along the way they captured their secondstraight Summit League Tournament title and appearance in the NCAA College Cup. Finishing the regular season 12-6-3 overall and 5-1-2 in the league, SDSU entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed, but proceeded to knock out Oral Roberts and shut out top-seeded North Dakota State for the title. Wedemeyer earned his 150th career win in the semifinal match. In 2014, SDSU captured its second Summit League Tournament crown in dramatic fashion, topping Denver, 5-4, in penalty kicks. Tori Poole, who became the first freshman to be named Tournament MVP in Summit League history, sealed the victory for the Jackrabbits, sending them to their second NCAA College Cup. South Dakota State also won its fourth regular-season title, posting a 5-2-1 record. Against Oral Roberts Oct. 12, Wedemeyer secured his 100th career Division I victory as the Jackrabbits blanked the Golden Eagles, 3-0. Building a Winning Tradition SDSU did not have to wait long for its women’s soccer team to start racking up wins, titles and honors under Wedemeyer’s watch. In just 17 years, Wedemeyer built a soccer program from scratch and led his team through its transition to Division I play. In their fifth season at the DI level, the Jackrabbits earned their first trip to the NCAA College Cup. There, they recorded their first NCAA postseason victory, a 1-0 win over then-No. 6

14 Colorado. SDSU has since reached double digits in wins seven of the past eight seasons and missed the postseason just once. From The Ground Up In 2000, Wedemeyer launched a Division II women’s soccer program at SDSU with a roster of 19 players, just 6 of whom had previous collegiate experience. The roster also included six freshmen and four women who had played club soccer at SDSU in 1999. The roster was put together in just six months. SDSU posted a 5-12-0 record in its inaugural season. The team went 1-8-0 in the North Central Conference. Youth Lead SDSU to Postseason Berth The following season, Wedemeyer welcomed a freshman class of 14 to SDSU. Even though they were young and relatively inexperienced, the Jackrabbits posted their first winning season en route to earning their first berth in the NCC’s four-team tournament. For his efforts, Wedemeyer was named the 2001 NCC Coach of the Year. In 2003, Wedemeyer had his first player earn allAmerican honors. Senior Erin Miller posted a .915 save percentage and a 0.51 goals-against average, program records that still stand to this day. For her efforts, Miller was named the NCC Player of the Year and was honored as a second-team all-American. SDSU Makes Transition to Division I When South Dakota State decided to move its athletic department to the Division I level, Wedemeyer was left with the unenviable task of recruiting players into a program that was not eligible for the NCAA postseason and did not have a conference affiliation. Wedemeyer accepted the challenge even though it came with low points. The program returned to where it was three years earlier, posting a 5-11-1 record during its first season at the DI level in 2004.

That season, the Jackrabbits faced 11 DI opponents. On Sept. 12, they earned their first DI win, defeating Western Illinois, 2-0, at the Diadora Classic in Omaha, Neb. In 2005, the Jackrabbits endured another fivewin season but made positive strides, recording wins over DI foes Northern Iowa, Montana and Murray State and holding Big Ten member Minnesota scoreless Sept. 11. Wedemeyer Leads Jacks to First Title SDSU joined the United Soccer Conference for its 2006 campaign. Through their first five matches, the Jackrabbits posted a 3-1-1 record. But the team went 0-7-1 in its next eight matches, scoring just one goal over that stretch. Four of those losses were by scores of 1-0. The Jackrabbits did not lose confidence in themselves and ran off a 5-1-1 record to close the season. In the USC tournament, goalkeepers Nicole Lograsso and Jenn Davis combined for threestraight shutouts to lead the Jackrabbits to their first conference tournament title at any level. NCAA College Cup Contender The 2007 season marked the first year for SDSU as a member of The Summit League. In 2008, the Jackrabbits became a full Division I member, meaning they were finally eligible for NCAA postseason competition. And, in its first season of eligibility, Wedemeyer put his team in position to earn its first NCAA Tournament berth. After winning The Summit League regularseason title with a 7-1-0 record, the Jackrabbits won the conference tournament, earning a trip to the NCAA College Cup. In the first round, Wedemeyer’s team pulled off its biggest upset in program history, taking down then-No. 14, fourth-seeded Colorado, 1-0. The win generated national attention and buzz throughout South Dakota, culminating in Wedemeyer being tabbed as the Soccerbuzz.com runner-up coach of the year and the South Dakota Sportswriters Women’s College Coach of the Year. That season, Wedemeyer coached six Summit League all-conference selections, two all-newcomer team members, the Summit League’s Defensive Player of the Year and a CoSIDA Academic AllAmerican.

