Balestier Khalsa was founded in 1898, as Fathul Karib Football Club, in the Farrer Park area. It changed its name to Balestier United Recreation Club in 1975 after a reorganisation of its administration. The club changed its name again, to Balestier Central Football Club in 1996 and became one of the founding members of the S.League.

Clementi Khalsa Football Club was founded in 1999 and played at the Clementi Stadium. In 2002, Balestier Central and Clementi Khalsa merged to form Balestier Khalsa Football Club.

The Tigers have the honour of being the first ever club to score in the S.League, as Bosnian striker Esad Sejdic opened the scoring against Police FC (now Home United) at Toa Payoh Stadium. The Tigers eventually lost the tie 1-2.

Hailing from Rouen, France, Vallée began his coaching career as a youth coach at his hometown club FC Rouen in 1988.

He then joined Pacy Vallée-d'Eure Football and was promoted to Assistant Coach in 1998. He later had coaching stints in DR Congo, Qatar SC and AS Beauvais-Oise B before returning to Pacy Vallée-d'Eure in 2007.
•
Vallée was first introduced to Singapore football after being appointed as head coach of newly-formed Étoile FC rd in 2010, where he famously led the team to the S.League title and League Cup, and came in 3 in the Singapore Cup.
•
Returning to France, he led AFC Compiègne to the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France, where he encountered Ligue 1 side and then-defending champions Lille OSC. Despite dragging the tie to extra time, th Compiègne eventually succumbed to a 114 minute Gianni Bruno goal. Current Jaguars Aurélien Hérisson and Sébastien Etiemble were part of the Compiègne first eleven.

The Lille OSC starting lineup for the match featured French internationals Mickaël Landreau, Mathieu Debuchy, Lucas Digne, Dmitri Payet and Belgian international Eden Hazard. Former England international Joe Cole also featured in the same match.

Vallée made a comeback to Singapore football in 2013 with Tanjong Pagar United, and was handed the task of bringing the club back to the upper echelons of Singapore football. In the same season, he led the club to its first top six finish since 2001 and first Singapore Cup Final appearance since 1998.

Suspensions: Ruzaini Zainal is still suspended following his straight red on the opening day of the season, but Nor Azli Yusoff returns to the side after completing his onematch ban.

Former Tigers: Amongst the current Jaguars squad, Hanafi Salleh, Sazali Salleh, Tengku Mushadad, Nor Azli Yusoff have all played for Balestier Khalsa. Tengku is the latest, having transferred to Queenstown directly from Toa Payoh.

Former Jaguars: One notable former Jaguar in the Tigers’ squad is 31-year-old defender Jonathan Xu, who is back in the S.League after a year with Admiralty CSC in the NFL. Although not a player, Tigers’ assistant coach D Tokijan was Vallée’s assistant in 2013.
