CATBURGLAR
board game design
Project Brief Student must create style guide and packaging for a board game. The demographic is focused on children ages 7 and up.
Research Popular styles focused at children tend to bold contrasting colors and cartoonish characters. This game needs to include a system that can be expanded to elements such as cards, dice, packaging, and figurines.
Solution In order to create a board game for a kid, one must remember what it was like to be a kid. The night time was always a source of wonder and being sneaky was like an achievement when you could get away with something innocent such as taking an extra cookie out of the cookie jar. This project was meant to let the childs mind play and learn consequences through whether or not they were caught. Using cards and dice to give the game a random outcome adds to the amount of control one experiences as a child and adds elements such as gems and innocent looking figurines to accomplish this.
MEOWINGTONS website redesign
Project Brief
Student must choose a website to redesign and promote a service that would help with the overall customer experience.
Research Meowingtons is a company that donates a portion of its proceeds to shelter cats. They have fun elements in their website but they don’t really have a structure to how the page looks or flows. Something that is popular now days is auto shipping and it something I personally use through Chewy.com.
Solution Unlike my previous web project, SIDESHOW, I wanted to let this company have more character and show a more playful side of web design. I used images and colors to promote the products and give a since of excitement and trust while going scrolling through the website.
MARAE
restaurant branding
Project Brief
Choose a country and brand a restaurant based on it’s culture.
Research The country that I had chosen was New Zealand and I decided to focus on the Māori. These are the indigenous Polynesian people of New Zealand. Māori originated with settlers from eastern Polynesia, who arrived in New Zealand somewhere between 1320 and 1350. The Māori have remarkable craftsmanship when it comes to wood carving and use it for almost everything in their society. I decided to base my branding around the Marae, which is a communal or sacred place that serves religious and social purposes and even a place where the entire tribe comes together to eat.
Solution Marae is branded with the idea of family, community and camaraderie. The logo is centered on the haka, the dance performed by the haka, a ceremonial dance or challenge in Māori culture.
SIDESHOW
website redesign
Project Brief
Student must choose a website to redesign and create a full length checkout experience.
Research SIDESHOW prides itself in the quality of its miniature craft and how they represent nerds everywhere through their work. Their primary focus is sculpting superheros and letting their small figurines stand tall amongst their competitors due to the quality and their dedication through their work.
Solution This project presented it’s challenges through learning how to create an interface that responds to user feedback. Things to consider and reflect on were thinking of the potential customer and how to carry them through the website from point A, to point B and all the way to point C.
EA ANNUAL REPORT page layout design
Project Brief
Create an book showcasing a company’s yearly report to shareholders, documenting its activities and finances in the previous financial year.
Research Electronic Arts is famous for games and the stories they tell. The project must include elements of clean sophistication with fun bold colors of their brand.
Solution Since games tend to be linear it made sense to include a line to pull you from text to graphics. The type hierarchy is setup in a way that it directs you to the next page and gives you since of movement as you read through it. Since the book has many colorful pages I wanted the cover to be sleek and professional with just a window showing the colors underneath.
ROCK N ROLL SUSHI website redesign
Project Brief
Choose a restaurant that is located in Hattiesburg and create a website that showcases their menu items and brand.
Research Rock N Roll Sushi is a quirky restaurant that uses rock n roll to promote their brand. Naming their sushi after rock stars and famous songs, this restaurant is cool and a real standout compared to other sushi places.
Solution The website needs to have the same energy as the restaurant. I used guitar like shapes to pull the user down and guitar pick shapes to point out important information such as their menu items and catering. I wanted this website to be just like visiting one of their establishments where you find yourself rocking out with the music they idolize.
DIMSUM
food truck branding
Project Brief Create an identity and packaging system for a food truck that accurately represents the food culture of the students selected country.
Research Dim sum means, “to touch the heart. It is typically served to small or large groups of people and it is very popular for tourists to try while in China. The beginnings of this type of food began when people traveling on the silk road would stop for yum cha (to drink tea). Over time the shops that only sold the tea started to add on food and catering to larger groups. I wanted my demographic to be high schoolers and college students because students often travel in groups on campus.
Solution Since my demographic is students I decided the best way to reach them visually was to approach this brand as if I was branding a sports team. I wanted to base the look on martial arts to relate back to china and to give the idea of motion, action and bravery. I use red to stimulate the mind and give it an energetic feel to relate it to sports and exercising, and I chose red for the courage and passion one has for sports.
