League of Legends Rune Pages Guide: A Guide To Runes League of Legends: Rune Pages Guide For Champions The following Rune Page Guide aims to help League of Legends players choose AD runes, AP runes, support runes, jungle runes and tank runes. With this guide you will learn the runes to purchase and which runes are most effective on each champion. Runes allow you to customise the champions you play to suit your play style. These runes mostly affect your early game and can be defensive, offensive or utility based. This could be maximising your mana regeneration so you can use your abilities more or focusing on a defensive setup for a weak laning champion. Runes are something that all summoners should use, but deciding on which runes to run on each champion can be daunting for newer players. This guide aims to provide some guidelines regarding rune choices for various champions.

Don't forget that this guide only offers guidelines of the best standard rune pages. The suggested rune pages may not work for your play style or your champion (some champions require specialised rune pages to perform at their best). All the rune pages contain Tier 3 runes.

If you are a new League of Legends player looking for a basic rune overview and help on building your first rune pages, I recommend watching this Rune Page Guide Video. Purchase your own Rune Page bundle from the Riot store and make life a lot easier! Must Have Runes Below are the runes that should be your first purchases for each rune type (Mark, Seal, Glyphs & Quintessences). The runes listed will allow you to make all the standard rune pages you will ever need (All runes are Tier 3 Runes). You can click on each rune type to see the names of each rune within its category (links open in a new window to the League of Legends Wiki). Other Good Rune Choices After you have purchased the "must have" runes listed above, you should consider buying the runes listed below with any spare Influence Points (IP) if you feel they would benefit your playstyle or champions that you play. Attack Damage vs Armor Penetration MarksThe Pros and Cons of Each For AD Runes There is lots of debate and questions regarding the use of Attack Damage or Armor Penetration Marks in for AD runes. The AD rune pages on this page all feature Armor Penetration as I believe they are better for the majority of the readers coming to this page. I strongly recommend reading this mathematical analysis on the matter. The pros and cons are also briefly discussed below, I recommend newer players stick with Armor Penetration but intermediate and advanced players can consider Attack Damage. This rune page is is your standard AD rune page for your AD champions and is run by the majority of players. This rune page uses armor on Seals to reduce the incoming damage from minions and other AD champions (which you will be laning against). It also uses Attack Damage Quintessences to make for easier last-hitting and for better damage output. Attack Damage Marks are also a strong option depending on your preference (see the discussion above to find out the benefits and disadvantages). Stats: -15 Armor Penetration (Marks) -13 Armor (Seals) -24 Magic Resistance @ Level 18 (Glyphs) -7 Attack Damage (Quints) Cost: 10,455 Influence Points (IP)

Pros: -Used by the best League of Legends players -Makes last-hitting minions easy -Armor to reduce minion damage and AD champion damage Cons: -No mana regeneration (must know how to manage your mana) -No starting health (makes you more vulnerable early game) Works Best On: -Ranged AD Champions -When laning with a support champion This page is your best choice when you start to build your rune pages as a number of the runes are usable on other rune pages (such as AP or tanks) saving you some serious IP. If you play AD champions a lot or aren't concerned about spending Influence Points then definitely ignore this page and look at building the second rune book featured on this page (just below this one). Stats: -15 Armor Penetration (Marks) -11 Mana Regeneration @ Level 18 (Seals) -24 Magic Resistance @ Level 18 (Glyphs) -78 Health (Quints) Cost: 13,530 Influence Points (IP) Pros: -Good mix of defence, offence and utility -Works for any AD champion -Contains runes that can be used for other rune pages (saves IP) Cons: -Does not specialise in a particular area

-May not suit your playstyle -Does not have Armor, making you weaker against another AD. Works Best On: -Any Attack Damage (AD) Champion that uses tshirt art mana. -Performs better on ranged Attack Damage (AD) champions. Other AD Champion Rune Options Runes should always be used to assist your playstyle and as such there are a few changes you can make to either of the above suggestions for your AD champion rune page in League of Legends. This AP rune page is your bread and butter caster setup. It gives you abit of everything that you need (penetration, mana regeneration, magic resistance and starting health) and is a solid choice for any AP based champion. Flat Magic Resistance allows you take less damage during the early-mid stages of a game against your AP counterpart. Stats: -8.5 Magic Penetration (Marks) -11 Mana Regeneration @ 18 (Seals) -12 Magic Resistance (Glyphs) -78 Health (Quints) Cost: 13,530 Influence Points (IP) Pros: -Works on any Ability Power (AP) champion. -Provides a bit of everything. -Has runes that can be re-used for many other champion types. Cons: -May not suit your particular playstyle. -Doesn't give you strong early game damage. Works Best On: -Any Ability Power (AP) Champion that uses mana.

