PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
Client Profile Tony Riviera is a successful business man and the owner of the cafĂŠ Pr i m o G e l ato. H e g rad ua l l y expanded his store and then launched many restaurants. He continues to open his stores and now he wants to open a new market restaurant in the San Francisco Bay area. The restaurant will be organic and will sell local sustainable products for high quality.
10 Commercial Design
Project Programming This project is very large scale so the client cares about many things, including the concept and elements. For this project, he asked me to design a classic and classy style that should be approachable and affordable. So, the basic interior design will be an open, bright, fresh, clean, cozy atmosphere. Also, he requested many elements for the restaurant and market: a bar, oyster bar, interior materials, and market requirements such as a display and open kitchen and workstation for meats.
This shows that he really cares about cleanliness and fresh ambiance. For the flooring, it will use concrete, which looks like luxurious marble, because marble is too expensive to install for this large area, Subway tile is going to be on the walls and the ceiling will be exposed. All the furniture should be commercial; for example, the restaurant table size will be 36 high. The bathroom has of course A.D.A (American Disabilities Act) toilet and it will be located in the market area. Because of this location, the customers in the restaurant will naturally see the market area and so it is a clever business idea.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Urban Farming Originally, good quality organic food came from the clean and fresh nature. However these days the nature is badly polluted because of industrialization. People have realized the damage they have done to nature and so are using new ideas to grow clean food. I got inspiration from urban farming and it is mixes nature and contemporary city style together. Recently, many people try to do farming in the city to get organic vegetables and I think this is quite good idea in our society. My design will bring a fresh concept for people to farm to concept people with urban farming. I will be kind of a ray of light to create warm and human affection.

BRANDING
16 Commercial Design
This logo reminds of modern, busy city life and an organic, fresh feeling by mixing the city and the leaves. A black background mean dry and heartless of city system, white city silhouette mean busy and modern people, and the green means warm, fresh and active. I combined these three elements in a simple and refined way. I tried to design when customers see this logo they can feel familiarity and trust. The logo as a symbol can represent the personal or the group, and is the main representation of the market.

CAFE
For the cafe area, the main material is a wood and concrete. On the wall, there is wood pattern and it makes this cafe area much more interesting and stronger. Also, on the ceiling, the curving shape of floating ceiling with pendant lighting helps this area look sophisticated. The size of this area is pretty small so the seating area is designed like a bar right in front of the windows.

RESTAURANT
This is the main area between the restaurant and wine and oyster bar. White colored walls and other wood materials make the feeling organic and modern. The concept of this place is urban farming so the overall furniture is modern and simple with added wooden materials and drift wood chairs. Also, in the middle, there are huge trees with gravel so they can definitely be the focal point of the restaurant. It makes the feeling comfortable and fresh.

Soil Therapy The earth and soil are very good resources of everything and it is absolutely necessary thing to live. However, in these days it is hard to touch or walk on the soil road and actually we are familiar with a cement road or an asphalt street. There is very interesting part that harmless soil-dwelling bacteria kill cancer. It turns to elevate mood and decreases anxiety and it possibly treats even cancer and other diseases. It means that contact with soil, through gardening or other method is beneficial. That is why people take the soil therapy to release their stress and make comfortable and get better skin.