Outside of South Dakota State Wedemeyer’s involvement in soccer is not limited to SDSU. He serves as a National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Staff Coach and has traveled the country conducting coaching certification and running clinics over the past 20 years. Wedemeyer added another title to his list of coaching credentials. He served as a coach for the Olympic Development Program Region II teams in the 1987, 1990 and 1993 age groups, taking them on trips to Germany and Holland. In March 2010, he took the 1993 team to the Women’s International Algarve Tournament in Portugal. The team beat Ireland’s U17 National team, Sevilla’s women’s professional team and the women’s professional team from Benfica, Portugal. This team also beat Costa Rica’s U20 National team, which played in the U20 2010 World Cup in Germany. Before SDSU Before taking his current post, Wedemeyer was the director of coaching and women’s coordinator for the Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer Club. During his three-year tenure as the club’s assistant executive director, he oversaw all 28 teams and their coaches. One of the youngest coaches in America to obtain all levels of coaching certification, he holds nine professional soccer coaching licenses, including a United States Soccer Federation ‘A’ license and the NSCAA Premier diploma. While working on his master’s degree at Old Dominion, he served as an assistant coach for the men’s soccer team. Playing Career Wedemeyer began his collegiate career at Virginia Tech University, where he was voted as the Hokies’ best defensive player for two years in a row. He later transferred to Old Dominion, where he captained the team and earned second-team CoSIDA Academic AllAmerica honors in 1994. Wedemeyer also has extensive professional experience in the United Soccer League. He played three years for his hometown Roanoke Wrath before joining the Sioux Falls Spitfire at the beginning of the team’s first season in 2001.

Assistant Coaches Brock Thompson Assistant Coach University of Mary, ‘00 15th Season Coaching Ninth Season at SDSU

Veteran coach Brock Thompson joined the SDSU staff in 2008 and has helped build a program that has captured three regular-season Summit League titles, three league tournament titles and made two trips to the NCAA College Cup.Thompson and the Jackrabbits have 10-or-more wins in seven of the last eight seasons, including a program-best 15-5-1 in his first season. In 2008, Thompson helped SDSU captured its first Summit League regularseason and conference tournament championships and made its first appearance in the NCAA tournament. SDSU upset fourth-seeded, No. 14 Colorado, 1-0. Thompson joined the SDSU staff after compiling a 61-36-7 record over three seasons as head coach at University of Mary (2001-03) and three at North Dakota (2005-07). He led Mary to the NAIA Region III championship in 2002 and 2003, each time earning the Marauders a berth in the NAIA National Tournament. At North Dakota, Thompson was named the North Central Conference Coach of the Year after leading his squad to a 12-5-1 record and a berth in the 2005 NCAA Division II Tournament. He stepped down from his coaching post after the 2007 season to become UND’s director of compliance. A native of Blair, Neb., Thompson was a three-time team most valuable player for the University of Mary men’s soccer team and earned honorable mention allAmerica accolades as a senior. He was later inducted into the Mary Hall of Fame. After graduation, he became an assistant men’s soccer coach and served in that position until he was named the women’s soccer head coach in 2001. During his head coaching career at Mary, Thompson captured the 2002 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Midwest Senior College Coach of the Year Award. He left his alma mater in 2004 to become an assistant coach at Indiana State, where he earned a master’s degree in sport management. Thompson also has extensive coaching experience at the club and high school level. He won three state titles as the head girls’ soccer coach at Century High School in Bismarck, N.D., from 2000-04 and was the director of coaching for North Dakota Youth Soccer from 2002-04. He served as a regional staff coach for the Region II Olympic Development Program from 2003-05 and 2009-12. He is active in the local soccer community, serving as the technical director for Brookings FC. He also holds as a United States Soccer Federation ‘B’ license, National Soccer Coaches Association of America Premeir and Coerver Youth Diplomas.

Caylee Costello Graduate Assistant South Dakota State, ‘15 Second Season at SDSU

Caylee Costello began her tenure as the women’s soccer graduate assistant in 2015. She helps with coaching, recruiting, equipment and academic development of the Jackrabbits. Additionally, Costello holds her National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Diploma and Coerver Youth Diploma. A Sioux Falls, S.D. native, Costello also coaches club soccer for Brookings FC. She is the head coach for the U17 team and assistant coach for the U15 squad. Costello was a four-year letterwinner at South Dakota State, starting every game her junior and senior years at defensive midfield. During her senior year, she was named first-team All-Summit League and was one of the first two Jackrabbit soccer players to be named to The Summit League All-Academic Team. She also served as a volunteer coach for South Dakota State in 2014. Before becoming a Jackrabbit, Costello was a six-time state champion as a member of the Dakota Alliance and was a four-time all-state selection for Washington High School.

