Being an architecture graduate, I want to believe architecture is meant for humanity. In humanity, there shouldn’t be any standards, everyone deserves good architecture. If I were to define good architecture, I would say it has to be functional and empowering to the community. After all, the beauty of architecture comes from providing the community. During my thesis year, my studio topic ‘BAUHUB 2049’ is meant to create a Design learning HUB for students in year 2049, precisely 30 years from now. It has make me started thinking radically for a new principle for architecture, Makoto Architecture.

Makoto (誠) is stand for honesty in Japanese, this principle is inspired by the researches conducted in ‘Made in Tokyo’ by Momoyo Kajima from Atelier Bow-Wow. It is regarding the second-class and Pet architecture in Tokyo that many people overlooked but yet this phenomena has been part of Tokyo’s identity that provided many functional spaces for the community. So when I started creating Makoto Architecture. I wanted it to carry out the honest elements in the architecture of Tokyo, where irregular spaces and functions could still be placed together to form a whole. Despite being a misfit, it is honest with its intention to fit the architecture in the context and function regardless of the size and form it creates. I plan to continue exploring and experimenting this principle during my practice as an Architect, to create architecture like a plug-in device that can reach out and empower the communities. BAUHUB 2049 is aim to create platforms (HUBs) in the year 2049, where It will be the place where future students learn together with emerging communities to improve their living environment. It is named after the practice of Makoto (шка) Architecture, as it studies the

elements that form the identity of the city and re-create it into prototype components of crossed-category plug-in spaces.

Why Shinjuku, Tokyo? Mainly because Tokyo is expected to be strucked directly by earthquake and tsunami in the next 30 years. Makoto architecture practice is a very radical movement as it labels architecture in various forms of components and compile to be into a catalogue. Hence, placing the BAUHUB right in the heart of Japan is also to make a stand as it can be the future of architecture within this context of catastrophe.

FLIP-UP MOV. STATIONARY SIDE-REVOLVE Plan layouts, modular GLiTch 2017 My approach for this task is to use modular plug-in components to create a relocatable factory, on the other hand, it would be easier to reuse it for another function as its after life.

15

suprematism, Kazimir Malevich 1910s

The design was inspired by suprematism artist, Malevich’s work and selected one of his art piece, ‘Construction of colours’ to be de-constructed into pixelations and named it the ‘modular GLiTch’ in reference to arts of digital age.

Modular Components

RED-revolving factory

The factory module is able to revolves to free up spaces on both sides for the ease of loading/unloading items.

YELLOW-static laboratory

The laboratory module is static, serve as an anchor for the other two modules to move around it.

BLUE-flipping farm

The farm module is able to flip on top of another module in order to maximise sunlight gain for the plantations.

19

Modular After-Life

factory > theater ? The revolving module can be use for event orientated spaces, as it can easier transform for different functions.

laboratory > office ?

As for the static module, it remains the most flexible, to be able to converted into any spaces.

farm > park ?

Naturally the farm most possibly to be converted into a park and it can easily be plugged into any urban context.

laboratory > cafe/bar ?

An experimental cafe/bar fitted into a post-warehouse unit reusing mezzanine floor as additional seating areas. It is designed to replicate the 70s bohemian design manner, which maximizes storage in between spaces by placing decorated cupboards, shelves and carpets. Colors are also added into the drawing to further enhance the bohemian atmosphere.

work experience *Due to Private and Confidential reason, detailed drawings and plans will not be included in the portfolio but to be presented during interview upon request.

Robson Service Suite (LPH 2-3) I worked directly under director of the office, designing the new office for the company, design based on the data provided by the land surveyor. It is an mixed-development consists of 3 levels office spaces and 5 levels of service suite for the director’s family and employees seperated with a buffer level of green areas. Located near the heart of Capital in Malaysia.

KPJ Sri Manjung Specialist Centre (LPH 4-7) This is an expansion project for KPJ Sri Manjung Specialist Centre, The new building is located right beside the old building, connected with a bridge at 1st floor. I worked alongside with another assistant architect and under guidance of a project architect to produce construction drawings and the detailed drawings for submissions to different authorities and teams, such as fire safety plans and details, 4-walls detailed elevations, reflected ceiling plans, finishes schedule and etc. Mainly adjusting the construction drawings to comply with the Malaysia Ministry of Health requirements.

KPJ Taiping Medical Centre (LPH 5-7) This is an expansion project for KPJ Taiping Medical Centre, The new building is mainly consists of clinics to be rented to specialist. I worked under guidance of the project architect to update the construction drawings for submissions and produced the detailed drawings for new proposal for the later stage of the building, such as the external utilities rooms plan, link bridge proposal for the old and new buildings. Also finishes details for Interior designer and contractor.

other experiences EPIC Home Build This was a voluntary event organised by non-government organisation, EPIC Home, funded by large corporation, the goal of the event is to help the flood victim at Kelantan, Malaysia to build a new house together with them. Through this event, it had changed my initial thoughts about how architecture should be, I think architecture should really head towards the direction of providing the society. It has also directed my Master thesis topic to focus on future architecture that correspond with the climate change.

42

The builder teams were consists of roofing team, structure team, wall team and flooring team. Each team will worked alongside with some veteran builders. I was assigned to work as part of the wall team.

43

The house was constructed in a Pre-fabrication manner as we construct the panels on site and install them onto the structure system. The duration of the construction took around 3 days to be completed.

Non Architecture Competitions EATING - Alternate design for restaurant

Make every meal a hearty meal - within just a few steps! “Restaurant. Defined as a place where people pay to sit and eat meals that are cooked and served on the premises. We often refer to a restaurant as a place, as a physical location. But what if the restaurant itself is not a stagnant but a moving object, or even more, actually resembling a living creature, which could self-sustain by growing food on its own. Because of that, it serves food fresh! And what if, instead of walking into a restaurant, you can have a walk side by side with the restaurant! Take a journey with Rest-To-Run by hopping on for your next meal, now avail-able within the new city loop. Prefer to stay home? Worry not, it is also able to serve warm food right outside your window. So check out our schedule now! Experience eating like you never have before. Experiencing good taste with every step!

“If there’s going to be another movement, another direction in architecture, it has to engage people differently. Other than saying, here, look at this, isn’t this amazing? It has to interactively involve them other than as spectators … it has to engage them as creators.” — Lebbeus Woods
