For my book cover design, I chose to concentrate on musical theatre productions, because I am very passionate and interested in musical theatre. I have chosen three novel-based musical pieces, ‘Cats’, ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ and ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, that have been reproduced into great musical pieces by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber is a English composer who has received many awards for his work including Tony Awards, Grammy Awards, Academy Awards, and a Golden Globe Award. For the book cover design, I tried to use simple images that could represent the musical pieces easily and were visually powerful. Cats: On the front cover, I have used cat whiskers next to the title. Also, on the back cover, I have used the silhouette of a cat with the plot written inside it. I used the orange colour because orange often represents the colour of cat skin. Jekyll and Hyde: On the front cover, I have created the silhouette of Dr. Jekyll wearing a fedora, and over coat. I also used red for the title which represents blood from the murders committed by Dr. Jekyll in the story. On the back cover, I have used the image of a beaker to represent Dr. Jekyll as a scientist and the experiments he conducted. Furthermore, the green colour represents the drug that he used in his experiments. The Phantom of the Opera: I have created an image of a mask that connects with the title on the front cover. Also, I have used an image of the phantom’s mask and have outlined the plot on it.
