MONICA ROSE Monica Rose is a Celebrity Fashion Stylist born 1978 in Watsonville California. In 1993 at age 15 Monica got her first retail job at Wet Seal at Capitola mall in Northern California, this was the start of her 10 year retail experience. Monica worked various other jobs than just retail throughout her career but knew at the back of her mind she had a real interest in Fashion, she eventually went back into the retail field to try discover what that specific interest was. When Monica moved to Los Angeles in 2001, she worked at the Beverly Center before transitioning onto the boutique shops on Robertson. Whilst Monica was working on Robertson, she was introduced to key stylists, and learrnt about them and their job, she learnt about merchandising, visuals, styling different body types and everything else needed to know, she studied the stylists ‘like a book’. Observing and learning about the stylists Monica realized this is what she had basically already been doing,
she then created herself a book of all her clients, with their sizes, body types, colour pallets and what her clients liked. Monica created herself a set of business cards and introduced herself to modeling agencies as a stylist who was willing to work for free to build on her portfolio.
2003 is the year that Monica was introduced to photographer Lionel Deluy, he soon hired her once seeing previous work and what Monica was really capable of, she went on to style her first two editorials; a swimsuit one, and a fashion one for Ocean Drive. Lionel gave Monica the chance she needed to prove herself within the industry, he often booked her on to a lot of shoots, so that helped to build her portfolio, by being booked onto the shoots, this helped Monica get representation with an agency. Monica took a step back in 2004 to try master styling that little bit more, she assisted Carol Beadle for the Nelly ft Christina Aguilera music video Tilt Ya Head Back. She took the rest of the year to carry on assisting other photoshoots, or being the stylist. Doing that enabled Monica to build up her connections and the chance to really build on her portfolio. By 2006 Monica had gained the position of key wardrobe stylist for E! Entertainment Television, Daily 10 and E News. Monicas main success in 2006, was gaining the role of Key Wardrobe stylist for Keeping Up With The Kardashians, one of the most popular TV Shows on the E! Entertainment Network. This is where her career really took off, as individually she styled the
Kardashian/Jenners for various other events and modeling reasons. Since becoming Key Wardrobe Stylist for E! Entertainment, Monica has also became the Key Wardrobe Stylist for E!’s Fashion Police.
Other projects Monica completed that year was styling Kim Kardashian for the Carl’s Jr salad commercial. A year later in 2010 Monica worked with photographer Nick Saglimbeni and styled her first Kardashians Christmas Card, this one being the first of many Christmas Cards she would assist and style on. Monica styled various celebrities, and bloggers for many different types of campaigns that year also. Monicas real career then kicked off properly, her pairing with photographer Nick Saglimbeni various times throughout the next few years, on projects and editorials. In 2013 Monica landed her most up to date TV Show styling position with the Kris Jenner Show.
Looking into various interviews that Monica has participated in, she has answered the question about where she finds all of her inspiration various times. As she is a stylist she always needs to be inspired in order for her to be able to create as many looks for clients. She said she finds her inspiration from various places and various different techniques of finding it, Tumblr is her ‘go-to’ for inspiration but she will look into older editorials from the 90’s and likes to dig out all her old magazines from 10 years ago. She says she is always searching the internet looking for new designers to collaborate and work with. Monicas main inspiration who she was inspired by growing up is her mother, as she was very classy and chic, something Monica really looked up to.
has participated in as it is a really simple and aesthetically pleasing, she has paired Kourtney with two very thin white pieces of cloth, one similar to a robe and one resembling a t-shirt.
I really love the simplicity of this particular photograph, JLo the woman featured, has been styled in a really classy and simple way, relating back to Monicas inspiration from her mums classy style. This photograph is one of many styled by Monica. I enjoy how laid back the whole setting of this photograph , it really fits well with what J-Lo has been styled in, a simple white long sleeve bodysuit, the black and white really finishes the whole concept off well. The maternity photoshoot for Kourtney Kardashian that Monica styled is one of my personal favourites that she
Monica has worked with many celebrities, to name a few the Kardashians/Jenners, GiGi Hadid, Chanel Iman, Giuliana Rancic and J-Lo. That is just a few people Monica has collaborated and worked with, she takes part in various editorials for many different magazines. In 2013 she partnered with Lovers & Friends for a winter holiday capsule collection, called Monica Rose for Lovers & Friends. My overall opinion on Monicas work is really positive, I am going to use her for inspiration throughout this assignment and even in my own person dress style, I love the simplicity of her work, her creating something so beautifully unique. As well as her work being simple she has a lot of colour incorporated into it which i enjoy, I get a real Urban feel from various campaigns she has worked on, and from various events that she has styled.
FACE SHAPES Oblong
Round
A oblong face shape, is when the face is elongated and appears less wide than usual. A suitable haircut for this face shape would be something that balances out the shape of the face, such as a medium length cut with a long side fringe, or a thick bob, again with a side parting. A round face is all about the same size all the way around, the cheeks appear to be more chubbier than other face shapes but that can be hidden with certain haircuts and hair styles. A medium length wavy bob, The style elevates the roundness and elevates the cheekbones making the face more slimmer, a style similar to a pixie cut with long layers also works.
Heart
Oval
A heart face shape is possibly one of the most envied face shapes, due down to the sculpture of the cheekbones and facial features. It has got a really chiseled effect. Many haircuts suit this face shape, in particular long layered waves look best in my personal opinion. It also looks best with the hair down, but when the hair has been put off that really shows off the facial features. The oval face shape is similar to the heart, just the facial features such as the jaw bones and cheek bones are less defined, there is a slight chubbiness to the cheeks. The best type of hair cut for this face shape would be a bob style, a wavy bob really accentuates the features that the face shape does have.
Face shape overall plays a really important part of the styling aspect of fashion, just like body shapes do. It is one of the main aspects that a stylist will think about before styling a client. They have to think about how the client will have their hair styled, if they will need to have it cut etc.. It can determine the neckline of the garment also, a certain type of top might not suit that specific clients face and body shape.
As well as face and body shape skin tone is something that a fashion stylist will really have to look in to when they are styling their specific client. They will need to consider which type of clothing and accessories will suit their skin tone best. Certain types of clothing will only suit certain skin tones so the stylist will have a lot of work prepping the client for the shoot in terms of skin colour, face and body shape.
A lot of thought goes in to the actual photoshoot, it can take several weeks to prepare for one.
