Education is clearly assumed as a “second nature” of the human being, inherent in our condition, necessary and essential. Children born with the ability to create, are creative and observers, the school can manage this process and promote activities to develop this capacity. The city of Chandigarh is sited in the north of India, in the Punjab region, the foothills of the Himalayas. The city was originally created due to the need of a new capital for Indian Punjab, after the split of the former state. The project seeks to explore the limits between architecture and nature, study the subject of pedagogy and according to this research, propose an architecture in which children understand their belonging first to their own place, the classroom, then to the group of classrooms, and finally to the school as a whole. The open and flexible spaces are definitely more important than the closed and forced into a unique function ones. Delicate manipulation of the spaces such as changes in the height or the entrance of natural light allow the project to have more introverted character spaces. In the same way, slopes, small spaces and countless nooks become perfect scenes that children use very easily. The open outdoor areas are spaces that allow concurrency, walking and staying, the big meeting and private conversation. The course through the nature allows not only an effect of spatial dynamism, but also contains corners, different scales, is a pedestrian street open to nature. The kindergarten has therefore the double challenge of becoming in one hand, a source of learning for children, and in the other hand to become a place of social interaction, a place to reaffirm the cultural identity of those who use it. -Master thesis project finished with honors grade -Selected project for annual exhibition and publication at UPV -Selected project for “Playhouse school” exhibition at UPV

Instead of looking at architecture as an isolated object, a cult, you start to see it as an extension of something that is already there before, because nothing exists in the physical world, unless it is related to something else. Le Corbusier, Chandigarh

mieres town hall
20
The Town Hall is primarily a “common house, a place of encounter and exchange that represents the city and its inhabitants, who come and meet there. The construction of the New Town Hall of Mieres is promoted in order to move part of municipal offices from the current to the future building. Situated on a partially irregular plot because of the presence of the church, it stands between 6-8 storeys residential building and buildings of 3 floor. The town hall must, therefore, reconfigure the current space and enhance the environment generating a quality public space. The project studies the section as a main tool to understand the relationships between the different areas of the program. Adjusted to the limits of the plot, closing the outer perimeter, it creates an inner courtyard around which the daily activities take place. The ground floor is the public square that provides access to the building, clear circulations are enhanced both outside and inside. The intervention of the Town Hall aims to promote some courses or routes directly derived from the morphology of the surrounding environment. -Selected project for annual exhibition and publication at UPV

housing in the city

Explore the concept of living, in this case related to the housing development, is the goal of this project, developed in the Ensanche of Valencia. The question of the place is, therefore, a fundamental aspect in the project, the Ensanche is a pre-existing urban weave, with a long tradition that will influence the attitude of the project and its relationship with the environment. Located between party walls, the plot has double exterior orientation, northeast to the street and southwest to the inner courtyard. The project approach consists of a main block, aligned with the adjacent blocks, seeking to maintain continuity with the existing morphology, and a set of ground floor apartments, located in the inner courtyard of the plot. In order to obtain the maximum amount of natural light inside the houses, besides the spatial interest that brings to the model house, a large longitudinal courtyard is placed in the main block, creating a duality of spaces within the apparent unity of the block.

The project raises the need for creating a set consisting of a tower and a horizontal housing block, with dotacional space (cultural center) in the same workspace. The master plan should adapt to the conditions of the working area, and co-exist with the old existing factory, not only respecting the building, but also using it as part of the project. The use of a housing system aggregation valid either for horizontal building and vertical, will determine the development of the project, obtaining great flexibility in terms of type of housing. The system is based on a modulation grid of three meters width, which allows us to combine a series of moduls, related to necessary spacies for a house, reaching an almost non limit number of possibilities. According to that, the horizontal housing block starts closed to the old factory, crossing the plot and finishing in the housing tower, sitted on a corner of the project. The situation of the blocks on the master plan creates a large green space, which takes place in a lower height in the plot, protecting the activities that take place on it from the city traffic. -Selected project for annual exhibition and publication at UPV

The rehabilitation of the old factory is an important part of the main project Intervention in Valencia. There is no doubt that it takes place in the master plan, however, it is interesting to explore the design of the cultural center as a main project due to the complexity that it definetely has. The project aims to rehabilitate the Marxalenes old factory, nowadays abandoned, and transform it into a new public facility for the city of Valencia. The House of Culture, the Nave and a Youth Hostel is part of the rehabilitation project, which aims to make the old factory a meeting place for the development of leisure activities and active cooperation between young and old people, as well as music representations and other performing arts. -Selected project for annual exhibition and publication at UPV

apple store

The aim of the project is to create a store for the brand Apple in Valencia. This exercise aims to build a store which, attractive for its volume, its supporting structure and its relation to the construction system, reaches a new image for the place. The study of the large number of stores that Apple has all over the world is the first stage to understand how a brand is able to create his own image, not only with the products they sell, but also with the design of the architecture that hosts the sell of the product. This is therefore a point to take into account, the new store in Valencia should have his own image, that makes it relevant between the sourrounding shopping malls. Showing to the exterior by its architecture what happens in the interior with the products. -Selected project for annual exhibition and publication at UPV -Selected project for exhibition and publication at the Art Gallery Edgar Neville of Alfafar - Valencia

During the last decade we have lived a technological revolution without precedents that has changed our conception of almost every area of our lives, from how we communicate to the way we work. In this new scenario, everyday acts like going to the office seem obsolete, even the spaces originally conceived for them. With this proposal we try to promote a prototype of ephemeral architecture contextualized in the not so distant future, flexible, able to be wherever is necessary at the right time or even travel with us, colonizing residual spaces such as former industrial and covered warehouses, and public spaces such as parks and squares, creating meeting spots able to stay if conditions are favorable or relocate if it is not. The project seeks for mobility based on the lightness and versatility of graphene, which can be folded and unfolded almost indefinitely with a minimum weight and exceptional mechanical properties, serving as support to all applications necessary for many activities. An unexpected architecture allows us to move forward in a rational way. -In collaboration with Rafael Alonso and Daniel Infante -1st Public prize - competitions