Nathan Moe Assistant AD - Strength and Conditioning B.S. Exercise Science: Moorhead State, ‘96 MEd. Exercise Physiology: University of Texas, ‘99

Nathan Moe enters his fifh year as assistant athletic director for strength and conditioning after joining the South Dakota State staff as the head strength and conditioning coach in August 2005. Moe works directly with the Jackrabbits volleyball and football teams, and oversees the design and implementation of the year-round strength and conditioning programs for the 21 varsity sports. Prior to joining the SDSU staff, Moe led the strength and conditioning program at Eastern Illinois University for three years, overseeing the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for its 22 varsity sports. Before he worked at Eastern Illinois, Moe was the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Rice University, working with the Owls’ football program and men’s and women’s track, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s swimming, women’s soccer and men’s golf. From 1997 through the spring of 1999, Moe was the graduate assistant in the strength and conditioning program at the University of Texas, earning a M.Ed. in exercise physiology. He also worked in private business in physical fitness in Austin and Houston, Texas, and in Fargo, N.D. A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a USA Weightlifting Certified Club Coach, Moe also maintains certifications in the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. In 2012, the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association honored Moe as a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach. A Minnesota native, Moe graduated from Moorhead State University in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He also earned all-conference honors as a linebacker for the 1995 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champion Dragons. Moe and his wife, Colleen, live in Brookings with their son, Zachary, and daughter, Kylie.

Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach B.A. Human Kinetics: Un. of British Columbia, ‘10 M.S. Sports Administration: Belmont, ‘13

Adam Parsons joined the staff as the assistant strength and conditioning coach the staff in November 2013, after working as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of North Dakota. Parson’s primary responsibilities include working directly with the soccer, wrestling and track and field teams and assisting with the other 18 varsity sports. In addition of UND, Parsons worked at Belmont University, Notre Dame, Tennessee State, Oregon State and Washington State. Parsons earned a bachelor’s degree in human kinetics from the University of British Columbia and a master’s degree in sport administration from Belmont University. He also earned certifications from the American Red Cross in first aid, CPR/AED, as a USA Weightlifting Certified Sports Performance Coach and a National Strength & Conditioning Association CSCS certification.

Sports Medicine Ben Heinze Assistant Athletic Trainer B.S. Exercise Science: Winona State University, ‘98 M.S. Athletic Training: South Dakota State, ‘00

Ben Heinze joined the South Dakota State Sports Medicine staff as an assistant athletic trainer in 2003, and worked in that role until accepting the assistant athletic director for sports medicine position in August 2015. In his role, he oversees the day-to-day operations of the sports medicine staff in both the HPER Center and Dykhouse Student-Athlete Center. As an assistant athletic trainer from 2003-15, Heinze worked in a number of different roles, working directly with the Jackrabbit women’s basketball and football teams before making the move to the soccer team in 2011. A La Crescent, Minn., native, Heinze earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Winona State University (Minn.) in 1998, and then moved to SDSU, where he added a master’s degree in sports science in 2000. After completing his master’s degree, Heinze spent two and a half years as the head athletic trainer at Franklin College in Franklin, Ind., and also worked at an athletic training clinic. He returned to South Dakota State during the 200304 academic year, working primarily with the Jackrabbits women’s basketball program. Along with experience with women’s basketball, Heinze worked closely with the SDSU football team and oversaw the sports medicine facilities at the Dykhouse Student-Athlete Center before working with the soccer team. Heinze lives in Brookings with his wife, Tara, son, Andrew, and daughter, Emily.

