The Teahouse is one of the three programmed buildings on this sloped site in Cambridge, Ontario. Ultimately this is a residence for two students living in Cambridge and was designed with two main programmed spaces within: A meditationyoga room and a curated common area.

With The Teahouse, its main purpose is to provide the teas and herbs for the designated areas within the building. Teas that are perfect for detoxing after yoga, post or even during study sessions in the common area, and for relaxing in the courtyard of the terrace spaces.

The Jenga block parti created open and private terrace spaces throughout the building for a more organic mass to be placed upon the slope.

The Carved

The proposal for this project was to replace the existing bridge along the Sherman Falls section of the Bruce Trail on the West side of Hamilton. The Carved Overpass was designed to capture a moment in the center of the bridge to view the falls.

With its punched out designs of the railings and walls, light and wind can pass through the bridge freely.

As you walk through the bridge, the canopy acts like a threshold to advertise circulation and to experience the moment at the center of the bridge.

The Northside

Located on the outskirts of Cairns in Queensland, Australia is the Northside Oasis. Designed for two individuals with a residential and communal space joined by an L-Shaped walkway. This L-Shaped home’s orientation combats the hot and humid climate in Cairns by maximizing the cross-ventilation.

The Northside Oasis features a functional yard created by the unique hallway; the glass sliding doors in the hallway act as a threshold to separate the interior to the exterior space. This provides an intuitive way to go in and out of the building and simultaneously expands the communal space of the building, creating the idea of an urban oasis.

Located just South of the Don Valley river in Toronto, Ontario, this library’s main program is its communal garden for flower arrangements. People of all ages may gather in a knowledgeable space to grow as individuals and have the opportunity to learn flower arranging within the same building. The Growing and Sprouting Library is subdivided into two programs: Flower arranging and the actual library space.

The Flower arranging is located near the back of the library, closer to the park and translates vertically to the rooftop.Within the Library there are also two sunken spaces located in each programmed area.

The Cambridge

Longitudinal Section Render

This project, located in Cambridge, Ontario, addresses the issue of city-wide housing unaffordability for a broad community of residents, primarily catering to the students and elderly populations, but not excluding the general public. The Cambridge Stairway encourages socialization notwithstanding the age differences between the demographic parties.

This building features three commercial programmes on the ground floor: a walkin clinic and street health services along Wellington Street. These programmed areas cater to the public and offer counselling services to people of all ages, whether they live within or outside the home.

On the ground floor is the main courtyard and outdoor space which is located in the center void of the building. The purpose of the courtyard is to promote intergenerational bonding between residents in a healing place. With minimal sunlight throughout the day, it helps create an intimate and more sheltered space for moments such as socializing and gathering to happen.

Street Services

For the senior demographic, it was key to keep these health services available and close in proximity for these residents. Similarly with the counseling services, this can apply to everyone to prioritize their mental health, especially students.

Additional Works

A Physical and Abstract Pavilion Model adapted from Anni Albers Design for Wall Hanging 1926 Gouache painting. Using the painting as a reference and built downwards, carrying the vertical and horizontal patterns to the different levels of the model. Through this project, I was able to develop my sense of architectural scale and respond to the scale of the human body, sensory perception, and spatial sequence.

Professional Work - Wild Rye

I participated in the initial-beginning design stages, and alongside my colleagues, we created massing iterations in physical and digital form. We also performed case studies to create a satisfactory massing to move forward in the design process. We brainstormed ways to create experiential moments from afar and within the cafe and bakery.
