As we approach our fifth JAD Sale, we would like to begin by sincerely thanking everyone who has supported our program to date - everyone who has purchased or been an underbidder at one of our sales or throughout the year, everyone who has attended a sale, visited us throughout the year, engaged with us over the phone or online, welcomed us into their homes... thank you VERY much.
As we ponder where JAD and the Speckle Park breed will be in another five years from now, we are confident that our breeding decisions so far have put us in good stead to prepare our stud for the future. Our stud is hugely diverse in genetics, giving us a solid foundation from which to breed new sires and use them within. We have embraced independent assessment of our animals, inching forward each year as measured not just by the percentage of animals that ‘make the grade’, but more importantly the percentage that sit right at the top of the tree. In this catalogue, 11 bulls scored a seven out of eight for structure, as determined by wellrenowned independent beef consultant, Dick Whale. At our first sale, we were stoked because we had but one bull reach that elusive high grade.
As we steam towards our fifth JAD Sale, we are launching two new initiatives to assist clients:

JAD Speckle Park is one of very few studs that carry a five-star Breedplan Completeness of Performance rating. Although we put a lot of emphasis on Breedplan and data, our core fundamental benchmarks are with the utmost importance placed on temperament, feet and legs, scrotal, and udder quality. We are about breeding for longevity - encompassing fertility - to ensure commercial relevance for us and our clients. All bulls and purebred heifers in the sale have scored either a 1 or 2 for docility, and we are proud of this offering.
We would like to acknowlegde the tremendous influence of the McKenzie family of Maungahina Stud, New Zealand, on our herd. Their sires heavily feature in this catalogue, and they stand out. Thank you!

Our 2021-drop of cattle were weaned at approximately 5-7 months old. They received weaner pellets as part of the weaning process and were grown out on pasture, and only supplemented when pasture quality was waning. We aim to have our bulls grow out at between 0.8-1.3kg/day their entire lives. The cattle are now in peak health, with rumens in great balance to handle whatever pasture conditions they encounter at their new home. The cattle have been handled with dogs, UTVs, motorcycles, and on foot. None of the cattle have ever had their feet trimmed in any way. We will NEVER hoof trim our cattle to mask faults. Never ever.
Herd Health:
Some animals in the catalogue have minor pinkeye scarring, not deemed detrimental to their functionality. We strongly recommend annual animal health booster shots.

Under the Johnes Beef Assurance Score (J-BAS) system, JAD Speckle Park carries a J-BAS 6.
The JAD Guarantee:
Every bull is guaranteed to be a breeder at the time of sale and is guaranteed fertile for 6 months from sale day. If a bull should prove infertile or unable to serve cows naturally, the vendor will either:
1) Provide a satisfactory replacement, or
2) Provide a cash refund equal to the purchase value of the bull less salvage value. No credits provided. It is the purchaser’s responsibility to provide a certificate from a registered veterinarian before the 6 months is up to verify infertility, and that it was not the result of an illness, injury, or misadventure. The guarantee covers the purchase value of the bull, without interest, costs and damages. We recommend that all purchasers discuss injury insurance of their purchases at the sale with the on-site representatives or their agent. This guarantee is in addition to the normal terms and conditions governing auction sales. All females will be confirmed pregnant by Dr Hennie Strydom, Wellington Veterinary Hospital. A pregnancy certificate will be supplied to all purchasers of females at the sale. A pregnancy confirmation does not guarantee that a healthy, live calf will be born. In the event that a purebred female aborts her calf or fails to birth a live, healthy calf, JAD Speckle Park will provide two straws of semen from the JAD LN Tank, free of charge and for within-herd use only. It is the purchaser’s responsibility to collect/transport this semen.

All bulls offered have passed a crushside semen evaluation, carried out by Dr Stuart Geard and Jodie Mohr of Holbrook Breeders Australia, or Dr Hennie Strydom of Wellington Veterinary Hospital. Females:
The reproductive tract of all purebred females has been checked by Dr Stuart Geard, Holbrook Breeders. JAD Speckle Park is committed to only ever sell purebred females that have passed this physical examination. A letter confirming this examination will be supplied to all purchasers.
Raw Data:
Fat and muscle scanning, and scrotal circumferences were measured on November 17, 2022, by Roger Evans, Bovine Scanning Services Pty Ltd, Tamworth, when the animals were 13-16 months old. This data was submitted to Breedplan for the registered animals, and is published in this catalogue for the commercial bulls (pages 64-76).