Member institutions include: Denver (University of Denver), Fort Wayne (Indiana University-Purdue University-Fort Wayne), IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis), North Dakota State University, Omaha (University of Nebraska Omaha), Oral Roberts University, the University of South Dakota, South Dakota State University and Western Illinois University. Previously known as the Mid-Continent Conference, The Summit League rebranded in 2007 and has since produced eight NCAA Champions, and over 80 Academic All-Americans, 75 All-America selections and numerous former student-athletes competing at the highest professional level. Each year, approximately 3,000 student-athletes continue to raise the bar and help The Summit League reach exceptional success and development. Within the past five years alone, The Summit League produced a national postseason team tournament championship and six NCAA Champions, accounting for more than half of its all-time total. That level of success also carries into the classroom. In 2015-16, The Summit League ranked first for NCAA Graduation Success Rate in women’s basketball for the second consecutive season and 14 teams across nine sports recorded perfect NCAA Academic Progress Rate scores. Those achievements came on the heels of recent prestigious individual academic honors such as the Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship, Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete of the Years and Capital One Academic All-America of the Year awarded to Summit League studentathletes. The Summit League also produces the highest quality in competition as evidenced by 2016 representation in the Rio Summer Olympics, National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), Major League Soccer (MLS), Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and Professional Golf Association (PGA). Within the past decade, The Summit League has … > Won a national team tournament championship and achieved a final national ranking in eight different sports. > Claimed NCAA Regional Championships in two sports and advanced in five additional NCAA team championship tournaments. > Had 101 teams receive NCAA Public Recognition Awards (among top 10 percent of Academic Progress Rate (APR) in their sport) since 2010. > Totaled 75 teams with maximum/perfect APR scores in the past four years. > Crowned eight of the league’s 10 NCAA Champions since 2007 and won five NCAA national championships and 11 NCAA statistical titles in the past five years.

HISTORY Since its inception in 1982, The Summit League recorded several transcendent moments that resonate on the national stage. While known as the Mid-Continent Conference, the league’s first two decades produced a pair of appearances in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament’s “Sweet 16” and the Women’s College World Series as well as three individual NCAA Track and Field Champions. Last season, South Dakota won The Summit League’s first national postseason team tournament title by claiming the WNIT crown in women’s basketball. Oral Roberts gave The Summit League its initial baseball regional crown and Super Regional appearance in 2006 and three years later, North Dakota State became the league’s first softball team to achieve the same feat. The 2008-09 season also saw South Dakota State’s women’s basketball team carry a national ranking throughout a majority of the year and cap its season with an NCAA Tournament first round victory. In 2014, North Dakota State gained the national spotlight with a victory in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Round of 64. In 2014-15, North Dakota State finished in the national Top 25 softball rankings, one of six league teams to achieve a national ranking in their respective sport that year. Throughout its history, The Summit League has produced 10 NCAA Championships, three Olympic medalists and numerous All-Americans in the sports of track and field, swimming and diving and cross country. Several professional athletes and draft choices have come directly from The Summit League, including three Major League Baseball first round picks, a pair of NBA first round choices, and two WNBA selections. In addition, Summit Leaguers compete in the MLS, and on the PGA and LPGA Tours. Former Summit Leaguer Kevin Duckworth (NBA) was a two-time all-star during his professional career. To coincide with The Summit League’s 30th Anniversary Season in 2011-12, the league released a list of its Top 30 Distinguished Contributors from the Division I era as selected by a panel of voters from member schools and the media. Four individual NCAA champions and three Olympic medalists along with four NBA players and two World Series Champions headlined The Summit League’s list of top student-athletes, coaches and administrators that was the jewel of the anniversary celebration.

The 2008 squad enjoyed the most successful season in program history to date. The Jacks captured their first Summit League regular season crown, finishing league play with a 7-1-0 record. SDSU then won its first Summit League tournament championship, defeating Oakland, 1-0, in the finals to earn its first NCAA tournament berth. The Jackrabbits upset Colorado, 1-0, before falling to Minnesota, 2-0. 42

