END OF MIDTERMS
THE FINAL JUNK HALL PAVILION WAS A RESPONSE TO TWO MAJOR IDEAS. THE FIRST WAS AN SITE SPECIFIC RESPONSE TO THE AREA AND THE SECOND WAS A RESPONSE TO THE URBAN CONDITION OF THE CITY AND ITS ARCHITECTURE.

DENSITY DISTRIBUTION THE PREVIOUS GESTURE MODELS WERE A RESPONSE TO THE EMBARCADERO’S OVERALL DENSITY OF ACTIVITIES. HERE I BEGIN TO PROPOSE AND SHIFT THE DENSITY OF EMBARCADERO TO THE DEAD AREA ALONG GREEN, JOHN MAHER AND UNION STREET.

THE NEXT MODEL IS A MORE EXTRUDED VERSION OF THE PERVIOUS MODEL. SPACES CAN NOW BE OCCUPIED UNDER AND ON THE PUBLIC SPACE (WHICH IS NOW COVERED IN CLIPBOARD, WHILE THE MESH REPRESENTS SOFT SPACE LIKE GRASS). THE VOIDS AND ABOVE THE PUBLIC SPACE WILL HOUSE THE PAVILION.

PROGRAM INDEPENDENCY 1
JUNK HALL PAVILION NEEDS TO ACCOMMODATE SPACES FOR CHANGING PROGRAMS: THE JUNK HALL DISPLAY SPACE AND THE FREE CHINA JUNK EXHIBIT SPACE. BUT ON A GRANDER SCALE, CITIES ARE RAPIDLY CHANGING AND ITS ARCHITECTURE ARE LAGGING BEHIND. SPACES FOR BUILDINGS CAN NOT ACCOMMODATE THE CHANGING CITY WITHOUT DRASTIC ACTIONS LIKE DEMOLITION AND REBUILDING. I PROPOSE THAT THE JUNK HALL PAVILION CONSISTS OF INDEPENDENT SPACES AND PROGRAMS THAT DOES NOT RELY ON OTHER SPACES TO FUNCTION.

A CIRCULATORY SYSTEM CONNECTS ALL OF THE GIVEN PROGRAMS AND SPACES, WHICH ALLOWS PEOPLE TO ACCESS EACH PROGRAM INDEPENDENTLY. FOR EXAMPLE, IF ALL PROGRAMS EXCEPT THE THEATER WERE CLOSED, THE THEATER CAN BE ACCESSED INDEPENDENTLY. PEOPLE CAN GAIN ACCESS TO EACH PROGRAM WITHOUT HAVING TO ENTER THROUGH THE MAIN ENTRANCE.