All bulls and purebred females have been fully DNA tested at Neogen Australasia, with results published:

JAD Speckle Park was the first Australasian Speckle Park stud to undertake DNA testing specifically for economicallyimportant beef production traits, including leptin. All purebred lots have their Leptin test results published.
Leptin TT is the preferred genotype - TT cattle will show improved carcase traits over CC cattle, with CT cattle being somewhere in the middle. Cattle inherit one copy of the gene from their dam, and one copy from their sire. This means that if you have a TT bull, the calves can only be either CT or TT, as he only passes down one T allele.
Leptin is a mammalian hormone with the primary function of decreasing appetite - it is known as the ‘appetite gene’. Leptin TTs have an overall increased rate of fat accumulation compared to leptin CC. For Leptin TTs, this mainly results in:
▶ Increased weaning weight
▶ Increased cow productive life due to increased body condition
▶ Increased milk production
▶ Increased 12th rib backfat
▶ Impacts yield grade and marbling

JAD Speckle Park will take care of and pay for ownership transfers of registered lots on behalf of the purchaser. SPI Registration Transfer Forms will be submitted to SPI within one month’s completion of the sale.
All of the sale animals have been screened for temperament and are quiet to handle under normal circumstances. However, there are inherent risks with cattle handling. VISITORS ENTER THE CATTLE PENS AT THEIR OWN RISK. CHILDREN/PRAMS MUST NOT ENTER THE PENS.
People entering the yards are at risk of injury. Be especially alert to bulls fighting. We do not expect the bulls to be aggressive with humans, but sale day places extraordinary pressure on them as they experience an entirely foreign environment. Do not crowd the bulls or loiter inside the pens.
On arrival at their new home it is important a suitable mob of animals (eg: pregnant cows, steers) is yarded to greet the new animal(s), to minimise stress on them. The bulls are in good joining condition at point of sale, but it is imperative to ensure good nutrition for the bull during the joining period. You should check the bulls regularly to see they are working, especially in the first three weeks of joining when the majority of problems occur. Watch for any signs of injury, infection (any high temperature can compromise bull semen quality) or possible serving dysfunction. Early detection of any problems can minimise the impact of the quality of service your bull provides, and conception rates.
It is important to understand how Speckle Park colour patterns work in order to achieve your breeding goals. While some breeders are mostly interested in producing speckled cattle, others want to inject the notorious hybrid vigour of Speckle Park, while retaining predominantly black herds. For example, when a solid black Speckle Park bull is joined with 100% purebred Angus cows, the resulting calves will be solid black. Another example is when Angus cows are joined to a white Speckle Park bull, the resulting calves will be predominately speckled.
Speckle Park cattle have four distinct colour patterns; speckled, leopard, white pointed and solid black. The speckle and leopard colour pattern are genetically the same except for varying degrees of spotting. Some Speckle Park cattle can produce red colour patterns if both parents carry the recessive red gene.
Please remember when dealing with nature individual results will vary. The guide is just that – a guide – and Mother Nature has the final say.
The different components affecting whether carcases meet MSA compliance specifications are all influenced to some extent by genetics and can be improved through the selection of animals with appropriate genetics.
Dark meat colour (ie. over an AUSMEAT score of 3), commonly referred to as ‘dark cutting; is associated with low muscle glycogen levels in the live animal prior to slaughter, thus resulting in an unappealing product for consumers. Similarly, if there is only a small amount of muscle glycogen present pre-slaughter, pH may not decline to the required level. Maintaining glycogen levels pre-slaughter is consequently of utmost importance and can be achieved by minimising stress and/or activity both on-farm and in the lead up to slaughter. Cattle with poor temperament have an adverse effect on the cattle around them, all of which results in higher pH carcases and a higher incidence of dark cutting. Selection for improved temperament can be achieved by ensuring that all animals used in a breeding program have acceptable temperament.
