Threshold draws upon design methodologies, integrating technology and biophilic design to create an architectural space which has a positive eect on humans. Enhancing the experience of experiencing architecture will cultivate a more rewarding experience of nature and health in our built environment.

Captivating silhouettes of dancers projected onto the architecture from within, creates an enchanting ‘dancing’ building. The outside is a direct reflection of what is within. Two separate entities intertwine in a beautiful unity of calculated structure and creative form. The Ballet Academy stands before us as though it were alive, while maintaining a majestic silence.

Expo ‘67: ReGenesis
Dear 2015,
This is your future. The islands of human preservation.
JAM
The World’s Fair Exposition 2067; project ReGenesis, man without his world. Survival has become possible on the archipelago of Montreal. The world has dissolved into an architecture apocalypse. Built form became an infection, hacked by technology. Sentient machines have scoured the earth of all resources, in the process creating buildings that self replicate and breed using drones and 3-D printers. Technology has become a plague upon this earth. With their shorelines left to despair; St. Helens’ and Notre-Dame Islands have become the only space of natural preservation. It is our utopia within the dystopia: a pavilion for cultural, artistic and scientific protection. The Fuller Dome is the center of an organic network preserving all forms of knowledge and life. A shield of energy prevents technology from invading upon the landscape and humankind is able to rediscover their primitive roots.

I used Skin Peel to make a dress that retained the detailed impression of texture and hair’s on one’s skin. Materiality of remnant facial skin peel and wax allows its use as “fabric”- deceptive touch. This notion is seen in the tunnel intervention design, located in the underground tunnels at Carleton University. The site contained Murray’s Tundra sculpture that I incorporated by molding fabric over its form and then hung it upside down in the tunnel with it open to the above. Deception in touch and sight; hard fabric and reverse gravity. The fabric allowed for light patterns to come through into the tunnel and ultimately create an illusory experience.

Nautilus, Shanghai Community Center was designed using only four lines throughout the entire project; these rules composed the architecture as well as its surrounding landscape design. The Community Center required a library, boat club, cafe, a gym and a soccer ďŹ eld. The design contrives of analytical, concise, yet artistic moves.

Within the forest is a serene yoga center and book store. The design was driven by light and shadow studies which created another realm of reality. The abstract tree branch apertures create intricate shadows within the building which heighten the sensation of being in nature. The intent was to create a peaceful forest feel within the city; a place to rejuvenate.

Harvest
The project is located in the Island of Trindade, in the Southern Atlantic Ocean. It is the eroded top of a big volcanic mountain that is part of an alignment of underwater mountain range. Islands provide metaphors that allow us to give shape to a world that would otherwise be formless. The project aims for a collective intervention on the island and within each site individual buildings. Harvest has an Interpretation center, a train and mountain tram station, as well as a kindergarten to elementary school; it is the building which feeds into the rest of the collective intervention.

ENERGY AND RESOURCES
INTRODUCTION
RESOURCE USE
The map evaluates energy and resources on the Island of Trindade. The map assesses the energy available to harness, and conditions which provide the least amount of impact to the island. The climate of Trindade is primarily a cooling climate due to the proximity location to the equator in the Southern Hemisphere. A shaded site allows for a passive and temperate living environment and reduces the need for a secondary means of cooling for the occupants. Near the ideal site, a sunny or partially sunny area would allow for the growth of crops or vegetation. The ideal site for living and growing is that which supports herbaceous vegetation and has fertile soil. Trindade is composed of a mix of planted, forested, and rocky areas. All of these ground types are suitable for different needs: building, growing vegetation, or providing shade. To minimally impact existing vegetation on the
Resource use on the island must be thought of as a cycle as the energy and resources on them are often finite. What sources of energy on the island may be harvested so they do not deplete the island? Occupants on the island, even when living consciously and sustainably, will inevitably use and produce waste. The average carbon footprint estimated for an occupant on the island is 8 tonnes of CO2 per year. Important questions in consideration of waste, water, and resource management must be considered in search of the ideal site.

Evolution is the transition between the high-rise and lowrise residential buildings. It is the threshold and connection point between two street levels. The skin of the building represents an ever changing transition between cities and building height in a larger neighbourhood scale. The same structure is utilized on the interior of the building which become inhabitable balconies. Commercial units inhabit the podium, while the residential units are in the tower and family units inhabit the sky garden end units.