This rune page is a more offensive based setup for a caster, maximising your Ability Power. It works best on AP champions that have strong Ability Power ratios and have a strong early-mid game phase. I only recommend using this rune page if you intend to play aggressively and make use of the bonus Ability Power. Stats: -8.5 Magic Penetration (Marks) -11 Mana Regeneration @ 18 (Seals) -28 Ability Power @ 18 (Glyphs) -15 Ability Power (Quintessences) Cost: 12,300 Influence Points (IP) Pros: -Strong early-mid game damage -Allows you to snowball quickly against unaware opponents. Cons: -Does not work well on low AP-scaling champions Works Best On: -Strong early-mid game Ability Power (AP) champions. -Ability Power (AP) champions with good AP scaling on their abilities. Other AP Champion Rune Options Runes should always be used to assist your playstyle and as such there are a few changes you can make to either of the above suggestions for your AP champion rune page in League of Legends. This rune page should be your standard top runes as it works on a variety of champions. If you specialise in playing a particular top lane champion (AD) then consider reading some champion specific guides to find the most optimal top lane setup. Stats: -15 Armor Penetration (Marks) -14 Armor (Seals) -24 Magic Resistance @ Level 18 (Glyphs)

-78 Health (Quints) Cost: 13,530 Influence Points (IP) Pros: -Great durability thanks to Armor, Magic Resistance and Health. -Rune choices save you a lot of IP as they can be used on other pages. Cons: -Needs careful mana management. -Not perfect for all top laners, some will need AD Marks depending on abilities. Works Best On: -AD bruiser top lane champions. This rune page is your standard tank setup, focusing on overall durability. Magic Penetration is taken as tanks all have some damage output and it is generally magic based. You can mix and match certain aspects of this rune page to suit your playstyle or tank champion and these will be outlined below. Stats: -8.5 Magic Penetration (Marks) -14 Armor (Seals) -24 Magic Resistance @ Level 18 (Glyphs) -78 Health (Quints) Cost: 13,530 Influence Points (IP) Pros: -Strong survivability with both armor and magic resistance. -Contains runes that are usable in many other rune pages (saves a lot of IP) Cons: -Lacks mana regeneration.

-May not be perfect for all tank champions. Works Best On: -Most tanks and durable magic damage top laners such as Singed, ChoGath or Rumble. -Tanks not heavily reliant on mana and mana regeneration. Other Tank & Top Champion Rune Options Runes should always be used to assist your playstyle and as such there are a few changes you can make to the above suggestions for your Tank champion rune page in League of Legends. This rune page is a good standard support rune page as it uses a mixture of runes from other rune pages, this is great if you have limited rune pages and is especially great at saving your Influence Points (IP). There are several other support champion options for rune pages which will be shown below as well. I eventually recommend you work towards building up a support rune page with Gold/10 Quints and Armor Marks. Stats: -8.5 Magic Penetration (Marks) -13 Armor (Seals) -24 Magic Resistance @ 18 (Glyphs) -78 Health (Quints) Cost: 13,530 Influence Points (IP) Pros: -Works on any Support champion & uses runes from other pages (good for saving IP) -Provides important stats for support champions Cons: -Not the most effective option -May not suit all support champion needs or your playstyle Works Best On: -Most support champions. Other Support Champion Rune Options

Runes should always be used to assist your playstyle and as such there are a few changes you can make to the above suggestions for your Support champion rune page in League of Legends. This rune page is a great standard jungler rune page (and also doubles as an AD champion rune page, great if you have limited rune pages). It offers a lot of survivability with armor (a must for jungling anyway), some magic resistance and some solid starting health. This will not be 100% optimal for all junglers. For perfect champion based jungle rune pages see Stonewall008's YouTube Channel. Stats: -15 Armor Penetration (Marks) -13 Armor (Seals) -24 Magic Resistance @ Level 18 (Glyphs) -78 Health (Quints) Cost:

13,530 Influence Points (IP) Pros: -Works on any AD jungler -Doubles as a standard AD champion page to save on rune pages. Cons: -Lacks attack speed (boosts jungle speed) -Isn't optimal for every jungler. Works Best On: -Attack Damage Junglers Other Jungle Champion Rune Options Runes should always be used to assist your playstyle and as such there are a few changes you can make to the above suggestions for your Jungle champion rune page in League of Legends. As mentioned previously I highly recommend checking out Stonewall008's YouTube Channel to find the perfect jungle rune page for your champion, this page is intended as a basic guide to runes and not a jungle rune guide, there are too many variations to cover on this page. https://hubpages.com/games-hobbies/league-of-legends-rune-pages-guide