Further, research has demonstrated that animals with higher muscle content, as defined by size of carcase eye muscle area (EMA) adjusted for hot standard carcase weight, is strongly associated with reduced incidence of dark cutting. A reduction in the incidence of dark cutting in high muscled cattle also complements the other advantages of muscular cattle, such as increased retail beef yield and processing efficiency. Selection for increased muscle content in a standard weight carcase can be achieved by selection of animals with higher EMA EBVs. EMA EBVs are estimates of the genetic differences between animals in eye muscle area at the 12/13th rib site in a standard weight steer carcase, with higher EBVs associated with larger eye muscle area. For example, an animal with an EMA EBV of +1.7 mm would be expected to produce calves with larger eye muscle area than an animal with an EMA EBV of +0.1 mm, relative to carcase weight.
Rib fat thickness is the measured depth of subcutaneous fat over the quartered rib site between the 5th and 13th ribs. A covering of fat is needed to protect the high value primal cuts from rapid chilling, which can cause toughening, and to enhance eating quality and appearance. In addition to minimum fat levels, a key requirement for all beef markets is to have adequate cover over the high-value cuts along the loin (back) and rump. MSA requires carcases to have adequate fat coverage over all major primals, with an area of inadequate fat distribution not being greater than 10cm x 10cm over each individual primal. Selection for adequate rib fat and fat distribution can be achieved by selection of animals with appropriate Rib and Rump Fat EBVs. Rib and Rump Fat EBVs are estimates of the genetic differences between animals in fat depth at the 12/13th rib and P8 rump site respectively in a standard weight steer carcase, with higher EBVs associated with greater fat depth. For example, an animal with a Rib Fat EBV of +1.3 mm would be expected to produce calves with more fat than an animal with a Rib Fat EBV of -0.5 mm, relative to carcase weight.
Whilst many of the factors that affect the eating quality of a carcase and its suitability for MSA programs are heavily influenced by animal handling and management, many factors are also influenced by the genetics of an animal. Selection of animals with acceptable temperament, higher Eye Muscle Area EBVs and appropriate Rib & Rump Fat EBVs can improve MSA compliance, whilst selection of animals with higher IMF EBVs to increase marbling score, higher Growth EBVs to reduce ossification score, higher Rib Fat EBVs to increase carcase fatness and higher Carcase Weight EBVs to increase HSCW at the same maturity, will increase MSA Index values and thus increase the eating quality of your herd. Brian Leslie is one of the most renowned and highly regarded dairy auctioneers in the world, and he has been the Guest Auctioneer at all JAD Speckle Park sales to date. We saw Brian sell at the 2017 Melbourne Royal Show Speckle Park Feature Sale and were thoroughly impressed by his ability to recall pedigree information, sell with clarity and fairness, and the overall atmosphere he created.
Brian has been auctioneering for the past 40+ years, specialising in dairy cattle. He has sold ALL of the recordpriced dairy cattle of each breed, including the highest priced dairy animal ever in Australia at $251,000 at International Dairy Week (IDW) in 2018. He has sold in each state of Australia and New Zealand for several decades. Although mainly dairy, Brian has sold at the famous Lawson, Te Mania and Weeran Angus sales for 30+ years.
He is a partner with family in Leslie Farms (Pooley Bridge Holsteins) at Arcadia near Shepparton, VIC, that have won Premier Breeder/ Exhibitor of IDW no less than 13 times, along with over 30 Champions including Grand Champion Cow three times. Brian’s cattle have won many Grand Champions at Melbourne Royal and he has sold animals to several countries, including the national record producer of Japan.
Dick Whale from Independent Marketing and Breeding Services (IBMS) is JAD Speckle Park’s ongoing independent beef consultant, assessing our animals for structure and temperament. He uses a combination of the Genetic Type Summary (GTS) and Beef Class Structural Assessment System to score each phenotype trait.
All sale animals catalogued were considered acceptable for soundness, muscling, doing ability, docility and more. These scores can be found with each lot description in this catalogue. JAD Speckle Park places a very high degree of importance on structural soundness and temperament. Dick will be present on sale day to assist clients with their selections. We travel to Canada and New Zealand regularly to get to know the different breeders and their breeding programs, to see genetic lines in the flesh, and to select our “picks” to infuse into our herd through extensive ET and AI programs.
All bulls are semen tested, reproductive organs are examined in all bulls and purebred females, and all purebreds are independently assessed for structural soundness and temperament.

