andscape for Learning is a K-12 campus that reclaims asphalt parking lots to produce a protected courtyard within an urban landscape.
The orientation of the campus aligns with a historic neighborhood along a tree covered pedestrian pathway to connect visually with the San Antonio Riverwalk. A collaborative proposal by graduate students: Jacob Dale, Sophia KarbachMorales, and Melisa Speck.

The proposed facility acquires wastewater from a municipality and uses it as nutrient medium for the production of Algae Bio Diesel within a photobioreactor process. Through photosyntheses algae sequesters carbon from the atmosphere. This proposal attempts to break the energy/water nexus by utilizing ‘blackwater’ and abundant sunshine to provide a renewable fuel source at the point of consumption on an international trucking route.

olar pavilion/ farmer’s market is A design proposal for a roof structure that responds to the high desert climatic conditions of Marfa, TX.
SOLAR PAVILLION (2 of 2)
a cassegrain solar collector harnesses energy by concentrating direct sunlight onto a heat transfer conduit. An ammonia or emulsified salt solution can be passed through this structure to a heat transfer station where the energy can be stored and used to regulate temperature in municipal structures during cold nights. The structure doubles as a pavilion that can be used as a covered outdoor public events space. The community will be reminded of their collective investment in the pavilion, as it shades them from direct sunlight and provides a cool place to host farmer’s markets and local food trucks.

SITE DISCOVERY
SKETCH MODEL
esigner’s were challenged to select an underutilized existing building or urban lot and propose an adaptive re-use of the site. A narrow lot 30’ x 130’ flanked by two tall corporate hotels was selected in downtown San Antonio. Merchant Bridge proposes a transition between an economically vibrant river-level pedestrian environment, known as ‘The Riverwalk’, to a bustling streetlevel pedestrian environment with limited commercial opportunity. Merchant stalls of 10’x 20’ are made available as an economic bridge for retail startups.
MERCHANT BRIDGE (2 of 2)
The scale of these proposed tenant spaces exists in intentional contrast to an existing largescale ‘corporate’ development model.

ATELIER ADJAYE (1 of 2)
telier Adjaye is born of David Adjaye’s close ties with and inspiration drawn from the fine arts. The charge for this project was to research a ‘starcitect’, their work, and design process, in designing a personalized studio.
An art studio and a drawing studio intersect to produce a dynamic creative space. Large amounts of glazing on the North of the building serve to fill the space with natural light. The drawing studio provides a personal retreat for19|20 Adjaye from a busy international career.
ATELIER ADJAYE (2 of 2)
The art studio allows space for creative expression and the potential to work one-on-one with aspiring young designers and artists of the dis-advantaged West San Antonio neighborhood, where the studio is proposed.

PHOTOS COURTESY OF CLIENT VARIOUS PROJECTS
hen complete in Spring of 2014, The ‘zootennial’ restaurant will serve as an anchor to an $8 million dollar plaza to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the San Antonio Zoo. Beginning in 2011, I directly assisted Don Seidel R.A. in all phases of design and documentation of this building. The two of us attended weekly meetings with the Zoo Director, Staff, Landscape Architect, Contractor, and other consultants to assure that every detail of the project was addressed.
SEIDEL + ASSOCIATES (2 of 3)
In addition to preparation of construction documents, My personal responsibility on this project was to source, illustrate, and specify all finish materials for the building.

wo young doctors found that their residence in an upscale neighborhood did not have adequate storage facilties for their four vehicles. minimally sized garage door openings did not allow for convenient entry and exit. maximizing the garage entry to double-width glazed doors allowed for ease of entry, abundance of natural light, and the ability to securely showcase all four of the owners vehicles.

ith a life-long interest in environmental stewardship and how the built environment could contribute, in 2004 i discovered that University of TexasAustin was building a prototype less than a mile from my home. through the next year i volunteered my carpentry and logistical experience (gained through the staging industry).
SOLAR DECATHLON 2005 (2 of 2)
as a daily participant in the construction of the building, I Was invited to be part of the team to travel to Washington, D.C. and reassemble the house on the National Mall for international competition. The passion and dedication i shared with the talented team of graduate students and professors on the team solidified my desire to pursue a career as an architect in harmony with our planet.