Welcome to South Dakota State University South Dakota State University (SDSU) is the state’s largest, most comprehensive university. As South Dakota’s 1862 Morrill Act land-grant university, SDSU had a fall 2014 enrollment of 12,557 students from all 50 states and 79 countries. Approximately 67 percent of SDSU students are residents of South Dakota, 29 percent are from other states and 4 percent from other countries. The university provides a rich academic experience in an environment of inclusion and access through inspired, student-centered education, creative activities and research, innovation and engagement. SDSU comprises Colleges of Agriculture and Biological Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Education and Human Sciences, University College, Nursing, Pharmacy, the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering, the Van D. and Barbara B. Fishback Honors College and the Graduate School. The American Association of University Professors categorizes SDSU as a Category 1 or doctoral-level institution. The university has been designated an Innovation and Economic Prosperity University by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and its Commission on Innovation, Competitiveness and Economic Prosperity is a major resource for the economic development needs of the state. Over the last five years, university research has yielded 195 invention disclosures, 79 patents filed, 9 patents issued and 47 license agreements executed through the Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization, resulting in more than $12 million in license revenue. SDSU Extension, with eight Regional Extension Centers across the state, is South Dakota’s source for objective, vetted and relevant new knowledge generated through research. There are two theories as to how and why the Jackrabbit nickname evolved. The most common belief is that the name “Jackrabbits” came from a story and cartoon sketch that appeared in a Minneapolis newspaper following a 1905 football game between the University of Minnesota and South Dakota State College, as the university was then known. A reporter for the newspaper, knowing of the preponderance of jackrabbits in the Brookings area, was believed to have written that the SDSC team was as quick as jackrabbits. Many people believe that the school adopted the Jackrabbits as its official nickname from that beginning. The other theory about the origin of the nickname is given in The Jackrabbit, SDSU’s yearbook. There is a poem in the 1907 yearbook that puts forth the idea that the yearbook is called The Jackrabbit because a group of juniors wished to immortalize themselves by changing the name of the yearbook. Athletic teams followed suit, adopting the nickname. Prior to the adoption of the Jackrabbit nickname, school athletic teams were known as the Barn Yard Cadets as SDSU was known as South Dakota State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in 1907.

Administration Barry H. Dunn

President, South Dakota State University South Dakota State University, ‘75

Barry H. Dunn was named the 20th president of South Dakota State University in April 2016, the fourth alumnus chosen to lead the institution. He took office in May 2016. Dunn received a bachelor’s degree in biology at SDSU in 1975 and subsequently completed two graduate degrees in animal science—a master’s in 1977 and a Ph.D. in in 2000—at the Brookings campus. He became the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council endowed dean of the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences in 2010. He also served as director of SDSU Extension and as a professor of animal science. As dean, Dunn led a college with some 550 faculty and staff, 2,800 graduate and undergraduate students, and a $78 million annual budget, including more than $20 million in grant and contract awards, fundraising and development. He shaped the academic and strategic direction of eight departments, spanning 18 degree programs, one regional research and outreach center, six research field stations and 14,500 acres of Agricultural Experiment Station research land. As Extension director, Dunn administered and set the vision for five program areas across two colleges and nine departments, as well as eight regional extension centers with a $12 million annual budget. He led a team

of some 150 faculty and staff members and 3,500 adult volunteers. Prior to that, Dunn spent six years at Texas A&M University-Kingsville from 2004 to 2010, as executive director of the King Ranch Institute for Range Management. He first worked in Brookings as an Extension livestock specialist and as an assistant professor in SDSU’s Department of Animal and Range Science from 1997 to 2004. From 1979 to 1996, Dunn was a successful rancher, managing his family’s cattle ranch in Mission. In 2015, he was appointed to the South Dakota Habitat Conservation Fund by Gov. Dennis Daugaard, and to the Governor’s Pheasant Work Group in 2014. He served as an ex officio member of the ag advisory board for the First Dakota National Bank, Yankton from 2011 to 2016, and was a member of the board of directors for Padlock Ranch, Dayton, Wyoming, from 2009 to 2016. Dunn has a rich academic background, was a successful rancher and farm operator and is a published author and researcher. He is a nationally recognized expert in beef production and ranching systems, and is a member of several professional organizations, including the Society for Range Management, the American Society of Animal Science, and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. He has a deep historical and cultural knowledge of South Dakota and South Dakota State University, and strong, statewide relationships with industry influencers and stakeholders, including government officials, business leaders, university administration, faculty and staff. He lives with his wife, Jane Dunn, on her family’s original homestead north of Brookings, where they raised their two sons, Thomas and Michael.