Structural problems and temperament in cattle have a substantial effect on both the reproductive and growth performance of a beef herd. It is widely recognised that structural problems in sires have detrimental effects on conception rates, calving patterns and thus profitability. Similarly, females with inadequate structural characteristics are more prone to weaning lighter calves or conceiving later in the breeding season than their more functional counterparts. These structural problems are filtered through the supply chain resulting in reduced income for the producer, feedlot and overall industry productivity.
Dick Whale assesses our sale cattle at least twice in their life before sale day. Having our cattle independently assessed assists us to make unbiased decisions around culling for structure and temperament. Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) published in this catalogue are from the February 2023 GROUP BREEDPLAN run. Below is a description for each EBV and how to apply the information practically:
EBV FOR BIRTH WEIGHT (BWT)
Birth weight is a major factor in calving difficulty. Use EBVs to select against birth weight if dystocia is a problem. The lower the EBV the lighter the calves are expected to be.
EBVS FOR 200-DAY GROWTH AND MILK
Vealer producers should place emphasis on the 200-day growth and milk genes. If the bull is to be used as a terminal sire, growth is most important. If a bull is to used to breed replacement heifers, and superior milking and mothering ability is required, then consider the milk genes with the EBV for milk (kg). The estimate in kg milk is not the yield of milk of the dam, but the growth of the calf due to more milk and better mothering of the dam. At JAD Speckle Park, we submit two 200-day weights for improved accuracy of this EBV.
EBV FOR 400-DAY WEIGHT
400-day weight EBVs are a measure of the animal’s ability to grow to 400-days-of age (can be measured from 301-500 days). It should be used by producers who wish to turn off yearling cattle. At JAD Speckle Park, we submit two 400-day weights for improved accuracy of this EBV.
EBV FOR 600-DAY WEIGHT
600-day EBVs are computed for growth to 600-days-of-age (can be measured at 501-900 days). It is the best prediction
of an animal’s ability to grow onto maturity, hence it is important for the heavy steer producer.
These traits are calculated from live scan data and are adjusted to a standard steer carcase weight of 300kg.
Measured in millimetres at either 12/13 rib or P8 sites. As these EBVs increase, the progeny can be expected to fatten more easily but carcase yield may decline.
The percentage of retail cuts compared to total carcase weight. Related to EMA and Fat Depth and Weight EBVs.
The percentage of fat to muscle in the eye muscle. Used as a more precise measure than Marbling Score.
EBVs are relative to the breed average EBV each trait. A larger EMA EBV (sq.cm.) means more muscling and generally higher carcase yield relative to carcase weight.
Remember the profit rule in buying bulls on their EBVs. Use the EBVs closest to your production system. Buy the bulls with the best EBVs your budget can stretch to, after you have taken structural soundness into consideration. It is important to relate each bull’s EBVs to the current breed average.
Speckle Park GROUP BREEDPLAN uses all the information on the individual from within the herd plus all performance information from relatives in other GROUP BREEDPLAN herds. The EBVs in all herds relate to a common base. This increases the accuracy of the data, as well as allowing comparison of the genetic merit of the animals from different herds (across herd) within the group.
Each reported trait shows an EBV and its Accuracy level. The EBV (Estimated Breeding Value) provides the best current estimate of the bull’s true genetic merit for that trait, relative to the overall base for the Speckle Park breed. It indicates how his progeny should perform relative to those of other bulls in the breed.
The Accuracy indicates how well an EBV predicts the true genetic worth of an animal. The Accuracy of an EBV will be
higher for traits with a higher heritability and will increase as more performance information on an animal and its relatives becomes available. The Accuracy of an EBV is reported as a percentage. EBVs with high accuracy will change less than EBVs of low Accuracy when more performance records are analysed.
The following guide may be useful for interpreting Accuracy:
▶ Less than 50% Accuracy - the EBVs are preliminary. EBVs in this range will have been calculated based on very little information. These EBVs could change substantially as more direct performance information becomes available on the animal
▶ 50-74% Accuracy - the EBVs are of medium Accuracy. EBVs in this range will usually have been calculated based on the animal’s own performance and some limited pedigree information
▶ 75-90% Accuracy - the EBVs are of medium-high Accuracy. EBVs in this range will usually have been calculated based on the animal’s own performance coupled with the performance for a small number of the animal’s progeny.
▶ More than 90% Accuracy - the EBVs are a high Accuracy estimate of the animal’s true breeding value. It is unlikely that EBVs will change considerably with addition of more progeny data.

