LETTER OF INTENT I still remember that little boy, sitting down on the floor playing with his Lego bricks. He loved to show his creativity by taking these pieces and creating his own models. He was passionate about designing cities out of these Lego blocks. He wanted to do more than just, replicate the simple and easy steps that came with the instruction manual. As he grew older his passion for design grew even more. He started looking at buildings in a different way, always trying to figure out what made each particular structure so unique. Most people only see buildings, but they don’t actually take the time to analyze them. For this boy it was very different, he was curious about the materials used to construct a building, its shape, and how the lighting affected the way we perceived it. He knew that his future lay in construction, but he also knew he had a talent for design, so he decided to become an architect. This young man is very sensitive to the structures that surround him; he believes that there is no greater satisfaction than to design a building that people will interact with. This boy gets chills of excitement every time he thinks about the fact that, some day, he too will be able to design a place where people can actually live, that he will be able to influence those people’s lives by his creation. This boy is me. These memories portray my life-long passion for both the critical study and creative art of architecture. I am sure that UNM’s School of Architecture will be essential in helping me to fulfill my dream of becoming a successful architect. This portfolio reflects my talent for design, and my strong desire to become and architect.

F OU N TA I N OF DREAMS Materials: Colored paper and metal pins. Dimensions: 5.5in X 12in Description: This fountain is made out of three main squares; between the first and second, and the second and the third there is a column holding each of the structures. At the tip of this fountain there is a orange prism also made out of paper, and from there the blue strips representing water come out.

A QUA R A MA Materials: Cerial boxes, styrofoam plates, and stones. Dimensions: 9in X 11in Description: The model is a floating aquarium that has the shape of an abstract fish. It floats like an island over the water. The whole body of this fish is covered by scales of different colors that will shine magnificently once the sun beam touches them. At the left side of this structure there is a small entrance that will let you inside this splendid building.

C A N D E LA Materials: Colored cardstock. Dimensions: 7in X 11in Description: The name “Candela� means flame in Spanish, the inspiration for this model were the colors and power of fire. This light fixture is divided into three main circles. The whole structure is made up by cardstock tubes of three different colors. All of these tubes are the same length.

HUMANITIES BUILDING Materials: Pencil on paper. Dimensions: 8.5in X 11in Description: The Humanities Building caught my attention since the beginning. While I was sketching this structure I noticed it is majorly made out of squares and rectangles. Some of these seem to be sticking out of the building while others seem to sink behind.

INTERIOR PERSPECTIV E Materials: Pencil on paper. Dimensions: 18in X 24in Description: This is an interior perspective of George Pearl Hall. The objective of this assignment was apply the theories of vanishing point, horizon line, and station point. It was very important to understand the terms proportion and scale.

G E A OR G E P E A RL HALL COLLAGE Materials: Magazine pieces on a Crescent board. Dimensions: 18in X 24in Description: For this assignment we did a collage of a specific spot of George Pearl Hall. We learned collage techniques and how tu use the color pallet. we also learned how to use a variety of appropriate textures and tones.

METAMORPHOSIS Materials: Pencil on paper. Dimensions: 18in X 24in Description: I always like to be creative and for that reason I chose morph my pair of pliers into a lobster instead of using an insect like most of the people did. For this assignment I learned how to convert visual and spatial information into graphic form. I developed mechanical drafting skills, and understood the principles of orthographic projection.

I SAU R A Materials: Basswood Dimensions: 15in X 15in X 2in With this model I am trying to show the essence of the city of Isaura. I believe that the most important things in this city are the wells. For this reason my model is full of sticks of different sizes and widths that represent the wells. There are two depressions full of wells and in the middle there is a path were people can walk and admire the beauty of these wells. There is also a plane that sticks out into one of the depressions where people can decide to walk through there. At the middle of this plane there is a well that goes through the plane and up into the sky. I did this because I want that well to stand out from the rest, because for me this specific well represents a tribute to the Gods, who are very important to the people of Isaura. Besides the wells I didn’t want to add anything else, because I think there is a beauty in simplicity. With this model I wanted to convey the idea that this city is moving upward.

D I N N E R F OR TWO Materials: Plaster, artificial flowers, and glass. Dimensions: 30in X 8in Description: The purpose of this assignment was to cast the negative space inside objects using plaster. My theme was a romantic evening at a restaurant. I casted four different objects: a flower vase, a champagne bottle, two champagne glasses, and two plates.

SPLASH! Materials: Toothpicks, and wooden base. Dimensions: 15in X 12in Description: Inspired by the Japanese Koi fish this sculpture although it is static, it still has the appearance or impression of dynamic movement. This piece is made out of 4,250 toothpicks. This piece shows a Koi fish spitting at a lotus flower.

P E A C E F U L G I RAFFES Materials: Cardboard, and tissue paper. Dimensions: 13in X 18in Description: For This project we were supposed to build two objects out of cardboard and paper. The objects needed to have a cardboard interior structure, and a paper superficial structure. My inspiration for this project came from the pictures and documentaries I have seen of giraffes and how they entangle their necks up.

THE BLUE HAND Materials: Wire, and blue plastic wrap. Dimensions: 6ft X 3ft For this project we needed to do a site specific installation.Tthe hand is emerging from the ground, it shows a deep connection between the site and the installation. It looks as if the hand was taking a huge pile of dirt in order to feel it.