Learfield Sports quickly established a Brookings-based entity known as “Jackrabbit Sports Properties” that directs all aspects of the partnership, including managing and selling multimedia and sponsorship rights for South Dakota State Athletics. In addition to the deal with Learfield Sports, Sell directed the implementation of the Letterwinners Club, which provides opportunities for Jackrabbit Athletics to reconnect and stay connected with former studentathletes, while supporting current student-athletes at South Dakota State. In the years to come, Sell wants to continue reconnecting with former Jackrabbit student-athletes and enhancing the athletic facilities while still maintaining success, both in competition, but more importantly, in the classroom. On the facilities front, Sell oversaw the completion of the Dykhouse Student-Athlete Center in 2010, and developed the 2025 SDSU Athletic Facilities Master Plan. Additionally, Sell spearheaded efforts to add permanent seating and a press box at Erv Huether Field, chairback seating in both Frost Arena and Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. Construction of the indoor facility—the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex—began in August 2013, and finished in the fall of 2014. Lead gifts totaling $12.5 million toward the construction of the new Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, with seating up to 20,000 were received in October 2013. The project began in the fall of 2014, with completion set for the summer of 2016. In total, Sell spearheaded the fundraising efforts to raise more than $57 million in private donations since Aug. 1, 2012, for the Sanford-Jackrabbit Complex and Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. Born in Salem, Ore., and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Sell came to South Dakota State from the University of Northern Iowa, where he worked in various roles, both at the university and in the community for 10 years. He also worked at Villanova University, Syracuse University, The Ohio State University and Bowling Green State University. Sell gained further experience working in the private sector for various sports teams and events. Sell earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) in 1991 and completed a master’s degree in physical education/sport administration at The Ohio State University in 1992. Sell and his wife, Jennie, have four children; Abbie, Zach, Josh and Eric.

Athletic Director, South Dakota State University Bowling Green University, ‘91 Justin Sell joined the Jackrabbit staff May 7, 2009, as the 12th director of athletics at South Dakota State University. Sell oversees the Jackrabbits’ 21-sport Division I athletics program. Eighteen SDSU teams compete in The Summit League, while football competes in the Missouri Valley Football Conference of the Football Championship Subdivision and wrestling competes as a member of the Big 12 Conference. Equestrian competes under the umbrella of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association. Under Sell’s leadership, SDSU athletics continues to make strides in athletic competition, in the classroom, in fundraising and in reconnecting with alumni. Athletically, the Jackrabbits claimed 27 regular and postseason league championships in six different sports since 2009-10.That broad-based success has led SDSU to claim The Summit League Commissioner’s Cup all-sports trophy four times (2010-11, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16), along with winning both The Summit League’s Dr. William Steinbrecher Men’s AllSports Award and Dr. Helen Smiley Women’s All-Sports Award during the 2013-14 season. SDSU also claimed the Steinbrecher award during the 2012-13 and 2015-16 seasons and earned the league’s Sportsmanship Award, an award voted upon by its peers, during the 2010-11 campaign. In the classroom, Jackrabbit student-athletes continually post a GPA of 3.2-or-higher in more than 70 different majors, which led SDSU to winning The Summit League’s Institutional Academic Achievement Award for the 2009-10 and 2012-13 academic years and the Missouri Valley Football Conference Academic Award in all eight years in the league (2008-15). Credentials: All requests for media credentials for SDSU home soccer matches should be directed to the South Dakota State sports information department at least 24 hours prior to the event. Credentials will be mailed if requests are received a week or more in advance. Otherwise, credentials may be picked up at the Jackrabbit Ticket Office inside the Stanley J. Marshall Center weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or at the Fishback Soccer Park ticket table one hour prior to the start of the event. Due to limited seating, only working media will be allowed access on a first-come, first-served basis. The following guidelines apply specifically to Internet sites: • No more than two people working for the official Web site of the opponent and/or its official conference site will be issued credentials. • Web sites whose content centers around message boards and chat rooms where users can post anonymous information and/or rumors are ineligible for any consideration for credentials or access. • Credentials will not be granted to any agency operating sites that are in any way affiliated with gambling, or to freelance or fan-based sites that are not affiliated with a legitimate news-gathering organization. The final decision for credentials remains at the sole discretion of the South Dakota State sports information department. Statistics: The South Dakota State sports information office will keep official statistics and will distribute final statistics to teams and members of the media after the conclusion of a game. On the Web: The latest Jackrabbit news and updates can be viewed on the Internet at www. GoJacks.com, the official site of South Dakota State University athletics. Box scores, statistics and a game recap will be posted following the conclusion of a contest. Interview Policy: Outside of athletics events, interviews with South Dakota State University student-athletes must be arranged 24 hours in advance Monday through Thursday by contacting the SDSU sports information office or the head coach of the sport involved. Please do not contact the student-athlete directly without prior approval. Phone numbers of SDSU studentathletes will not be released. Media members should understand that all return calls will be made collect or via a toll-free number, unless the student-athlete does the interview from the sports information office. Student-athletes will not be available for interviews prior to a contest the day of a game, but will be available for postgame interviews 10 minutes after the conclusion of contests by contacting a member of the sports information staff or coaching staff.