We purchased Promise for a then-New Zealand record NZ$35,000 in 2020. His progeny are super docile, with a little extra bone and length of body. He is by a full brother to Premier 101Y Logic L11.
We co-purchased Nikko in 2019, and he is breeding exceptionally well. We have gone on to use him extensively, as you will see in coming years. Nikko is one of the best-moving Speckle Park bulls we have seen.

A well-renowned 2009drop sire, who is a paternal brother to Mainstream Eldorado E11 - both are sired by the great “Baker Bull”. Moonshine produces soft, easy-keeping cattle with good temperaments, and plenty of scrotal.
This catalogue contains the first Loaded Up progeny to be offered for sale in Australia. He topped the 2018 Source Sale in Canada, and produces plenty of muscle and length in his progeny.
Logic contributed significantly to our 2019drop, so with runs on the board at JAD, we selected him to use in a flush to Jackungah Speckle Park’s prized donor, Jackungah Koda K01. Logic is a breed leader for growth + carcase.
A new pedigree for many, Frank is a larger-framed bull, with huge scrotal. He hails from the no-fuss, commercially-focussed Canadian herd of Merl and Lynda Zweifel. Good headed, smooth shouldered.

Leading off our 2023 sale catalogue, Sniper S22 is one of the top carcase bulls in the sale. A pedigree that is stacked with breed legends, going back to the old “Baker Bull” on the sire’s side.

Solomon S31 is one of those bulls that makes you wonder whether you should be selling him at all! He’s got true sire potential written all over himstructurally outstanding, top 10% scrotal, and a reliable pedigree - from one end to the other.
Solomon S31’s dam, Midnight Lady P23, is a never miss cow - her Maungahina Legacy son, Ritualistic R83, sold to WA for $45,000 at last year’s JAD Sale.
We absolutely love how Solomon S31’s sire, Maungahina Nikko, is breeding for us - producing very little waste in his progeny. Nikko’s progeny are very fluentmoving bulls, with loads of middle to them, and in our observation, they are softer carcase cattle than those produced by his sire, Maungahina Legacy. Sherrif S25 has been a stand-out from birth. He is a very easy-keeping, deep-sided bull who catches the eye of all who see him. He is in the top 5% of the breed for all growth traits and carcase too.
Sherrif S25’s dam, JAD 61Y Fancy Free N66, is one of our top donor cows. She is a powerful, large-framed cow with impeccable udder and feet. JAD N66 produced the $34,000 equal top-priced bull at our 2021 Sale, JAD Quaintly Q66, who we have recently begun using in our stud simply because of the predictability of the cow family.
Sherrif S25 is the result of such a great cross - his full sister, JAD S13, is arguably the best heifer of her drop. We have more full siblings born in 2022, and they look equally as impressive.

