Foreword Life’s a Beach is the exploration of youth fashion in a British seaside town. By taking photographs in the off-season, the element of tourism is removed, leaving only the locals to give a true representation. Slide transparencies, which were taken by a lady orginally from the area, are juxtaposed next to carefully considered portraits in order to challenge the viewer to make links between 1950s and 1960s fashion to that of today. The town of Cleethorpes, where this project takes place, sits on the East coast on the mouth of the Humber estuary. The town itself is very understated, however, with arguably the best Fish and Chips in the country, entertainment venues and miles of stretching coast line, those who are from there are very proud of their roots.
