LARGE SCALE PROJECTS

CHASE STREET
For this project, I redesigned a large industrial off of Chase Street in Athens, Georgia to a multi-use live, workcommunity. The site also was to serve as stop of a future rail line connecting Athens to Atlanta. This project helped me develop spatial relations to surroundings and features on the existing site. Large modern industrial buildings occupied most of the built space on the site, but some remains of old industrial mill buildings existed in disrepair next to the railroad tracks. I made it my goal to keep the old buildings and reuse them in the best way I could. The old mill buildings were to be converted into small to medium size retail and a rail station.
Aerial Photo of Existing Site
To make this site a focal point for the local and surrounding community, I integrated retail and grocery stores into the site. Besides functioning as a rail station for the commuter rail line, the site would also be place where people could do most of their shopping. The people from surrounding neighborhoods could easily walk to the site where they could recreate, shop, or wait for a train. Apart from the services provided on the site, living quarters would also be available in the on-site apartments and single family residential housing. The site is conviently located to downtown Athens and would make for a great place to live.

MOSS HOLLOW
a conservation subdivision located a few miles northwest of downtown Athens, Georgia
I was challeged with designing a conservation subdivision within an existing forty year old subdivision. The property was mostly wooded and featured a small lake. I designed the subdivision so that every property has access to the lake directly or across the street. The common areas can serve many purposes such as walking, fishing, and general recreation. SETTLEMENT ON SUNSET
an infill development in Athens, Georgia
Located on the intersection of Oglethorpe and Sunset on an old undeveloped block in Athens, Georgia, the infill development provides affordable housing in an older neighborhood. The scale of the houses and style is that of the existing neighborhood. Street traffic and existing tree canopy were two items I took into great consideration in the design process. LUMPKIN WOODS
Lumpkin Woods is one of the only undeveloped, natural pieces of land on the University of Georgia's campus. It is disected by studetns every day while on their way to class or back to the dorms. I was challenged to design a sculpture park that would fit into Lumpkin Woods. The sculpture park had to have some theme relating to current ecological issues. I chose to design a sculpture park about the finite oil reserves our world offers. The sculptures were designed to promote awareness about this subject to students passing through the site.

LYNDON HOUSE
28
a regional garden for the Lyndon House Arts Center
Inspirations for regional patterns For this project, I had to design a regional garden for the Lyndon House Arts Center. My design was based on regional patterns straight out of the piedmont region of Georgia. The regional garden provides patrons of the arts center a place to gather, recreate, and relax outside. Various parts of the garden represent different landscapes of the piedmont of Georgia. Area for childern to play is also included alongside a shaded pavilion built in the architecture of a covered bridge.

MINI GOLF
32
a themed mini golf course built on an old industrial lot in Athens, Georgia
I designed a mini golf course to fit in an old industrial lot just east of downtown along the railroad tracks. The course was to be themed around the legendary comic book hero Captain America. My target audience was college students and locals both young and old.
The course layout followed the chronological history of the comic book character from his beginning to now.

WILLIS RESIDENCE
I was hired to design a staircase that connected the second floor of the garage to ground level. The staircase was to be constructed with cedar to match some of the architectural features of the house. Designing these stairs was similar to designing a deck but with more focus on grade change. Other factors that I had to take into consideration were door openings, air conditioner unit location, and comfort. During this experience, I learned more about construction techniques, how to design for the client, and how to communicate with the builder. The stairs were built according to my plans and few changes were made by the contractor during construction. Above left) Construction details for post and footer locations. A R T W O R K
For as long as I can remember, I have been drawing and creating artwork. Most of my artwork shows my personal interests such as history and music. I won first place in the Georgia High School Drawing Competition in 2006 with my self portrait of me and my banjo. This award included a $20,000 scholarship to Savannah College of Art and Design. Jack Ritchie, Host & DJ of Bluegrass Junction 90.5 FM WUOG Athens One of my interests is Bluegrass music. In January 2008, I began hosting and deejaying Bluegrass Junction, a show I started at WUOG: the University of Georgia's student-run radio station. Since then, it has been one of the most successful specialty shows at WUOG and receives listeners from around the nation. In 2010, I was recognized by the Bluegrass Legacy as "Who's Who in Bluegrass Music-Media" and my show has been listed in the magazine Bluegrass Unlimited. Since becoming a DJ, I now have over 180 hours of DJ experience and over 90 episodes of Bluegrass Junction to date.
