The City Scope is a walk-in shelter designed as a catalyst for the Market Hall Renovation Project. The CityScope is built with three planar units: L-shaped structures that intersect with each other to create a flexible space and provide structual support. As a monumental folly, the CityScope highlights the exploration of Pittsburgh grounds. Soaring 30 feet tall, the Central piston captures an image of the downtown area by reflecting the city down to the pedestrians at ground level. at 10 feet, the shortest piston becomes a cantelivered balcony, estabilishing a space where inhabitants can rest and take in the river and the strip district.
