LITTLE EXPLORERS Students must create a style guide and conceptualize packaging for a board game. The demographic is focused on children aged seven and up. Popular games for kids consist of bold colors or illustrations to attract a younger audience.
For the game to appeal to kids, it must contain a sense of adventure. For the project, a jungle theme worked best. Many kids love to search and discover. The game allows them to travel through obstacles to achieve the treasure.
DIA SOL Students must create a restaurant campaign centered on a foreign country. This includes a look book of the restaurant’s design. Extensive research on the country’s culture must be applied to the design. If one does not know the culture, it will not be designed or represented well. Portugal is known for being the brightest and sunniest country, and it has an abundance of mosaic tiles. For this reason, bright colors were applied to the design, and sharp forms were created to represent tiles.
S K AT E B O A R D Students must design a skateboard centered around a major issue within society. Students were also given a list of artists to mimic a certain style. The skateboard is focused around ocean pollution and the effects humanity has on the environment. Flat tones are a common pattern within Michael Schwab’s work. Thus the project utilizes bold areas of color, while still using shadows. Before designing, one must be wary of the skateboard’s format. Since the theme is pollution, a bottle is stretched across the skateboard’s surface. It encases a dead whale, which has ingested more plastic items. The skull not only symbolizes death, but humanity.
TOSCA Students must design a four pack within a chosen art style or era. The project is designed within the Art Nouveau period and the beverage is Ginger Ale. Art Nouveau is known for its elegant, organic patterns and designs. Within Alphonse Mucha’s work, it often displays botanical motifs with natural colors. Also, Tosca is an opera centered around romance and jealousy. Using the theme of love, the project utilizes decorative floral designs similar to Art Nouveau. The red signifies passion and the light coloring helps support the Ginger Ale brand.
INFOGRAPHIC Students are required to choose any topic and design an infographic, which will interpret the information visually to the public. The infographic centers around the effects of anxiety on young adults through college. Anxiety can cause various symptoms: vertigo, insomnia, shaking, etc. Many designs emit these symptoms with visual elements. Since anxiety can cause lack of sleep, the poster uses a vertigo affect by utilizing halftone and layering. It also uses dark, dreary colors to match the feeling of anxiety or sleep.
E-COMMERCE SITE Students must redesign an e-commerce site of their choosing and create media ads for the selected site. Look Human is a site that sells pop-cultured designs. It also changes design based on seasons or holidays. Whimsical illustrations match the site’s pop-cultured merchandise and attract the audience. The project uses natural colors to display the fall season and the logo is merged within the illustrations to match the theme.
A N N UA L R E P O RT Students were required to design an annual report centered around a company. A list of companies were given to the class for students to choose from. The project focuses on the Timberland company. Timberland shoes are about hiking and the outdoors. The company also helps with the environment by planting trees with every purchase. Timberland statistics also had to be searched. The die-cut creates interaction with the audience, and the layout of the project uses slim images for a clean visual approach. The colors are more organic, and the graphs display the information clearly and visually.

HANAMI Students must create a style guide and conceptualize packaging for a foodtruck. Each student must choose a specific culture to center the foodtruck around. The project focuses on Japanese culture and Tokyo nightlife. Bento resembles the box shape of the foodtruck and Hanami is a spring festival that celebrates the cherry blossoms. A rabbit symbolizes the beginning of spring. The bold, bright colors mimic the nightlife of Tokyo and the sleek, rigid letter forms resemble Japanese design. The pattern resembles the rising sun from the Japanese flag.
