The Brazilian National Congress is bicameral and comprises the Senate of Brazil (the Senate) and the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies (Lower House). Since the 1960s, Congress has its headquarters in Brasilia. Like most government buildings in the city, was designed following the style of modern Brazilian architecture. Located to the left hemisphere is the seat of the Senate, and that is to the right is the headquarters of the Chamber of Deputies. These include two office towers. The Congress also occupies other surrounding buildings, some of which are interconnected by a tunnel. Its location as an end point of the axis of the monumental city forced this book to be an icon of the city and therefore the country. Therefore should be able to maintain its even from a distance, as can be seen from distant viewpoints abnormally, not something that happens with most of the buildings located in city centers. The building is full of duality. On the one hand the horizontal line that creates the building session, and since the distance is indistinguishable from the soil of the square, in contrast with the verticality of the two office towers which in turn set the flag, making which is easily reachable from almost anywhere in the city.

Site and Precinct The complex conceived as poles on a north-south axis.The parliament building acts as a focal point in the complex surrounded by green fields, vast plazas and lakes which are prominent recreational spaces in the city.

Located at the nead of the abstract birdshaped city plan.It is the only building within the central green of the monumental axis.

The new parliament sit on a former car park instead of (as previously proposed) on the site of the ruined opera house adjacent. The theatre’s Neoclassical ruins have instead been retained and provided the ‘machine’ framework for an open-air theatre installed within.

Located at the apex of the two visual corridors: The rajpath and the axis connecting the capitol to jama masjid through the CBD.

In the immediate vicinity of the building is the Palace of Holyroodhouse, which is bordered by the broad expanse of Holyrood Park. To the south of the parliamentary complex are the steep slopes of Salisbury Crags and Arthur's Seat. The Holyrood and Dumbiedykes areas, to the west of the site.

Response to surrounding

Due to its size and green roof area, the parliament acts like a hill and thus fits perfectly into the enviroment.

There is no evident relationship between the road pattern and the layout of the buildings.

Costas city plan and niemeyers architecture are literally joined together.The building takes a prominent position in the city layout.

The project was therefore to reinstate the ramparts’ original The cicrcular form acts as a terminal feeling of depth and strength and to for the visual corridor of sansad marg. reinforce the narrowness of the entrance to the city, while opening up views of Republic Street.

The colonaded verandah and a corridor under it are the major means of circulation. There are 6 cores for vertical circulation.

The parliament building is made up of two massive blocks which are connected on different level leading inside the block.
