Yuma Residence

A new addition to an existing home in Phoenix provides a couple with a new connected living experience with uniquely framed aperatures.

This addition to the existing house built in the mid 1950’s wraps alongside the house, perpendicular to the existing structure. By integrating the existing garage port, the square footage of the home is doubled with a new, refined set of materials.

Hotel rennovated to generate assisted living facility. Project Status : In Progress Project Year : 2019 Client : Montroy DeMarco Location : White Plains, NY

A 2BR 971 SF

As an existing hotel, this project aimed to convert the building into a set of assisted living units. Set in White Plains, NY, this rennovation of an existing building required extensive survey work. Without access to the existing buildings, I was tasked with redrawing the existing conditions of the building through the use of the set of 1960’s construction documents, scans of the existing condition, and survey photos. This was to prepare a set of demolition drawings, as well as a proposed set of drawings to show the developer a unit layout strategy within the existing condition.

Waterfront Brooklyn theater to engage developing community. Project Status : Educational Project Year : 2018 Team : Jacob Gulinson + Ian Lee + Will Anderson + Becky Greenberg Location : Brooklyn, NY

A plan for a new theater in Brooklyn, this theater flips the program on its head. By elevating the theater space to a cantilevered auditorium, the ground plane becomes a new space for public engagement. As a result, the public of Brooklyn is engaged newly with the waterfront through this through-building access, as well as through the repositioning of the building on site. Comprised of a large 750 person auditorium, 200 person blackbox, and four venue spaces, this theater responds to its largest cantilever movement by providing opportunity at each level for the public and participants to explore the views towards Manhattan and the architecture of the building itself.

Lakehouse

Project Status : Educational Project Year : 2020 Team : Jacob Gulinson + Dalton Baker + Jack Lynch Location : Upstate New York

Located on a lake in Upstate New York, this home on a lake exemplifies a series of imagined realities - viewing a still home that appears to float beyond the land and onto the water of the lake itself. Built around a single boulder, the home continues to insert landscape within its volume. Volume inside of volume, the residents preside within the glass, and sleep within the cladded volumes, always engaged with the landscape.

24

With a design inspired by a series of perspectival sketches, this lakehouse is comprised of refined volumes floating above a lake in Upstate New York.

Dan barber says cooking does not take place in the kitchen, it takes place in the landscape. Where Dan barber sees the kitchen as the expression of the landscape, this institution melds this continuum of food and adds in a few missing ingredients across disciplines focused in the pursuit of sustainable alternative foods.

The cross-disciplinary environment of the research lab is housed in the re-imagination of an existing building as an ecosystem through which the scientist, chef, and farmer work to change the future of food.

The structures of the labs for both growing and experimentation on food are housed within the existing building of the Foundry. This warehouse type now functions as a membrane to the exterior environment, functioning to control the input of the exterior environment on the series of interior environments generated within.

The project aims to revitalize a city restricted by its lack of access to a rich food network with a new centralized hub. This model aims to trace the lineage of a tomato through the new network, abstracting the architecture to the performance of the systems within.

Flexible Aquaculture A floating network of living and researching spaces for Barrier Island rehabilitation, the aquaculture of oysters and the commercial fishing industry.

This network provides a new first line of defense for the Louisiana coast that redistributes along the coastal path, responding to the changing needs over time for housing, oyster aquaculture and ecological labs at the location of each Barrier Island.

The project is imagined as a space for multiple species; bacteria, oysters, and humans are in an equal playing field. The materiality of the barges provides new inhabitation for these players, as well as an opportunity to engage with the ocean in which the barges resides. These radial graphs aim to highlight the bacteria found in humans and oysters, creating a multispecies bacterial microbiome.

42

As a government funded farming Co-op, this network provides a new system of oyster farming using advanced methods of growing, harvesting and selling oysters in order to help fishermen who are directly impacted by climate change and human built infrastructure along the Mississippi River basin. This system works on different scales of temporarily, eventually leaving a healthy ecology and a new breakwater habitat before the network retreats closer to land.

Ocular Armatures

In the South Bronx, this multifamily housing project extends its two towers towards cardinal viewpoints, engaging the community in the shelter created below. These armatures aim to capture and question what it means to see, and to be seen. Architecture and the idea of an oculus are historically intertwined. From classical examples of the oculus, the dome of the Pantheon and others alike represent a tension architects have considered between the natural elements and the internal condition of a building. The use of the oculus has always questions this interplay of the natural and the architectural. An ocular lens questions what it means to see and to be seen. Brought forth to today, the question of the position of the body relative to its environment remains. This housing project explores the question of sight in the South Bronx.
