Chamber Honors Renshaw With Reception A reception was held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 to honor Judy Renshaw, former Senior Vice President, Business & Community Services with the Jackson Chamber. After 38 years with the chamber, Renshaw announced in December that she is stepping down from her full-time position to move to a part-time position. Around 150 people showed up for the breakfast reception at the chamber and waited to have a moment to thank Renshaw for her years of service and dedication. “The chamber has provided many opportunities to grow during my 38+ years,” Renshaw said. “Working in every position, except industrial development, I have had the opportunity to see our community from multiple lenses. Being involved in an organization that has the respect of the community and is a driver for positive change has been fascinating to watch and be engaged.” Renshaw will now serve as the Executive Director, Leadership Jackson, and will oversee all aspects of the leadership program. “Leadership Jackson and Leadership University have done more than any other program to better prepare individuals for various leadership positions in our community,” said Kyle Spurgeon, President/CEO, Jackson Chamber. “She will continue to lead and play a vital role with our leadership program, Leadership Jackson.” If you wish to contact Renshaw, you can email her at jrenshaw@jacksontn.com or call at (731) 423-2200.

Cancer Patients and Families Get Gift of Hope During the Holidays
After nearly four years in the making, the Alice and Carl Kirkland Cancer Center will begin treating patients in its new 82,000 square foot state-of –the-art facility on Monday, December 16. To celebrate this milestone, West Tennessee Healthcare, in conjunction with the Jackson Chamber, held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday, December 12. At the heart of the three-story center are the patients it will serve. “We were very strategic and intentional in every detail of this project to insure that everything about this building is designed around the patient and the patient experience. Patients were included in focus groups on various aspects of the center such as the types of chairs used in treatment areas,” said Catherine Kwasigroh, Vice President of Hospital Services for West Tennessee Healthcare. “The Kirkland Cancer Center provides the same level of care received in a hospital environment but delivers it in a spa like environment. We utilized the Disney concept of keeping ABOVE: The Alice and Carl support and staff work areas behind the scenes to minimize the impact on the patient experience.” Kirkland Cancer Center held “This building by itself will not save lives-but it will make it possible for the many people who work here to save lives, change its ribbon cutting ceremony in lives and offer a better quality of life. The fear, anxiety, discomfort and uncertainty experienced by cancer patients will be met with December. hope, serenity, leading-edge medical treatment, guidance and support,” said Gina Myracle, Executive Director of the Kirkland Cancer Center. As the Center’s staff and family members play a large role in the patient’s experience, their needs were also considered in the design. “Working with cancer patients takes special people and many see it as a calling that they take very seriously, “said Myracle. “Family members are often here for every visit so we wanted their experiences to be positive as well. We added lots of little extras like Wi-Fi, rocking guest chairs in treatment areas and amenities in personal patient dressing rooms to make family members more comfortable.” To read more about the Alice and Carl Kirkland Cancer Center, visit its website by clicking here.
West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation Announces New Record The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation announces exceeding its goal for Million Dollar Monday. Since its beginning in 1984, the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation has worked to improve the quality of life and health of those living in Jackson and West Tennessee. With very humble beginnings, the Foundation’s first project was to provide a new type of technology called a “Life Line” unit where the elderly and those with limited mobility could alert authorities in case of an emergency. From this first project, the Foundation has grown to become a leader in charitable causes and support. Today the Foundation provides charitable support to nearly 500 “funds” that add to the quality of life of the Jackson and West Tennessee communities. Monday, December 30, 2013 was set aside as “Million Dollar Monday.” On this date a goal was set to exceed $1 million in contributions for the months of November and December. The Foundation worked to raise more than $1 million to benefit the many good causes the Foundation supports. To date “Million Dollar Monday” has exceeded more than $1.11 million. To achieve this goal, the Foundation had several fundraising efforts. The Charity Gala in November was one of the most successful. The “Christmas Challenge” provided matching gifts to encourage giving in honor or memory of loved ones. “To encourage gifts during this special season of giving, we made $100,000 available in matching funds,” said Harbert Alexander, Foundation board chair. “One way to support good causes is to give to the causes that our donors support. We were delighted to provide the Christmas Challenge to encourage people to give more and to honor a loved one with their gift.” “During this season of the year we find that people are very generous. Charitable giving options enable major donors to give now to the Foundation with donors making the presentation to nonprofits at a later date. Donor Advised funds allow donors to maximize their charitable deductions and meet their charitable commitments at a later point,” stated Dr. Tim Crossett, board member and a user of the Donor Advised Fund program. “It is nice to see the amazing amount of financial support the good people around Jackson provide for the worthy causes in our community. If you were to look at total charitable giving in the Jackson area, I am sure we exceed what other communities of our size give to their respective causes,” said Frank McMeen, President of the West Tennessee Foundation. “We are working closely with attorneys and accountants to help their clients achieve needed tax benefits,” said Dave Bratcher, Vice President of the Foundation. “We help make gifts of property and appreciated assets easy for the donor, their accountant and attorney.”
