CONTENTS
A point acts as a position marker. Lines guide the eyes horizontally and vertically whilst planes appear to slide and collide. Points become lines and then planes, meeting then diverging, casting different shadows.
Rules: Planes= colliding Lines=diverging Assymmetry of planes on the left, lines on the right Lines increase in height and expand into planes
MASSING
In a post apocalyptic world, underground cities become the norm. Retreating to the earth provides shelter and comfort, but also darkness and isolation. A massive spiralling tunnel lit by light tubes connects humankind, down to "The Dome", where people meet and contemplate.
FRAME & INFILL
The definitions of frame and infill are blurred; at some points the frame supports the infill and vice versa. Both are flexible and work together to produce a mobile, expansible structure.
"CLOSED"
"OPEN"
Frame and infill, con't
The semi transparent folded membrane could potentially serve as shelter. A single person can engage the frame to open it up.

CONCEPTACLE: MOVEMENT
Variations on the conceptacle. Movement in the form of a curved path is interrupted but also guided by the disjunctive elements. The planes sticking out serve to block the path and divert movement and the sticks provide point references.
conceptacle no. 1
The spiralling paths mirror the spiralled tunnel in the mass exercise.Â

SECRETS: Something like a Pavilion
MODEL @ 1:50
The originally flat site is made into a series of slopes to mirror the undulating topography of Herring Island. The slanting planes supported by timber elements provide shade and hiding places for children.
The slopes create a more interesting experience moving across the site, and also provide comfortable areas for visitors to sit and do whatever they like.Â
Carved into the existing hill is a small display for a secret object, hidden behind a single plane
Some of the planes and lines from above have extended below to separate the space below in a spontaneous way and provide surfaces for visitors to feel their way around.
Light comes through small slits and illuminates parts of the underground space.

legend: 1. secret display 2. main pavilion 3. stairs to basement 4. internal store 5. technical room
Visitors can place their secret object in the technical room and the image of this object will be projected in the hill, creating a sense of dialogue.
SECTION @ 1:50
The slopes, stairs and basement space are carved out of the soil and rock. The rock is left overhanging to create the feeling of exploring a dark cave and finding its secrets.
“from the cavern carved in the rock to the underground from the underground to stagnant water, we have moved from a constructed to a dreamed world Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space