Skipper S11 is a sight to be seen - he’s as long as a freight train, wide-topped, and an upstanding, free-moving bull. He is in the top 1% of the breed for scrotal size, and a trait leader for gestation length + birthweight. Leptin TT, and puppy dog quiet, too!
Skipper S11 is without doubt one of the top bulls in the draft, with true sire potential. He is very similar to his sire, Minnamurra Montezuma M25, in many ways, with the addition of the very proven Waratah E27 cowline on the bottom side of his pedigree.
Skipper S11’s dam, Waratah Amy P130, is quickly creating a fantastic cow family here for us, together with her full sister, Waratah Amy P127. Here is the natural 2021-drop calf of our top donor, JAD 3X Niome N56, and what a job she has done on him! Sir Jack S53 will mature into a large-framed bull, with a great spread of data across the board.
Sir Jack S53 will appeal to commercial producers seeking to lift performance and carcase traits in their herd, while maintaining good fertility traits. We purchased Sire Jack S53’s sire, Minnamurra Montezuma M25, from the well-respected Minnamurra stud, in 2018, and he is still working in our herd at 6.5 years old. “Monty” is out of the same dam as former Australian record priced sire, Minnamurra Leander L81. Montezuma has been widely used commercially, with results encouraging many commercial producers to continue their journey with the Speckle Park breed. He also has 234 registered progeny to date, in the Speckle Park International herdbook.

Sunday Silence S27 is sure to be the talk of the town! He has been one of Justin’s favourites for some time. Slightly more moderate than his lot 2 brother but so well balanced, and oozes softness.
Sunday Silence S27 scored a 7 out of 8 for structure, by Dick Whale. He is such a well-balanced bull, always pulling up square when we see him in the paddock, with his head up over his spine. Sherlock S115 is an all-Canadian import, courtesy of the Johner Stock Farm herd. We purchased his dam, JSF Miss Sage 62F, in 2019, and this catalogue contains her first progeny born at JAD - this bull and two ET-bred sisters at lots 65 and 66.
Sherlock S115 is a moderate-framed, easy-keeping bull, who features in the top 10% of the breed for EMA, as well as being a trait leader for fertility, growth and other carcase traits.
Sherlock S115’s dam has produced an interesting bull calf for us in Canada, registered as JAD JSF Yellowstone 10K. Oh, the joys of artificial breeding using genetics from around the globe! It’s not all smooth-sailing, with so many links in the chain, and Soldier On S96 is a culprit of human error. He’s as purebred as any papered Speckle Park, but sells unregistered.
Soldier On S96 - and his ET-bred sibling at lot 37 - were caught up in a handling error at a semen collection centre in Canada, and ultimately we have been unable to DNA sire-verify him to the sire we believed we had flushed his dam to. It’s not a perfect world, mistakes happen, and we’ll just ‘soldier on’. But in the meantime we have a a purebred Speckle Park bull here, who has DNA dam-verified to our Canadian donor, Ravenworth Prairie Lily 123G. Sultan S39 is another son of our co-owned New Zealand sire, Maungahina Nikko, who shares his dam with our other NZ import, Maungahina Promise. Sultan S39 is a well-structured, upstanding black bull who is very quiet.

We have produced 28 Line Drive progeny across all seven year drops born at JAD to date. He is a sire that is fast becoming one of the breed’s legends, producing very sound, docile, growthy carcase cattle.

Serendipity S64 is another of the 11 bulls in the sale that Dick Whale scored a 7 out of 8 for structure. Another great Minnamurra Montezuma M25 son, this time out of our WA-bred Kamarah cow.
Serendipity S64’s dam, Kamarah Moya, has left her own mark on our herd, producing the equal top-priced female of our 2020 sale, JAD 52B Moya P30, who was purchased for $20,000 by Toebelle Speckle Park.
From our experience, the Speckle Park breed lacks true performance sires that can shorten gestation and lower birthweight, while delivering adequate growth. Shadowfax S141 is the result of a flush we purchased out of his dam in 2020. Ravenworth Northern Star 120E has an outstanding body type and excellent structure throughout. She has a picture-perfect udder and does a top job on her calves. Shadowfax S141’s sire, Loaded Up, topped the 2018 Source Sale in Canada, and produces plenty of muscle and length in his progeny. Shadowfax S141 is in the top 5% of the breed for scrotal size, and is also a trait leader for all fats. He offers quite a different pedigree than a lot of people would be familiar with. He has two full sisters to be offered later in the catalogue, as lots 67 and 68.
Skyhook S68 is the second JAD P34/Promise bull of four to be offered in the sale. This bull could be described as a keg on legs! Moderate, thick and super soft - a great vealer bull.