A new master plan including new and existing facilities shall rectify the urban shortcomings and allow for a more attractive use of the area in the city of Bern (Switzerland), now dominated by extensive traffic infrastructure. Connect the splendid valley of the Aare River with the higher city levels which are now inaccessible is the main point of the project. The concept of The Nest, title of the project, is born due to the necessities of the area and its shortcomings of public space, accessibility, the traffic domination over the neighbourhood and the minimal attention given to the river. In The Nest everybody has been taken into account, especially those who are socially neglected such as disabled people, drug abusers, homeless or people with impaired vision. The intervention over the area has been done considering three levels of planning, from the bigger scale as master plan, to the design of the main building, thinking through the urban planning. -In collaboration with Rafael Alonso, Guzmรกn Cabedo and Daniel Infante -2nd Local prize - Competitions

VERSUS COMPETITION UPV WORKSHOP The project for a school in Burkina Fasso is becoming a real project under development during the period 2014-2016. The first stage consist on a workshop that takes place at the Politechnic University of Valencia. The aim of this workshop is to create a series of project ideas that could be useful for the final project, and also to participate in the Versus competition for sustainable architecture. This is just the first part, the idea that we developed during the workshop, the second stage of the project comes later. The sparse vegetation makes up the organizing element of the urban structure of the villages, which always try to find its shadow. That is why in this place, the architecture should try to build a shadow under which daily activities take place. Rather than a particular answer for a specific place, the project aims to create a system that, thanks to its flexibility, allows for organic growth, as do the villages when they approach the vegetation. Our proposal provides a large shadow as a big tree would do, it is an architecture in which there is no established limits, nevertheless it is this large shadow that will determine the space to inhabit. It is the village itself which decides how to do it, using this cover as protection, under which they carry out its typical architecture with freedom. -In collaboration with Rafael Alonso, Sofía Escribá, Alberto Fernández, María de Miguel and María Sanchez
SCHOOL IN BAASNEERÉ COLLABORATION WITH HAC-90 ARCHITECTURES ALGEMESÍ SOLIDARI NGO After attending the workshop at the UPV, the project, promoted by Algemesí Solidari NGO becomes real, I am then selected by the architecture office and have the chance to collaborate in this rewarding experience. The work allows me to learn from how a project is developed from the first designing phase to the final building stage of the school. Along this period, it is necessary to solve the issues that appear, as well as develop the project from the first idea, just an sketch, to the structure design and construction methods that will be used. The school should then solve the need for a secondary school in Baasneeré, small village in the north of Burkina Fasso where teenagers are forced to move to the capital if they want to continue with their studies. The design of a classroom is the basic module that will create the school, as well as a library, officies, and houses for the teachers. The idea is to divide the project into different phases, in which we could completely build the modules, respecting the weather seasons of the country, where it is not possible to work during the rainning season. -In collaboration with HAC-90 architectures and Algemesi Solidari NGO

The idea is to design a graphic layout which has to show the information about the project. Advanced techniques of graphic design and representation were used in order to create a new infography according to the requirements for the competition. The composition showed here is final presentation for the proejct. Firstly, the location plan of the natural bay which forms the port of Cartagena defines the background of the layout, it helps us to design the composition in order to create a connection route between the rest of the information. The main information explaining the project is placed in the foreground. According to the development of the building, we can see how the graphic illustration follow the diagonal line created by the section that explain the main idea of the project. -In collaboration with Daniel Infante, Agata Klein, Marta Kluk and Enrico Oliviero -Honorable mention

model-ing a school

Architecture models making is not only a way to represent our projects, but also an excelent tool to improve the design development during the project process. These pictures here show the representation for the masther thesis project, School in India, the three different models represent the general shape of the school, the model classroom and the dining volume, and the construction methods and solutions aplied to the architecture respectively. Made of different thickness cardboard, acetate, wood sticks and other specific materials, I try to use a delicate range of colours and materials to represent the architecture through the models. I understand the architecture design not only by plans, but also by models, this is the way in which I work on the project design, trying to link ideas from the plan to the model, observing and learning from the models to apply changes in the plans. Modeling design and building is not only a useful tool for architecture for me, it is also a personal interest and hobby since many years, that is the reason why I put all my energy and dedication while working on a model.

The workshop consist of designing a prototype that can be used as a coffee table in a livingroom. Study and improve the prototype to build it at the carpentry workshop later. The design starts trying to recognize which are the functions that this piece of furniture should allow. Firstly, it can be used as a surface where you can leave your stuff, moreover, the main function of the design is to store useful things inside it and clear the room from small items. The furniture becomes thereby an element that is comfortable because of its height respect to the sofa and a person sits on it. The size of the surface allows to share it for more than one person working on a laptop, drinking a coffee, or just reading a book. The carpentry work begins trying to handle the whole process of the project from the first stage. The model is made of birch-wood, material that gives a nice final texture and is easily workable. Taking measures, cutting the wood, making the lines for the lamelos, gluing and assemlying the joints and adjusting the assembled parts are just the stages that I followed during the process. At the end, it was necessary to check that all the pieces were working correctly before applying the lacquer in the wood surface. The result is a wooden finish furniture protected with a transparent layer of lacquer that gives resistance to the daily use, but keeps the effect of the wood as main material. As in the architecture models, I would say that this work is very related to my personal interest for the carpentry and handwork, it is not only a personal hobby, but also a resource for architectural designs. -Workshop at TU Graz - Austria
