Instantly Natalia Vodianova was a sensation contracting with Designer Calvin Klein. The Woman On The Run issue delves into our stunning cover star’s private life, her addiction to philanthropy and her children. Her career hit its peak when she contracted a seven-figure deal and was named one of the top paid models, working with various high-end fashion brands. Since then Vodinaova has expanded on her career and founded her own charity, ‘The Naked Heart Foundation’, creating play parks for disabled children and support centres for their families all over Russia. We live in a world today where being mainstream is considerably challenged, people are more creative and unafraid to make daring choices. This issue is compiled of women who we think stand out in the fashion world- that are making a difference. It’s so warming to see women such as Vodianova and Jennifer Lawrence use their profiles to help and give advice to millennials. Finally, we meet Juliette, a successful fashion blogger and reality TV star who features in our fashion memo by seducing the fashion world with her beautifully detailed outfit. This fall fashion trends primarily display a range of colours from daring red on the Halloween catwalk to tweed fabric along with faux fur. reflects that. My first husband was a member of the aristocracy, did not work work but was a walking encyclopaedia. My second partner is a workaholic.” From that she expanded how she too is also a workaholic so they coincide well together as a partnership. Subsequently she encountered her current partner Arnult in 2008 at a Louis Vuitton shoot and despite nothing coming from it, although they met again in 2011 and from two dates instantly were infatuated with one another. Vodianova describes him as extremely caring and hard working. Now having five gorgeous children, Neva, Viktor, Maxim, Lucas and Roman, Vodianova discusses how protective and caring she is over them. Being extremely military with her children’s diets she sees it is compulsory for them to have a balanced diet. “Here’s what I did with my son” she begins the anecdote, “At 10, he was frankly getting a little chubby. 'I said to him, "You cannot sit down with this thing happening to your stomach." From always telling her children they’re beautiful, Vodianova ensures she gives them their nutrients. As well as preaching about healthy eating, she also restricts what she eats. When she was living in France, she ate Pain au chocolat religiously every day now with her daughter they share one every Sunday as a treat. Vodianova was extremely successful by this stage in her life, although wasn’t feeling completely fulfilled. From banking millions, she felt there was more to modelling. After her sister being treated incredibly cruelly back at home in Russia and the Beslan Siege hostage where 186 children sadly died; she knew she had to make a difference to society. The result of this was the charity ‘The Naked Heart Foundation’ which aims to build an inclusive society to children with special needs and disabilities. From raising a vast €39 million, she has built 177 play parks in Russia. From building these support centres for the parents and children she’s given back to the community from reflecting on
her past she understood what needed to be changed for families. "It was driven by a heart. It was just a reaction to a great tragedy at the time… I was questioning why not me. And that's when I really connected with my cause, I went back to my childhood and I said: what was really lacking?". From always having her mother’s love as a child- it was never denied; Vodianova sought fun and play from her childhood. From many children growing in Russia who are going through difficult life experiences, providing play centres helps create escapism for them. From The Naked Heart Foundation become the ‘Fund Fair’, after Vodianova was considering taking her philanthropy to the next level and adding another branch to her charity. She wanted to change the way usual fundraisers occurred and add something to the sit-down meals and auctions that are usually put on. “The idea of creating the Fund Fair came about when I was talking to Karlie Kloss one day and we both realised it was exactly what I was looking for. And since the conversation with Karlie was the catalyst of this idea, I invited her to co-host the World's First Fabulous Fund Fair, which was such a huge success last year that we realised we absolutely had to do it again.” It’s getting late, in the 4 hours we have been talking our drinks and food are finished; the café is ready to close so we depart. She tells me she is heading back to Paris in two days’ time. Before we part ways I ask her how she manages to juggle all the aspects of her life as from todays encounter; I already understand how busy it is with all her current affairs. “You know how people ask, how do you do it? No–don't ask me. I have support, I have my team, I have my assistant, I have my nanny, my housekeeper, but other women have no one to help them other than maybe their husband or children helping each other. My grandmother always had this look of peace, always in charge, really in charge of her life. I always aspired to be like her”. 2022 words
