Leadership Jackson Alumni Association Spotlight Carrie-Brown Campbell, Board Member, Leadership Jackson Alumni Association Company: University School of Jackson Job Title: Director of Alumni Relations and Assistant to Head of School Q: Why did you choose to help with the Leadership Jackson Alumni Association? A: I loved being a member of Leadership Jackson’s class of 2013, and I wanted to continue to be a part of this amazing program! It was an incredible experience with incredible people. Not only did our class learn leadership skills to carry into our work environments and our daily lives, we formed bonds with one another that are unexplainable. I wanted to be a part of LJAA because I know, first hand, how important this program is to Jackson. Through this program, I know that Jackson can be an even better place to live! Q: What are you looking forward to this year with the new class? A: I am looking forward to seeing some new faces, eager to learn and serve in our community! Q: What was the most important piece of information that you learned during your Leadership Jackson experience? A: Jackson is just a really great place to be. I have lived here my entire life, and I learned something new about this great community every week. There are countless opportunities to serve others within our community, and countless ways to be involved. I have a renewed sense of ownership and pride for my community!
Q: What advice would you give the upcoming class? A: Be excited! You are about to learn so much. Oh, and don’t be nervous if you don’t know anyone in your class. The strangers that you get on the bus with on your way to the retreat will become some of your closest friends. Q: What was your favorite memory from Leadership Jackson? A: It’s hard to recall just one favorite memory from Leadership Jackson. The retreat was so much fun! Overall, though, I think it would have to be just getting to know my classmates and learning with and from them each week. Q: If you could describe Leadership Jackson in one word, what would it be? A: Encouraging—it is encouraging to learn so many positive things about our city. It is encouraging to know that you can help our community continue to improve. It is encouraging to see a group of people eager to acquire the tools to do so.

West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation Celebrates Anniversary With Campaign
The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation is celebrating the start of its 30th year with a new look! Foundation President Frank McMeen held a news conference recently to roll out a new media campaign that includes a new logo and a plan to make the Foundation more regional, with fundraising efforts that reach out state wide. McMeen says, “Our new logo with a tree symbol signifies that our Foundation is growing to meet the need while branching out into communities across the state. We have reached a milestone with 30 years of service and hope the next 30 years bring even more prosperity to the Foundation and its many charitable funds. We are so excited about the record of charitable giving the Foundation has been able to achieve and even more excited about the future.” According to a statement released at the news conference yesterday, the Foundation has exceeded $28 million in assets, has 530 community funds and has received more than $58 million in donations over the last 30 years. More than $25 million has been given back to the community into a wide variety of programs over this time period. Some of the Foundation’s present funds include: Camp Bluebird, a Veterans Cemetery, the Therapy and Learning Center, the Reinbow Riding Academy Hippotherapy program, the Children’s Medical Care Fund, Hospice of West Tennessee and the Kirkland Cancer Center. The Foundation started in 1984 with a project to fund “Lifeline” which is a service to help elderly and those people with limited mobility notify authorities in case of an emergency. Examples of the Foundation’s outreach growth include its partnerships with the Tennessee Dental Association Foundation and the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities (APTA), which has chapters across the state. “We hope there will be no limits to growth of the Foundation outside West Tennessee as we continue to spread the word with our new logo and marketing campaign,” said Harbert Alexander, Jr., Chair of the Foundation Board of Trustees. Endowments can be established to ensure a cause is supported in perpetuity, providing an on-going income stream to good cause. Funds can be established to provide annual support for needy causes at the Foundation. Contributions to both of these efforts are tax-deductible and allow the donor to receive the greatest taxable benefit. To find out more about establishing a fund or endowment or a fund already established, email Frank McMeen at Frank.McMeen@wth.org or call the Foundation office at 731-984-2140. Visit their new web site at wthfoundation.org.

Member Spotlight: HORNE LLP
Company name: HORNE LLP Address: 26 Security Drive Jackson, TN 38305 Phone Number: 731-668-8444 About HORNE LLP: HORNE is one of the top 50 accounting and business advisory firms in the country. With offices in Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama and Texas, the firm focuses in health care, construction, financial institutions, franchise, government services, public and middle market, and wealth advisory. Website: hornellp.com Chamber Connection: What’s helped your organization become successful in our community? HORNE: Our local communities are at the heart of our mission and vision as a firm, and we have a passionate commitment to serving and giving back. HORNE has always invested in the talent of our people and works to be a really great place to work in each of our 12 locations. We are always evolving to meet the needs of our team members. In addition to tackling flexibility, we are also focusing on every team member feeling a sense of belonging at HORNE. Chamber Connection: What does your organization do that most people don’t know about? HORNE: HORNE has offices across the Southeast, but we are much more than a traditional tax and audit firm. We focus in seven distinct industries to give clients depth of experience and resources. Those industries are health care, financial institutions, franchise, construction, public and middle markets, government services and wealth advisory. Chamber Connection: What are some recent successes your organization has experienced? HORNE: HORNE’s summer and spring intern classes were top notch. In the accounting industry, internships are really big deal, and HORNE wins the best and brightest talent year after year, but this year’s class was awesome. Chamber Connection: What’s new with your organization? HORNE: One of the most exciting things at HORNE right now is our commitment to evolving how we work. We have been an industry known for very long, inflexible hours. HORNE is working to change that for our team members. What’s so neat about that is the entire firm collaborated to write a flexibility philosophy and now we are learning how to live it. Chamber Connection: What’s the biggest community project you’re working on right now? HORNE: HORNE recently kicked off its annual Summer of Service program which sends more than 500 team members out into their local communities (across Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana and Texas) to participate in various service projects. Every team member gets paid to go work a day in their community rather than in the office. I think HORNE’s Summer of Service reflects the commitment and passion the firm has for the local people and communities we serve. Last year, HORNE donated more than 2,500 hours of community service to 25 different organizations. Chamber Connection: What are some of the future goals of your organization? HORNE: One of our ongoing, primary goals is excellence in client service. We want to be a place that people love to work, but we know that won’t matter if we don’t take care of our clients first. So, even as we work to create flexibility and other team-focused enhancements in our culture, our goal is to exceed our clients’ expectations. Chamber Connection: What challenges does your organization face? HORNE: One of the challenges at HORNE, and in the accounting industry overall, is the coming people drought. Baby boomers are retiring at a rate faster than we can develop their successors. There’s a lot of opportunity for younger team members who are ready to step up and lead. Chamber Connection: Are there any things we didn’t ask that you would like to share? HORNE: It’s a really exciting time to be at HORNE. Most people don’t think of accounting firms as exciting, but it is here. There’s a lot of positive energy and younger team members are being encouraged to take leadership roles (regardless of title or seniority).
