Board Member Spotlight Jeffery Head, Vice President, BancorpSouth Q WHAT ARE YOUR AREAS OF EXPERTISE? A: Commercial Lending Q: WHAT ARE YOUR OTHER INTERESTS? A: Fishing and being with my children Q: WHY DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED WITH THE CHAMBER? A: Originally I became involved with the chamber as an Emissary. A friend of mine, Michael Prichard, invited me to be an emissary. If memory serves that was back in May of 2003. I quickly realized how serving as an emissary could benefit my business. I also used that relationship to get my name out in the business community. It gave me opportunities to meet people and business owners that I would normally not have a chance to meet. That is what being a part of the chamber is all about, making connections with other members to not only improve your business but to see how you can help improve theirs.

Q: WHAT IS THE CHAMBER’S ROLE IN THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY? A: The chamber is there to help businesses connect with other businesses. That’s it in a nutshell. A business can’t simply join the chamber and hope that their business will grow. You have to put forth some effort to attend chamber sponsored events and utilize various networking opportunities provided by the chamber. The biggest mistake a company can make is joining the chamber and not putting forth any effort to make their business better. I tell folks it’s like joining a gym and expecting to get healthy by not going and working out. It simply doesn’t work. You must be involved.

Q: WHY DO YOU SERVE ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS? A: I was asked to continue on the chamber Board after my one year term as Vice President of Leadership Jackson Alumni Association. I come with the unique perspective of being a volunteer as a chamber emissary. It is interesting to find out what other chamber members think about their membership. I believe they are more willing to discuss any issues with a volunteer or member than with a chamber employee.

XMC, Inc. Celebrates 20th Anniversary Xerox authorized agent grows to largest in the Southeast

When Bob Hamilton started selling office equipment in 1975 at Tom Lawler’s Office Outfitters , he had no idea that years later he would start a company that would become the leading Xerox distributor in the Southeast and second leading distributor in the nation. In 1992, Hamilton opened the first XMC office in Memphis and had one employee, Ben McCaghren, who later became a partner. Today, XMC has 60-70 employees and ten offices offices throughout the Southeast providing service to areas in six states: Tennessee, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama. “When I think about our 20th anniversary, I am reminded of how grateful I am for our customers and staff,” said Hamilton. “Our employees make it possible, consistently delivering high-quality technical support in conjunction with a genuine passion for customer service. Our customers have loyally supported us during these 20 years and we will always be thankful for our relationships with each of them.” Hamilton’s efforts have led to many successes with the Xerox Corporation. XMC was nominated for the small business award from the Memphis Business Journal and has won numerous national awards for their performance including the Xerox Gold Award of Excellence, President’s Club and Superior Service Award. Xerox has also recognized Hamilton and XMC for its outstanding achievements by naming them a Platinum Agency. XMC has also been awarded “Super Star Performer” status by the Xerox Corporation, an award which recognizes superior performance and leadership among sales and services of Xerox products. Only four out of 400 agencies receive this designation. “Such an accomplishment has been made possible by XMC’s commitment to quality service and a uniquely personal approach to how XMC provides such services to clients,” Hamilton said. “These awards underscore our commitment to delivering document technology and services that help our customers improve and simplify the way they do business.” To celebrate the anniversary, employees made a gift in Hamilton’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. St. Jude is a cause close to Hamilton’s heart and the company supports the hospital each year.

Get Connected With: Hadley’s Company name: Hadley’s Address: 1410 Union University Drive Jackson, TN Phone Number: 731-300-0955 Website: www.hadleysrestaurant.com Chamber Connection: What’s new with your organization? Hadley’s: Pretty much everything with us is ‘new’ in that we’re a brand new concept in the restaurant business. We’re trying to get in the Fast-Food and Home meal replacement niche, with emphasis on southern favorites, such as slawburgers, cornbread bowls, dill-dipped chicken, bbq’d bologna, etc. Chamber Connection: What’s helped your organization become successful in our community? Hadley’s: It might be too early to say at this point we have been successful, but we are diligently seeking ways, not only through charities and school programs, to make Jackson and West Tennessee a better place to live because we’re here! Chamber Connection: What does your organization do that most people don’t know about? Hadley’s: We’re trying to start up a catering service for area industries and retailers. This is one area we need to develop, and let people know it’s coming! Chamber Connection: What are some recent successes your organization has experienced? Hadley’s: We’ve put together a better menu selection after our initial opening, primarily with regard to ‘plates’ (fish, chicken, etc.), and a value menu. Obviously, as new as we are there will be more additions and changes to come, and we’re working hard to act on the feedback we’ve gotten from our customers. Chamber Connection: Do you have any community projects you are involved in? Hadley’s: We are trying to become very active in some of our local charities, and are also developing a school program to reward kids for good grades. For example, we supplied the calendars for The Hope Center, and are also donating 10 percent of our December sales to the Jackson Salvation Army.
