# Homing It’s quite a nice city Bristol, a bit

on Bristol?

of work needs to be done on homing and stuff but that’s about it really. No, it’s good as it is I think. # Awareness So far I’ve seen a lot of

homelessness, I mean I don’t know if you’ve seen that big queue outside that café up there… umm I’m not that aware of things to be honest with you, but that’s one thing that’s very obvious.

# Homelesness I.. I just think the main

problem is the homeless population that people.. ignore or overlook because they’re too embarrassed. There’s people seeing other people without food and it’s quite a challenge for them, and I know there’s issues with illegal substances and alcoholism and although there’s a lot of umm… hostels around but there just isn’t enough, and it’s very hard to raise money and awareness for these sort of issues. Not all main cities have it but Bristol has a particular need. And there’s lots of people working hard for it but it’s an ongoing problem.

# Drug Use I think the main thing with Bristol

would be, sort of in Stokes Croft and St Pauls area, there’s a lot of drug use that goes on there, and especially with the Carnival at St Pauls it gets quite violent so thats the main issue that needs to be sorted out; is just kind of that drug use in that kind of area, it does just make it really unsafe around there. # No Issue Ummm… I dunno I love

it here, I just… I love it when I come here it’s just, there’s loads to see and do and it’s… If you could change something… Umm… absolutely nothing actually, (laughter) I love it. # Drug Use I’m probably one of the people

that drink, so… umm.. I think ti’s pretty good for a city, there is a problem with drugs, but… I don’t know how they’ll ever deal with that, it’s like that in every city so… yeah. It’s just gonna always be the way. # Litter I think people should um… be

collecting dogs poo in paper so it can be composted down.

# Homelesness People seeking

shelter, but for a city of this size there should be more coordination to get them off the street, you know, to rehouse them, with some alternatives. As you get nearer to the bus station you see them quite a lot, yeah… I’m not saying I’m against it obviously there is a purpose, and a reason behind it, but you know, there should be more behind it you know, the council should be more behind it… we need to get them off the street basically. # Jobs Something that, you know,

socially that… Yeah, bad buskers. Dreadful buskers if they could just stop that, learn how to sing or shut up. # Social Issues An issue in bristol? Um…

I don’t know, um… sorry, um… I think they need better mental health services because there’s… there’s not enough. Not this city, but more the outlying villages. I don’t know, I’m pretty happy here.

# Cycling Get rid of the cars, have better

public transport and facilities for cyclist. # Traffic Well there is too many cars

too much traffic and congestion and many drivers are not very respectful. # Parking I think the thing I find most

annoying about bristol is the lack of parking. # Environmental I always say

people in Britain don't do landscaping at all, if you go to the netherlands the air quality is so good, because there are less cars and there are tress every 10 meters. # Social Issues There is nowhere

for them to gather. # Entertainment I think Bristol

needs to be more enjoyable, you know what I mean. Not just festivals but open spaces.

# Social Issues Theres nowhere for

young people to socialise. # Entertainment I think that cites

should be there to be enjoyed and I think its not enjoyable, it is a cool city but it isn’t enjoyable. # Entertainment People don’t want to come

here, to this park, its a nice open park but parents don’t want to come with their kids here because there are teens and other people drinking and taking drugs. It is a shame to have places like that in the city, it is not a place for families to enjoy. # Public Transpot Public transport

is extremely unreliable, you better cycle in this city if you want to get somewhere on time. # Public Transpot Sometimes I have to wake

up 30 minutes earlier to get to work because buses are pretty much always late.

# City Planning Well I work in planning so

I kind of deal with this sort of thing. Um, transport is clearly a problem in the city but a lot of people have probably said that… umm it’s a uh, very prosperous city, so I do think it’s got, it has got social and economic problems, but they’re quite concentrated in certain small parts of the city. But I think if you compare to other major cities it’s not really… if anything it’s suffering because of things like transport because it is too prosperous. So… The city aren’t particularly well planned, so they do tend to generate a lot of traffic, like the north fringe and also parts of south bristol it’s not particularly well planned in terms of coordinating uh land use and transport so thats just exacerbated the transport problem um… as well as the fact it’s a pretty prosperous city so I think uh people keep adding more cars etcetera, and it’s very hard to get them out of cars once they had that freedom, umm… so the public transport could be uh could be improved, there’s a bit of a chicken and egg, do you know what I mean by that?

Uh which one would you do first really because unless you’ve got the customers for the transport it’s not gonna be, uh, viable in the first place, so…. yeah. It’s a difficult one to crack, I think all of those issues in some respects are related to, um, facts that the city is split between different authorities so the Bristol City Council can only control two thirds of the population, because it’s different authorities. You’ve got South Gloucestershire, North Somerset, and North-East Somerset, so different parts of the city fall within those different authorities, um… so I think this is why strategic planning like transport and development is not, is not being as well handled as it might have been, so we could have an elected mayor for Greater Bristol rather than just Bristol City, I think that would work better. # No Issue Anything you think you

should change or… I dunno, I think Bristols a pretty good city, I don’t think there’s much… I don’t know.

# No Issue Ahhh… I don’t

Any issues

really think we’ve got any issues, to be honest with you… Well yes there’s the traffic but there’s not much we can do about that eh.

# Social Issues Hmm… it’s just awful at

the minute, isn’t it… like that man who died in the flats the other day, he didn’t have any electric, he was cooking on a fire in his flat… and I just think it’s outrageous that these people who obviously have mental health issues aren’t being looked after. He could have killed loads of people, not just himself. It’s really sad, there’s a lot of people like that. # Cycling I think I would

improve the cycle infrastructure, because I find it very dangerous when I’m cycling on the road and cars are right next to me.