The youngest bull in the purebred offering, at just 15 months old, Stampede S147 is an excellent heifer bull prospect to finish off our 2023 purebred bull offering.
Stampede S147 is another great example of what JAD Quistacat Q48 is breeding. We have retained all Quistacat daughters born in 2021. They show so much promise! Stampede S147 is a smooth-made, stylish bull, with his father’s sirey outlook, and fluent movement. This bull carries his sire’s strength in scrotal EBV, and added to this, Stampede S147 is in the top 15% of the breed for birthweight, and top 10% for EMA.
Stampede S147 may be younger but should not be overlooked as the final purebred bull for JAD 2023!

This family is being developed alongside our registered purebred family, and will offer commercial producers an option for their breeding program to select unregistered commercial Speckle Park bulls that are performance-recorded, DNA tested, structurally assessed, and backed by the JAD Guarantee.
This family’s core foundation breeders were meticulously selected from over 400 F1 Speckle Park/Te Mania Angus females, and we have benchmarked this herd directly alongside our registered cattle as they progress towards full-blood (but unregisterable) status. This line has been performance recorded under the “JSP” Herd ID through International Genetic Solutions’ (IGS) multi-breed register, operated by the American Simmental Association. Our data will be published in the Supplementary Handbook prior to sale day.
Ours is the first Speckle Park data to be entered into the IGS system, so in these early years, the data is relevant for withinherd comparison only. As you would be able to appreciate, the newness of Speckle Park in the IGS multi-breed system means we will need to get a few more year-drops in the system before we can start to expect reliable data for across-herd comparison. We have submitted data to the IGS system for all year drops born since 2014 - stud and commercial animals.
DNA profiles will be supplied to IGS for each animal to assist in strengthening the quality of the data output. Our commercial family will be an exciting family for commercial beef producers to follow!
In BREEDPLAN, it is not possible to compare across breeds. We feel the IGS system provides an exciting opportunity for us to see how our animals stack up against other established, well-known breeds. We look forward to following the progress. When we started JAD Speckle Park, we wanted to start with the very best Speckle Park genetics we could source. For us, “the best” had nothing to do with how good a “dolled up” female looked in a photo. We wanted genetic diversity with a focus on longevity. We wanted to build a large scale base from which we could measure, refine, and identify trait leaders. We opted for what is ultimately the expensive route to achieve that goal, and have transferred 2046 embryos since 2016, through extensive embryo transfer (ET) programs. Jackungah Koda K01 is well-known in Speckle Park circles, with a flush out of this popular donor selling at auction for $15,000 in 2021. We flushed Koda K01 to Premier 101Y Logic L11 in 2020, with one of those embryos producing the heifer being offered to you here today.
JAD L11 Koda S104 is a stylish, upstanding heifer who sits in the top 5-10% of the breed for all growth traits, top 15% for carcase weight, top 25% for IMF and top 30% for EMA. We purchased Spots A Roarin S91’s sire, Maungahina Promise, in 2020 for a then-New Zealand record NZ$35,000. He is quickly building a reputation at JAD for producing great carcase cattle, with so much top and softness. They are all VERY docile with attractive outlooks. We are excited to be offering this female, and her full ET sister to follow at lot 66. We purchased their dam, Miss Sage 62F, from Johner Stock Farm in Canada in 2019, and this catalogue contains some of her first progeny born at JAD, with another female being retained in our herd. Miss Sage 62F has produced an interesting bull calf for us in Canada, registered as JAD JSF Yellowstone 10K. We purchased Promise in 2020 for a then-New Zealand record NZ$35,000. Promise’s sire is a full brother to renowned sire, Premier 101Y Logic L11, while his dam also produced our co-owned NZ sire, Maungahina Nikko. Promise has impeccable feet, legs, temperament, and is breeding extra performance. A sire not to miss.
